I have been taking Zomig 2.5mg which is a serotonin agonist. Naproxen is given for migraine patients because it works synergistically with serotonin agonists as it also increases the activity of serotonin in the synapse. However, I would love to have some effective pain medication so that I don't take Zomig everyday! My neurologist advised me to take the Zomig as soon as I feel a headache coming on so that it doesn't snowball into a severe migraine...
Probably the 5mg Zomig Nasal Spray which works in 10 minutes or the 5mg Zomig-ZMT which works in 30 minutes would be best for SS.
So... it really depends on how long your SS lasts for. If it lasts for more than half an hour usually, a quick dissolve tablet might be an option for you. Otherwise, if it lasts half an hour or less, then a nasal spray triptan looks like your best option for treatment.
In case your SS DOES last for more than half an hour usually...
I take Zomig (I get migraines about 3-5 times a year) and Zomig knocks it out. Ironically, Norco used to give me headaches and then unfortunately, I became accustomed to them and addicted to them...... Now I am on day 14 with no opiates and I am still not quite well, but better each day. I won't be touching those demonic yellow pills anymore. Fortunately, my pain level is manageable as well. Opiates cause rebound pain the same way rebound headaches work.

d suggest trying another triptan. There are lots on the market. I use zomig nasal spray, it works fairly well... not 100%, but, it can stop a lot of my migraines. If zomig doesn't work for you, there are still tons of other triptans on the market.. maxalt... and try different types of delivery methods too. Are you taking tablets. Tablets do NOT work very well AT ALL. Try a triptan in a nasal spray.
Remeron it quite different, it goes to the receptor and sort of just sits beside it or on it, depending on how you want to think about it. Receptors wait around to be given orders. So, the Remeron hangs out next to the serotonin receptors and blocks the regular orders from getting through (or doesn't allow as many of the orders to get through). So, you can think of SSRIs working like a sponge and Remeron working like a shield.
2 weeks ago I got a really bad headache after football but took a zomig tablet and managed to sleep it off. Last week though after football I was feeling my head starting to hurt. I took a zomig tablet as soon as I got home but after about 30 to 45 mins later the pain became unbearable and probably had the worst headache or one of the worst headache/migraine ever. The pain was at the top of my head and it was like a burning and stinging feeling.
s not handy, 4-5 200mg ibuprofen. The Zomig is an oral disintegrating tablet, and works in less than 5 minutes. It does leave you feeling a tad spaced out, but I'll take that any day of the week compared to a frenzied/panicked trip to the ER (and the $2k subsequent bill). Xanax should also work, but you should can't take too much of it.
Symptoms quickly come and go except for vision, coldness, nausea and burning, which are constant. Zomig tasted so bad as it eventually dripped my neck that I hacked a few times and a little blood came up.
I have asthma, adhd, insommnia and depression. Two months ago I experienced an overdose on excedrin, clonidine and benadryl and recovered. At the time, I was informed of a potential heart murmur. Lymph nodes have been tender and large for years but one has become hard in the last month.

I will talk more about this in a little bit to answer your question about what it does and how it works... but I have to get into what happens during a migraine so it's a bit of a long answer so first I'll answer a few more of your other questions...
I get migraines as well and although I do not take imitrex, I to take a triptan, which is what imitrex is. The triptan that I take is called zomig, and I take a nasal spray version.
I will have to go back and see if I can find that one. It was really interesting. Seems to be all upside down in the way it works as to the way you would think it did. I alwasys thought when stocks were way up, it was a good thing. I will have to see if I can find it or the link to it so ya all can have a look see.
Hi!!! I posted a question asking if zomig knocked other people out.... or if anyone found any sort of knock-out side-effects with triptans...
I totally feel out of it after I take my triptans... it takes the pain away... but I am out of it... tired... fatigued... and even confused sometimes for hours after the migraine... sometimes for the rest of the day!!!
