zofran

Avatar f tn I am going to print this page out! We are familiar with the Zofran (4mg aprox 6$ a pill !! ) and buying them 6 at a time due to the cost, and figure this- the compazine seemed to work a little better than the zofran! compazine was $11 for 100 pills! anyways, she was also on reglan. We are taking it one day at a time, Hopefully today we will learn more about when they will be draining or "tapping" the ascites. Hopefully that should releive some of the discomforts.
1201433 tn?1328997637 It is a serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist used mainly as an antiemetic (to treat nausea and vomiting), often following chemotherapy. Its effects are thought to be on both peripheral and central nerves. Ondansetron reduces the activity of the vagus nerve, which deactivates the vomiting center in the medulla oblongata, and also blocks serotonin receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone.
1201433 tn?1328997637 Ondansetron is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Ondansetron is used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting that can be caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment for cancer, or by surgery. Vomiting is controlled by an area of the brain called the vomiting centre. The vomiting centre is responsible for causing feelings of sickness (nausea) and for the vomiting reflex.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Zofran for severe nausea I experienced during radiation and chemotherapy (5-FU, oxiliplatin and Xeloda.) It was not particularly helpful for me. The prescription was for 30 pills and cost $1200 USD. I do not recall the dose. Because the Zofran did not help, I took it only for a short time, maybe 10-14 days. I did not experience any side effects specifically from the Zofran, or any benefits either. Hope this info is helpful.
Avatar f tn My vote is for Zofran (8mg). I had substantial nausea and vomiting. In addition to the Zofran, I also have the patch behind the ear. Unfortunately for me, the Zofran kept me from vomiting, but it didn't take the constant nausea away, hence two medications.
Avatar f tn Hey I've been having stomach problems since I was a kid. I'm 25 now and still experience problems daily. My doctor prescribes me zofran which helps with nausea and helps to prevent vomiting. It's used in chemotherapy patients and works with our situation. I have ibs too. It helps quickly and works well. Some says are better than others.
Avatar f tn Zofran is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist approved by the FDA for preventing nausea and vomiting related to cancer chemotherapy and surgery. It has been used off-label to treat nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. Based on recent studies regarding the association between Zofran use in early pregnancy and congenital cardiac malformations and oral clefts (cleft lip and palate), the FDA has cautioned against its use in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I also have phenergan but I can only take it at night because it puts me right to sleep. Now I have Zofran which I took last night and it did basically nothing for my nausea and I ended up getting a bad stomach ache afterwards! Not good. I have valium which I like to take when I feel the anxiety rise and nausea isn't too bad. I only take 2.5mg and that usually gets me by for many hours. Have any of you tried any of those anti nausea drugs and which ones did you like?
Avatar f tn I've been on it my whole pregnancy. And baby is fine. I had to take it I tried everything first and nothing worked. I lost 15 pounds and it would've kept going down. I was puking 6x a day. So it was either zofran or starve. Thank goodness for zofran in my case. Also all medication has risk. Even benadryl which is called safe during pregnancy is rumored to cause cleft lip. I've taken it to. A lot of people have. Its pick and choose in this world when It comes to things like this.
789911 tn?1368636783 WASHINGTON -- A drug used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy may trigger dangerous and possibly lethal changes in heart rhythms, the FDA warned Thursday. The drug, ondansetron (Zofran), may increase the risk of "developing prolongation of the QT interval of the electrocardiogram, which can lead to an abnormal and potentially fatal heart rhythm, including Torsade de Pointes," the FDA said.
765439 tn?1292960414 It is very commonly used WITH patients who are getting chemotherapy becuase the chemotherapy makes them nauseous and zofran helps with the nausea. Zofran is for the most part safe and side-effect free and it usually works very well for nausea. I don't know what your doctor is trying to look at with the CT scan/MRI and it depends which organ you are looking at as to which will be better to see things.
8564878 tn?1405305244 For my first pregnancy and this one I have taken a small pill that disintegrates in your mouth and is and has been a huge help to me. It's name is ondansatron or something like that, though I think that's its generic name. It was actually designed to help people after going through chemotherapy to not throw up but it's safe for pregnancies too. If you don't have insurance though, it can be quite pricey. Good luck. Pregnancy sickness is the worst!
Avatar n tn She can tolerate Reglan and is on that 4 times a day and has been prescribed Zofran, which helps some. However, her insurance company will only pay for 12 Zofran (generic) per month and she needs to take 4 a day! She has been off work for two months and they've given her an unpaid leave for two more months but she loses her job if she can't go back to a 40 hour work week by Oct. 1st. She is single and dependent on herself for livelihood.
Avatar f tn I have undergone one chemotherapy tx. of Taxotere and Cytoxan. I was very sick.. nausea, severe fatigue, headache, bone pain, light headed, constipation. I am better now. I did change the anti-emetics to Zofran which helped. Now I am considering only following with radiation to chest wall and an aromatase inhibitor. My tumor was 2.1cm, node neg. Her2/neu neg, ER pos. Oncotype score of 22. stage II invasive ductal with mastectomy. No lymphatic invasion. Age, 55 post menopausal.
Avatar f tn During my carbo/taxotere treatments I got Zofran and decadron IV, more decadron and Emend in pill form for three days, and Zofran in pill form for as long as I needed it. I still suffered lots and lots of nausea. Now during my carbo/gemzar treatments I get Aloxi and decadron IV, take Zofran (8 mg) and Promethazine (Phenergan) for four days after each tx. This combo seems to work for me.

585414 tn?1288941302 ll explain (from my knowledge as a consumer) what that information I cut and pasted means. Zofran is FDA approved for use in nausea from chemotherapy. All other uses are experimental. The 5-HT3 receptors are one group of neurotransmitters they are studying that may work as part of schizophrenia. There are other receptors and treatment modalities they are studying as adjuncts as well.
