Avatar f tn Metformin and some type of birth control pill are normally the treatments of pcos. I've had pcos since (and maybe longer) 2007 and have been on metformin 500mg 2x since Jan of this year, plus I'm on Yasmin bc pills. Yasmin, like luisa24 said is the best form of bc pills for pcos. It also helps great if you suffer from mild acne breakouts. To answer your question about the side affects after you stopped treatment, well that i cannot answer.
Avatar n tn ovarian dysfunction (not ovulating regularly), hyperandrogenism (increased male type hormones on lab testing or clinically increased hair growth), or polycystic ovaries on ultrasound (ovaries which show multiple small cysts on ultrasound). PCOS is a common cause of infertility and puts women at an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. There is also increased risk of insulin resistance, hypertension, and abnormalities of cholesterol and triglycerides in women with PCOS.
Avatar n tn i have been taking the yasmin pill for a few years and its recently making me not feel passionate with my partner. When i stop taking it to have a period i feel passionate. This isnt good for me and my partner as our sex life is non existant unless im having a period.
Avatar f tn Shortly after the abortion I found out I have polycystic ovaries and had been put on Yasmin birth control pills. I took the pill for two cycles and stopped. Since I stopped I have been ttc and had cycles ranging from 28-29 days. I know that some women "bleed" and it seems like a "period" but isn't a "period" and it’s called anovulatory bleeding. My question is can you have a normal Period and still have a Ovulation problem?
Avatar f tn It's very likely is that your body is just trying to adjust. I'm not sure about Yasmin in particular, but from what I've learned the average time for a body to regulate itself after coming of a BC pill is about 6 months. I came off the pill and haven't had a regular cycle since and it's been 2 years now. That's likely just that my natural cycles are irregular though... I hope your issues resolve soon!
Avatar f tn Well I too have pcos and I take metformin 500mg 2x and yasmin bc pills. I've been on the bc pills for close to 2 years and metformin i started in september 2008 (taking them everyday). Metformin is the only known drug that is given out to pcos sufferers.

456874 tn?1218139741 They have also found that I have cysts on my kidney and on ovary. My PCM thinks that I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome); My endo gave me a rx to fill of Glumetza to help with the PCOS. My gyn tried to put me on the Nuva ring to help with symtoms of PMS; my hands swelled up so big that it scared me----called him and he took me off of it Friday. My questions to all of you is : Have you heard of anyone getting cysts in different organs?

Avatar f tn Dr. was lovely. Said should be fine. Said load of rhubarb that it'll be harder for me to get pregnant cause of polycystic ovaries. Says there's a window where we can get pregnant, depending on my cycle. I got to book to have a blood test on the 21st in any hospital - got the forms - just to make sure I'm ovulating, although he doesn't see why not.
Avatar f tn I just found out I have polycystic ovaries and I am a little freaked out by it. My doctor started me on birth control and metformin for the next six months with orders to lose weight. I am wondering how hard or if I will be able to overcome this problem and be able to conceive.
Avatar f tn A smear test can test for various things, polycystic ovaries, cancer, HPV etc, all women should get one but at the moment they wont give them to women under 25 because of lack of funding which is riduculous! If you are over 25 i'd call your doctor and they will book you in to see a nurse for a smear test. It will tell you if there are any abnormalities so it is very important.
704655 tn?1228685706 Hello, I also have dealt with the same since I was 19 I am now 28. My doctor have only prescibed birth control "Yasmin" to help control or even "cure" my facial hair from under my chin; However, I can't say that the Yasmin didn't work because I never really stayed on it long enough to find out b/c of the side affects. Nevertheless, you may be a different make-up than me. My body just couldn't handle it.
682098 tn?1236908245 I was on birth control for years and used in continuously for months at a time (Yasmin) and it didn't stop my endometriosis.
Avatar f tn I am 30 yrs of age married for 8 years with no children. I have been suffering from chocolate cyst on Left ovary and poly-cyst on the right ovary. I do not intend to have children. I have undergone laproscopy for 2 times, once on each ovary but the cyst keeps resurfacing. Can I remove my reproductive system to get rid of the cyst problem. If I do so what are the consequences I have to face (Keeping in mind the health, anxiety, mood fluctuations, sexual life etc.
Avatar n tn Hello ladies, I am new to this forum. I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 19. I'll be 33 next month. I've suffered from severe acne, cysts, abnormal periods and major mood swings. I've had 3 laproscopies and I've been on Yasmin for over 8 years. I have to say, of the 5 or 6 different bc pills I've taken, I found Yasmin to be the best. It really curbed my acne a great deal. Also, I had no cysts. On some of the other bc pills, I still developed cystic ovaries.
1283872 tn?1271558641 i tried many different types of bth control, but none seemed to work.i have had polycystic ovaries for a year and ahalf now,i went to see a doc 3 times before i had this bleeding,on each occa he had me do blood tests n preg test he said everything is ok,but i know its not cause before the bleeding i was having really sharp pains in my womb that would last for a few seconds.i told him about that also and he still said nothings wrong.
Avatar f tn Its actually 2 diff things, one causes symtoms ie weight gain, hair growth in unwanted place, spots and of course cysts infertility and lack of a proper monthly cycle, whereas polycystic ovaries without the sydrome do not give you symtoms.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am on Yasmin (birth control pills) for five years, so I wanted to write to you, maybe I will help in some way. I am using them in oreder to help with endometriosis and polycystic ovary. My periods were lighter the first few years with Yasmin, but after that there is no difference than regular periods; my periods are sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier... It depends.
