Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran in children

zonegran

Avatar n tn Lamictal is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat seizures in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. It is also used to delay mood episodes in adults with bipolar disorder. Do not stop taking this medication without first talking to your doctor, even if you feel better. You may have increased seizures if you stop taking Lamictal suddenly.
Avatar f tn Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I gained about twenty pounds on Trileptal, (a very similar drug), in just a month, and now I am also switching to Zonegran. I'm still in the process of raising my dose, but thrilled that it's working well for your daughter!
Avatar f tn I have also lost 15 pounds in the past 4 weeks I believe it is from the Zonegran causing me to lose my appetite. My neurologist just prescribed my Oxycontin 10mg which make me incredibly sick. He told me that they will only be masking the symptoms but this way I can get some type of relief so I can function. I am in agony and I am tired of suffering. I have been told that I should go to a Migraine Pain Clinic in the Boston area as well.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
Avatar f tn I am 31 year old healthy female. I work part time and have 2 small children. On Sept. 17 of 2012 around mid-morning when I began to have vision problems that included spots in my eyes and almost like a shadow fell over my left eye. I thought perhaps I was going to get a migraine since I had heard people describe them that way. The vision probs lasted about 45 minutes and when it went away a headache set in. It was what I would call a mild to moderate headache. Ever since I have a headache.

1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
Avatar n tn please, if someone knows anything about INFANTILE SPASM or have experienced this in your family. since 2 months ago, my 1 yr old son has these symptoms: his head drops down toward his neck or his sides especially after he wakes up for a few minutes & he is not responsive to people around him. his eyes roll up with no emotions. other than this his development and everything else is normal and ok. after MRI,CT SCAN,EEG a neurologist told us it might be infantile spasm but she still not sure.
Avatar f tn s also been diagnosed with Aspergers, high performing and brilliant in school but what a nightmare to manage. You sound like you live in the US. In the UK, in london, we have a specialist, famous children's hospital. They took my granson in for 1or 2 nights and monitored him with machines 24/7.
Avatar n tn He had a grand mal seizure in the morning while he was sleeping. He had another at the ER in which he would just turn blue and his oxygen would drop. They started him on Tripletal, but after about 4 days he wasn't doing good at all. He had another seizure where he would just lose bladder control and be out of it. We went back to the ER and they went from 100mg of Trileptal to 350mg in one dose. He had a real bad reaction and just started acting crazy.
1303966 tn?1296740010 I will be going to Mayo in a few weeks. Does anyone have any experience with Mayo Clinic? I'm going because my seizure disorder is out of control, but they know I have Chiari and I will be having an updated MRI. I'm on the highest dose Zonegran and an add on seizure medication and the discharges just keep on coming.............. I just lost a friend. She was so beautiful, only 41 with a husband and and three gorgeous children. She had Chiari Malformation 1.
Avatar n tn Also, I have an aura daily of black lines and bursts of white lights. When I wake up in the middle of the night it flashes and is really beginning to irritate me.I do not know who to go see about the aura, I had my eyes checked when the doctors were thought I had MS and I have 20-20 vision and no floaters. I presently see a neurologist who has me on zonegran 2oo mg and flexoril 3 times a day and Diflucan as needed and Maxalt. When the headaches get out of control she puts me on prednisone.
Avatar n tn In some cases, children will outgrow the seizures. Meaning that as they grow bigger, the seizures will become less and less. Now it depends on if your child has just generalized epilepsy or has a rare syndrome of epilepsy. I have 3 children, one of which has a rare syndrome of epilepsy. It may take a while to find to right medication for your child. My child started having seizures at 2 yrs old and is now 7.5 yrs old. He will have this syndrome for the rest of his life.
Avatar f tn no insurance...no medical care. What a nasty circle. I am allergic to the zonegran, blisters in my mouth etc. The others caused severe leg pain, eye pain, anorexia, hairloss, and I suppose i could go on. But you get the picture. Hmmm, might have to find an epilepsy center, and at least have that quality of life discussion with current doc. Last two conversations have been with his physicians assistant, and she is useless to talk to.

1980489 tn?1326255851 The symptoms are the same in adults as in children - but keep in mind that not every adult has every symptom and neither does every child. I had it - and we all present pretty differently even though we are the same? Muscle fatigue means that exercise is pretty much a disaster - and the fatigue is overwhelming.
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar n tn What are her chances of becoming diabetic? Her doctor said hypoglycemia sometimes precedes diabetes in children. Is is possible to "grow out of" hypoglycemia? If so, what are the chances of this happening?
454366 tn?1211245301 Please read the info on www.jonbarron.org on Bi-Polar disorder in children. The info is kinda scary; but I think you might help with finding other avenues to take. Peace be with you and keep the faith. Our kids are our future. Let's not just dope them up because we are told to. Let's not dope ourselves up either.
