Common Questions and Answers about Yasmin hair

Avatar f tn So I hear (and I have also read) that yasmin is AWESOME for women with PCOS.. Any comments? I am about to switch from alesse to yasmin but I am nervous because there have been many birth control pills that give me uncontrollable mood swings, anxiety and depression. Alesse has been okay for me, not the best, but ok. Does anyone else experience this when they take birth control pills? I think that it is related very closely to PCOS.
Avatar n tn I have been in menopause since I was 23 yr old, now i am 29. I still don't have the swing of it. I was given "yasmin" to help me with my menopause. I am balding and losing so much hair its scary. It is now noticeable and I don't know what to do! I am always tired, depressed and my skin is starting to droop. I would be perfectly fine with aging naturally at the appropriate age but I'm not!
Avatar n tn I have PCOS and have been on Yasmin BCP for like 6 years to control my PCOS symptoms. The reproductive endocrinologist told me Yasmin is the gold standard for PCOS patients because the drospirenone works best in mitigating the symptoms of high testosterone like acne and hair growth. Well my gyn nurse practitioner called and I guess there is new evidence out that Yasmin is causing causes more blood clots than other BCPs, and this is a risk that increases as you get older.
704655 tn?1228685706 Hello, I also have dealt with the same since I was 19 I am now 28. My doctor have only prescibed birth control "Yasmin" to help control or even "cure" my facial hair from under my chin; However, I can't say that the Yasmin didn't work because I never really stayed on it long enough to find out b/c of the side affects. Nevertheless, you may be a different make-up than me. My body just couldn't handle it.
Avatar f tn Metformin and some type of birth control pill are normally the treatments of pcos. I've had pcos since (and maybe longer) 2007 and have been on metformin 500mg 2x since Jan of this year, plus I'm on Yasmin bc pills. Yasmin, like luisa24 said is the best form of bc pills for pcos. It also helps great if you suffer from mild acne breakouts. To answer your question about the side affects after you stopped treatment, well that i cannot answer.
Avatar n tn m ready, is there an alternative pill to birth control that will combat the hair loss. It is the yasmin birth control that is stopping my hair from falling out and helped regrow hair. So I was wondering if there is medication that contains whichever ingredients are contained in birth control that has aided in my hair regrowth that I could take so that I can go off the pill when I'm ready to get pregnant and not have my hair fall out again.
5121963 tn?1363905257 I have been suffering with severe endometriosis since I was 16 years old. It's been 6 or more years and I am still going through the same stuff. I am on progesterone (for almost a year) and it's stopping the menstrual cycle and stopping more endo from growing, which is what we want, but it's also causing so many horrible side effects! Like hair loss; weight gain; depression; hot flashes; etc. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Avatar n tn I too am on Yasmin, but never had any problems while taking them. I was told that Yasmin bc is the best choice given to those with acne problems and pcos. It's a mild dose of bc. Try to give yourself 3 months to regulate it in your body. Consult your doctor if you have serious side affects. Are you taking any other meds for your pcos? I'm also on Metformin for weight issues. I started my journey in September 2008 at 333lbs and I am now at 272lbs.
Avatar n tn She can be treated with birth control pills to regulate her period and to decrease the production of hair. The best birth control pill would be Yasmin which contains a progestin called DSP which will decrease production of testosterone. Although, Yasmin can help decrease future hair production, the current hair can only be removed by electrolysis or plucking or removal.
Avatar n tn Providing you are not overweight or a heavy smoker, discuss taking an anti-androgen contraceptive pill such as Diane35 (oestrogen and cyproterone acetate) with your doctor. Some women also find Yasmin helpful as it is not based on testosterone. Avoid the progesterone-only mini pill or Depot shot as these can make your skin worse. Eloise.
Avatar f tn I was overweight/obese as a child and teenager until my early 20s. Aged 21 I started getting excess facial/bodily hair and my weight increased to its highest (can't remember what but I was a UK size 18/US size 22). Then aged 22 my periods went from being 5 days long, 3 days heavy 2 light to lasting just 3 days, none particularly heavy. Aged approx 26 I went on the pill, first microgynon then after this didn't go well I was switched to yasmin.
Avatar f tn Completely agree. Yasmin has been my answer to moodiness/psm for 15 years now. On Yasmin I actually feel BETTER during the standard "pms" days of the month for taking it! Recently, on a whim, I too took the advice of the pharmisist who recommended Isobelle as an "exactly the same generic verse of Yasmin at a cheaper price" and have been taking it for over one month now.....OMG.
Avatar f tn I never had regular periods but wasn't diagnosed with PCOS until I was trying to get pregnant. I had bloodwork done and had an elevated LH FSH ratio. Had twins via IVF. Now I'm done reproducing and just wondering whether or not I should try to manage my hormone levels. The husband is getting a vasectomy, so contraception isn't really an issue. I'm 28 years old and haven't had any symptoms of PCOS.
698575 tn?1229608278 Hi. I was on Yasmin three years, after that I was on Zoladex and now I am on Yasmin again. I don't know for sure, but I think that Yasmin prevents ovulation and it makes harder for sperm to reach uterus (it is harder for the fertilized egg to attach to the uterus). I have read this: The primary mechanism of Yasmin is inhibition of ovulation.
Avatar f tn (on saturday the 9th) And am now on week 3 of yasmin. my period is due this week. Do i continue taking yasmin? or should i stop taking it and start again on the first day of my period?

Avatar n tn t know what may cause her to bleed so much so often. What other symptoms does she have? Does she have excessive hair growth? Weight gain? Anything else that might indicate PCOS? Have the doctor see her so that they can run some tests, maybe an ultrasound or something. Good luck, honey.

Avatar n tn Have you thought about gradually coming off the tablets? A slow gradual change is much less likely to cause problems than a sudden change.
Avatar n tn I've bin taking Yasmin for over a year and planning to fall pregnant early next year ( before March), How soon can I stop taking them?
Avatar f tn I would say to try the pill out for a few months, like 3 UNLESS your symptoms get worse. The body needs time to adjust to any bcp and 3 months is the normal. I'm on Yasmin too and never had any problems with it. Yasmin is one of the top bcp that is given to woman with pcos because most woman can tolerate it better then other bcp. The only thing I've found while taking Yasmin (and I think this goes for ALL bcp) it raises my blood pressure a little.
Avatar n tn i took yasmin for nearly one year then stopped(my periods were regular while taking yasmin), got pregnant after 2months of stopping yasmin, but unfortunately it was ectopic and so i lost it. i would advice you to be careful once you stop yasmin. Also i was taking caltrate(vitaminD+calcium) tablets once a day.
Avatar f tn t want to repeat first names either.. My son has dark brown hair, big beautiful brown eyes, a button nose and olive colored skin - assuming our daughter will look similar we are having a hard time.
Avatar n tn i have been off Yasmin pill for 3 months now (i was on it for a few years!!) so far no periods and hair loss, how long will this go on for?
