Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran and bipolar

zonegran

Avatar n tn Hello, I very much need an answer because my doctor will not give me a straight answer. I'm currently on Lamictal (800mg a day) and Zonegran (200mg a day) and I'm a college student so I tend to drink. I've never had a seizure while consuming alcohol but I'm terrified when doing so. So heres my question... When I drink (beer) with my meds, will it bring on a seizure? or just enhance the side effects? Please I very much need to know asap! Maybe even stories would helpl too.
Avatar f tn Hello!!! I was wondering what anyones experience was on Zonegran. I have tried Topamax previously but couldn't withstand anything over 1/4 of a 25 mg pill....thats right 6.25. Went to new NL and he rx Zonegran @ 25mg. I feel like a walking Zombie and have had a worsening (didn't know that was possible) migraine for the last 3 days which is how long I have been on this medication.
Avatar f tn Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I gained about twenty pounds on Trileptal, (a very similar drug), in just a month, and now I am also switching to Zonegran. I'm still in the process of raising my dose, but thrilled that it's working well for your daughter!
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
1303966 tn?1296740010 She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
Avatar f tn t go to sleep when I am tired, I feel like there is always a motor running, and it is hard to get rest. I am wound like a rubber band. I am on 7 medications, and I would think by now, that I would be receiving some benefit. I was stopped by the police about 1.5 months ago for weaving on the highway. I have since managed to get a little more sleep. I have such a bad work schedule, it is hard to get any routine down, because then everything changes. Any suggestions?
802234 tn?1237830136 ) My doc and I have to get Zonegran out of my regimen (cognitive confusion, dangerously and abnormally thin) any thoughts on the puffiness?
1303966 tn?1296740010 Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.
Avatar n tn I do not know who to go see about the aura, I had my eyes checked when the doctors were thought I had MS and I have 20-20 vision and no floaters. I presently see a neurologist who has me on zonegran 2oo mg and flexoril 3 times a day and Diflucan as needed and Maxalt. When the headaches get out of control she puts me on prednisone. I also see a physical therapist at her office weekly for the headaches. I have had trigger point injections ( did not help).
1303966 tn?1296740010 I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. I feel so much better these days.
Avatar f tn I am 31 year old healthy female. I work part time and have 2 small children. On Sept. 17 of 2012 around mid-morning when I began to have vision problems that included spots in my eyes and almost like a shadow fell over my left eye. I thought perhaps I was going to get a migraine since I had heard people describe them that way. The vision probs lasted about 45 minutes and when it went away a headache set in. It was what I would call a mild to moderate headache. Ever since I have a headache.
Avatar f tn I read that Its 50/50. Depends though, I know ppl that are bipolar and have three kids, one has mood disorder. I'm bipolar, so is my husband and were having a baby in Nov. So I'm curious to see how this will work out. Either way what better people to help a child or someone deal with it then someone who actually has it themselves.

1554665 tn?1294354952 s self medicating. All I know is I have Bipolar and smoke. I certainly would like to be bipolar and quit for good.
574118 tn?1305135284 s my understanding that if you are inspired to go manic you are bipolar no matter what the gasoline was. I was diagnosed ADD and seriously depressed untill a heavy dose of Effexor made feel floaty and fun! First time I ever felt that way but still it meant I was bipolar. I don't know if this helps. One thing to remember is ADHD is consistant but bipolar is not.
Avatar f tn He is now able to start learning, and he came off of all medication except for 75 mg of zonegran. He was on 1400mg a day. It has made a huge difference. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn There is a genetic component to bipolar, so your child is more likely than the general population to get it, but it is by no means guaranteed. If both sides of the family are full of severe mental illness, then it's even more likely, but the incidence of bipolar in the population is low enough that even a significant increase in chance is still a pretty low chance.
Avatar n tn Emotions come and go in bipolar at a regular frequency. As a person with the bipolar aspect of schizoaffective disorder things didn't stabilize for me until recently I got on a medication that they are realizing is working as a mood stabilizer in its secondary capacity. The family member with cyclothymia who has just started medication until then turned every minor issue into a crisis and was having repeat agitated mixed states.
13415927 tn?1430701518 Have you been diagnosed as bipolar? If so, true bipolar, of the many varieties of depression now called bipolar but which are not psychosis?

1075109 tn?1281835691 I already take one as a mood stabiliser and I have ensured that the 2 do not clash but as it stands now Fibromyalgia causes depression and sleep problems which kicks my Bipolar into high gear and causes Anxiety which in turn agravates the Fibromyalgia. Vicious Circle. Thank you for your reply but it was definately in the wrong direction. Sue.
574118 tn?1305135284 Thank you very much for your clarification you and shortcircuited. You said however that your husband felt manic using AD yet he isn't bipolar. This issue I want to settle once and for all. They say that "normal people" under AD don't get mania. So if you get it it means you have been all along bipolar and AD uncovered it but it didn't turn you into one. Now what you say is that one can turn manic under AD without being bipolar.
Avatar f tn Well there are three types of bipolar - BP1, BP2 and Cyclothymia which is the mildest form - and inside each of those classifications you have different behaviors and degrees of seriousness. What treatment you need depends on the symptoms you have.
Avatar n tn Does your Dad have a diagnosis of bipolar? There are many reasons why some one will lie, but are you a 100% sure he is not telling the truth? because saying you have been abused when you haven't is a huge lie and i am not sure, other than to get attention why someone would say it.
Avatar n tn Maybe its a test to see if he has bipolar. because if he reacts badly to the prednisone and goes into mania, depression, etc. then he is bipolar. Bad way to go about it though.
Avatar f tn My son was diagnosed with ADD and Bipolar at the age of 4. He is now 8 and was diagnosed with ODD on top of ADD and Bipolar. Is there a book on parenting that can help me deal with him??
6726276 tn?1421126668 It helps channel the ADHD and avoid BPD and/or psychosis. For me, it is all bipolar, treatment is the same for me, no matter what I call each mood.
