Hi, fast heart rate is due to Xopenex. Initially, use of this drug is associated with this side effect but over a period of time, tolerance usually develops. In case if you have a pre exisiting heart disease, please avoid this drug.
Consult you treating doctor to lower the dose or frequency, other alternative is sustained release deriphylline tablets.
Either way though, with your reactions after exercise, it sounds like a fast acting broncho dilater (some form of albuterol - Proventil, Porair, Maxair, Xopenex, Ventolin) might be a good idea. These medications can be used as a pretreatment for exercise eliminating the reaction and allowing for a better workout.

My son had been diagnosed with pneumonia 4 times in the past four months, as well as bronchiolitis in between. He has been treated with Rocephin, Azithromycin, and Amoxil. He has breathing treatments 4 times a day (pulmicort & xopenex) has had 2 episodes of cyanosis, and been hospitalized for low oxygen satuation, wheezing etc. His pediatrician tells me I shouldn't panic and that he has asthma. He is only 13 mos old!
There are times where I feel like my lungs are tight or have some mucous in them, but when I use my peak flow meter I'm 85%-100% of my personal best. Does anyone else experience this? Does it mean I'm really not having asthma symptoms and should not use my inhaler (although it feels like I should)? Or maybe there's an aspect of my asthma that is not being addressed?
My 6 year old grandaughter often has to take Xopenex HFA for asthma related issues. It makes her extremely irritable, she has a bad temper and in general is very mooddy? Is this a side affect?
s run a low grade temp for 13 days running, has taken codituss cough med (with codiend), breathing treatments with Xopenex, and has finished a round of Z-pack. Coughing is horrible at bedtime and through the night. Since she has a low grade temp I had disregarded an allergy. 13 days into this, I'm re-thinking everything. I'm looking for help. Is this a virus or allergy or what? She can sit in a room 6 ft from the guinea pigs and not cough at all.
hat answer is vey misleading I have Coronary Artery Spasm and when I have Asthma attacks with Hypoxia it most certainly causes increased Angina. Then the albuterol makes it even worse and lands me in ER often for both hypoxia with out the albuterol and with even more increased angina and unable to stop angina with sublingual spray after taking albuterol.
However, my son has been on other medications for sinisitis and bronchitis that could account for a headache. He now off of pulmicort, xopenex and nasonex. He is currently going through allergy testing as well. It is very difficult for me to try to determine the cause of the headache with so much going on with him. He is feeling completely better aside from this headache.
Yes, have tried Flovent, Xopenex and Advair based on diagnosis from first pulmonologist. None of it helped. After a second pulmonologist did a flo test, he ruled out regular and exercise-induced asthma.
She is on Q-VAR twice a day as her maintaince medicine and takes xopenex when needed (which is every time she gets a cold) and then usually takes the prednisone because nothing else works. Very frustrated! I read your story and very interested on pycnogenol and other things (probiotics) you were talking about. Not familiar with any of them and would love more info about them as I am so tired of giving my daughter all these medicines that don"t even work!! Thanks for your time!
