Zomig compared to imitrex

Common Questions and Answers about Zomig compared to imitrex

zomig

1125820 tn?1265284446 Statistically, compared to the other triptans, Imitrex Injection, Zomig Nasal Spray and Maxalt-MLTs have the highest success rates for total pain relief in the shortest amount of time. Although, everyone is different and all of the triptans on the market have been proven effective in clinical trials, so which one is best for you is really a personal choice that should be made by you and your doctor.
768044 tn?1294223436 I do have other medications as part of my acute treatment plan to either help the zomig or to use if the zomig fails, such as naproxen, metoclopramide and strong pain killers... although, the majority of the time, the most I'll have to take on top of the zomig is just the naproxen. I will often take the naproxen at the same time as the zomig just to be sure that I've really knocked the headache out entirely.

768044 tn?1294223436 Anyway, I told him about the very severe migraines I sometimes get that are much more severe then the normal severe migraines, and how even if I take one or two of everything I have to treat migraines (zomig + naproxen + metoclopramide + gravol + hydromorphone + non-pharmaceutical treatments) that nothing works to even touch the pain and I needed something to treat these unusually (well, unusually for me) severe migraines because I was scared of what I might do to get out of pain if I was alone
Avatar m tn t want to have to give yourself an injection! and zomig nasal spray works great!! try zomig nasal spray or imitrex nasal spray first before injections... injections can cause skin irritation and stuff, it should be a last resort!
Avatar f tn Imitrex is known to cause dizziness, confusion, hallucinations, and problems with vision, speech and balance. http://www.drugs.com/imitrex.html I would suggest you to discuss this with your prescribing doctor if it is getting difficult to cope with this side effect. There are other triptans available which you can try like Rizatriptan. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Could be migraines. Does it throb right behind your left eye??? I've had migraines for years (comes with having 4 kids I think-ha); the only meds that help relieve most of the pain are Zomig (really expensive, but no generic version yet) and Meloxicam (generic for Mobic) - both pills taken together usually decrease pain within an hour or two. Hope this helps. My doc also suggested Imitrex when I can't afford the Zomig anymore.
306455 tn?1288862071 My insurance use to only let me get limited supplies of imitrex because of the price, but now with the generic , it is so much cheaper.... thanks for the info!!
Avatar f tn examples are maxalt-MLT, zomig-ZMT, zomig nasal spray, imitrex or imitrex nasal spray. But, only your doctor can prescribe these or say if they are actually appropriate for you and your headache (not everyone can take them).
Avatar f tn I take Zomig (I get migraines about 3-5 times a year) and Zomig knocks it out. Ironically, Norco used to give me headaches and then unfortunately, I became accustomed to them and addicted to them...... Now I am on day 14 with no opiates and I am still not quite well, but better each day. I won't be touching those demonic yellow pills anymore. Fortunately, my pain level is manageable as well. Opiates cause rebound pain the same way rebound headaches work. I wish you the best.
341655 tn?1240368839 However an injection will provide quick relief from migraine pain as it reaches faster into the blood stream as compared to pills. Imitrex injection provides relief in about 10 minutes. Injections are usually prescribed in people who want quick relief from rapid onset migraine or suffer from morning migraines. Hope this answers your question.
Avatar m tn Talk to your doctor about antimigraine medications such as Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc., that are meant to acute migraine attacks. Until you see your doctor, you have over the counter options such as aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, or Excedrin.
570440 tn?1216940745 They are so intense I hate to even lift my head up.I have tried zomig and imitrex both to no avail. They come on during the day as well. The last one made my left arm very sore and the veins running up the back of both sides of my neck hurt as bad as my head did.Is there anything I should be doing to help these?
Avatar f tn I use imitrex and that seems to help get rid of them sometimes. I have been to Mayos Clinic, allergy clinics, had a hysterectomy, and to a Univ. Hospital. I am at the end of the line. I am getting 2 to 3 a week. The last drug I tried, Verampamil, is what the Mayos Dr. suggested. I did find out I had sleep apnea so now I don't wake up with a migraine. I'm getting older and I'm getting tired of the pain. What else is there to try?
Avatar m tn The most effective triptans are the quick-absorbing triptans, such as Zomig Nasal Spray, Maxalt-MLTs, or Imitrex Injection. Imitrex Injection is rarely used since it is an injection, but Zomig Nasap Spray or Maxalt-MLTs are simple to take and usually work for most people. Sometimes people use a medication called Naproxen in combination with their triptans, and that works very well.
Avatar n tn A Triptan drug (Imitrex, Zomig) is about the only thing that works and yes, they are very expensive. I just paid $225.00 for 9 pills yesterday. I get the 100mg. so that I can cut them in half and make eighteen 15 mg. pills. If I am wise and take one as soon as I feel one coming on, I can stop it with one half of the pill. Sometimes it doesn't work and I have to take the other half. That's just one way of stretching them.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much. I tried calling a neuro, but I need a doctor's referal to go to one. The doctor I've been to just listened to me for about 5 minutes and gave me imitrex...and only 6 of them. I'm not sure if he will let me go to a neurologist or not, I have to go back and see him in two weeks, but thanks so much for your response, you're the first that ididn't actually tell me there wasn't anything to treat it.
Avatar f tn I always have a visual aura and then I lose vision in my left eye. I have tried imitrex, zomig and I am currently on topomax. June 2006 I had sudden left sided weakness. my arm and leg. I felt rather confused a little disoriented, but that didn't last long. the weakness has persisted. I have had about six MRI done. Mostly normal I have a small Arnold-Chiari variant. I work full time at the local hospital. I work closely with many doctors, they all can't give ma any definite answers.
Avatar n tn t get imitrex tablets, get the imitrex or generic nasal spray or imitrex or generic injection OR treximex tablets but NOT imitrex tablets. - Zolmitriptan. brand name Zomig. this is what i use. (although i have used all of them at some point) don't get the tablets... like imitrex, the tablets don't work. But, the nasal spray DOES work incredibly well and this is what is usually prescribed anyway. - Almotriptan. brand name Axert. a very powerful triptan tablet.

Avatar f tn ve taken all kinds of different medications (imitrex, zomig, etc.), but once my Dr. finally put me on Relpax (40mg) it started to help. However, I have to take the Relpax with two excedrine migrane capsules at the onset of the aura or I am down for the next few days. It also generally helps if I sleep. Hope this helps!
