Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran for migraines medication

zonegran

Avatar f tn t know that was possible) migraine for the last 3 days which is how long I have been on this medication. I have shaking episodes and not sure how they correlate with migraine but the finger pricking glucose test are fine, A1C is fine and glucose (CBC) numbers are good so I don't think it's a diabetic relation. The shaking is quite concerning as it comes out of nowhere.
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
Avatar n tn As you can see alcohol use is not recommended for use with Zonegran in particular. but is usually not recommended for use with most medications. That is because it can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the medication or cause unwanted side effects. Personally, although I haven't found any literature that indicates that seizures will occur if you use it with Zonegran and Lamictal, I would avoid it completely or minimize its' usage.
Avatar f tn A friend said she took Zonegran for nerve pain and it helped her tremendously. My c ondition now is post herpetic neuraglia left over from shingles in the top of my head, forehead, eyebrow and left eye. have anyone tried Zonegran for post herpetic nueraglia (PHN) and did it help. The Lyrica is now affecting my eyes so I am desperate to get off it. Any answers/experiences are much appreciated. Thanks much.
Avatar f tn Zonegran is awesome! It really has worked great for my daugther with little to no side effects. Initially, there was some problems with being a little sleepy during the morning, but that wore off. It also did cause some appetite suppression in the morning, but that wore off too. I hope you find the right dosage and it works well for you too. Were you able to lose the weight you gained off of the Trileptal?
Avatar f tn I am 23 and have been suffering from intense migraines for about 12 years. Seizuresfor about 3 years, but this isn't about the seizures.
Avatar n tn Nine years ago the migraines began getting out of control and for the past 3 years have caused my health and way of life to severely decline. I need someone to tell me if the white matter lesions on my brain (not MS) are a sign of an upcoming stroke. Also, I have an aura daily of black lines and bursts of white lights. When I wake up in the middle of the night it flashes and is really beginning to irritate me.
1303966 tn?1296740010 t have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
492869 tn?1285018933 Mestinon, Metoprolol, Prozac, Theo-Dur, Concerta, and an anti-epileptic that I forget the name of for migraines. My medication changes a lot though.
Avatar f tn He is now able to start learning, and he came off of all medication except for 75 mg of zonegran. He was on 1400mg a day. It has made a huge difference. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn needless to say, he was fired and I went elsewhere. I went to a comprehensive epilepsy center and they found a medication that works really well for me and I have minimal side-effects. I've been on Topamax for 7 years and it's more effective than any other medication or combination or medications I've been on. I know it's really a drag and it truly *****. I take a lot of medication...I have epilepsy, schizophrenia/depression and allergies/asthma.
1303966 tn?1296740010 But if your epilepsy is something new and you need a little advice here a little. If you are still having issues ask for another medication to be added on to the one that you are taking. See maybe if you are a canidate for the Keto diet (which is almost exactly like the atkins diet) if you arent feeling comfortable or your not getting the results that you feel you should be getting then see an epileptologist. Those guys are specialists when it comes to Epilepsy and the different treatments.
Avatar n tn I take Propanolol 240 ER for my migraines, but they are regular ones.
Avatar f tn I used to just have visual disturbances (auras) right before migraines. For the past 3 months I have had to wear sunglasses almost constantly because I am very photophobic even without a headache. And for 3 months I have had all kinds of visual disturbances. They are happening all the time even in the absence of a headache/migraine. The opthamologist doesn't think that they are floaters. He doesn't know what to think. They are all different kinds of colors and shapes.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have experience with using Topomax for Migraines. I have had migraines for the last 3 years and have been rx Topomax. I tried it for a week and felt fatigued, more and worse migraines, spacey so I discontinued it. Tried again and after a few days landed in ER with vertigo. Dr. believes we should try again that it will be helpful after titering upwards. Wondering who has experience with side effects, what they were and if they waited it out did they get better or worse.
709686 tn?1277432159 Topomax for migraines has been used with much sucess with opiate wds. Also a continued ise of Topomax has shown some good results in stopping the cravings in aftercare.
Avatar f tn I have fibromyalgia and migraines so I stay in constant pain. I have recently started to have paralizes in my arms and legs. I mean completely to the point I can"t move my leg and it will stay that way for as long as an hr. I didn't get to see my Dr. this month I saw a CNP that works in his office and she said I need to see a counselor. What is that going to do for my paralizies?
1125820 tn?1265284446 Ok I'm 25 years old. I have been suffering Migraines for almost 15 years . Maybe its me But .. Does any medications work .. I have been on almost everything..
1435895 tn?1304291241 Headaches seem to always be labled migraines when docs are unsure of why u have them. I am wondering if posibly another diaretic such as lasix may help some. It has a diff target effect than diamox does not real sure though. We use pamelor a lot with the hospice patients for nerve pain and it works well. Tricyclic antidepresants are crap for depression but work really well for nerve pain that is chronic. They often prescribe that as a topical med.
Avatar n tn Beta Blockers are one class of migraine medication. I currently take a Beta Blocker for my migraines as well, called Nadolol, which is different than Inderal. A different Beta Blocker may provide the same relief that the Inderal used to provide you. The other two classes of daily preventative medications are antidepressants and anticonvulsants. It would be worth trying the class of medication that you have yet to try.
1389553 tn?1280782127 You could also want to consider a combination of medications, since combination treatment is usually more effective for treating migraines than any single medication alone. Only combine medications if a doctor has prescribed them to you in that way, and always ask a pharmacist prior to purchasing and combining medications. The antiemetic Metoclopramide is a useful medication for those with migraines.
Avatar f tn Anybody else having horrible migraines?!! They are awful. I'm on medication for them but it doesn't seem to be helping.
Avatar f tn Never mind I know what it is its fioricet (spelling?) I used to take that for my headaches but it wasn't effective. Have you tried a preventative medication like Topamax? Might be worth asking your Doctor about. I have that many headaches to. I feel your pain. Hang in there.
Avatar n tn I'm thirteen, and my headaches have been going on for two weeks now. They started a few days after my period, which followed a virus I caught. Oddly, my period lasted for two weeks, probably as it was late by two weeks(I suspect this was because I was under a lot of stress/anxiety over that month...). The first week was brown discharge, and the second was normal, and a LOT of blood was lost.
Avatar m tn ) sorry bit of a rant here, but a lot of doctors are unwilling to give proper pain medication for fear of addiction and that's just plain old BS. If your living you life daily in pain what's the point of living. If it becomes an addiction problem deal with it once the pain problem is solved. It's been a 25 year battle for me, so I can get a bit angry on the subject of pain management. Anyways try that 3 shot combo, works like a charm. For me anyways.
