Common Questions and Answers about Xopenex side effects in infants

xopenex

Avatar n tn Hi, I have a 6 year old son with autism and asthma who has currently started on the Xopenex for the asthma control. He has become extremely hyperactive and somewhat aggressive with the Xopenex, and I am wondering if there are any other meds that wouldn't have this side effect.
Avatar n tn Hi Aidens_Mom, Ya it's new to me also that asthma causes a 103 degree fever! Asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around. When steroids are inhaled into the lungs to treat asthma it creates an immune suppression and can make the person more susceptible to infection. This is a scary thing for a mother not to mention your son and should be investigated further. I would recommend they refer you to a Immunologist, and have the level of antibodies your son has evaluated.
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
Avatar n tn It makes her extremely irritable, she has a bad temper and in general is very mooddy? Is this a side affect?
Avatar n tn He started out on 25 mg with no side effects. Two weeks after he increased to 50 mg he began a headache - meaning it has not stopped. Here we are, going on week three of a headache. However, my son has been on other medications for sinisitis and bronchitis that could account for a headache. He now off of pulmicort, xopenex and nasonex. He is currently going through allergy testing as well. It is very difficult for me to try to determine the cause of the headache with so much going on with him.
Avatar m tn Bystolic is a beta-blocker, and a side effects is fatigue, although the manufacture alleges there is a lower incidence in the promotional literature. And yes, those inhalers have side-affects also. Using any medication entails a risk-benefit situation. My opinion is that the patient should be the one making the final decision. To find an answer regarding a specific medication the physician and the pharmacist are not the people to consult.
327369 tn?1326119908 This is how my son is. He is 4 now. Have you found anything that helped.
Avatar n tn Initially, use of this drug is associated with this side effect but over a period of time, tolerance usually develops. In case if you have a pre exisiting heart disease, please avoid this drug. Consult you treating doctor to lower the dose or frequency, other alternative is sustained release deriphylline tablets.
1361044 tn?1277598308 Honestly, in my opinion, babies are so wrapped up in this new world, all the new things going in for them, that a little cold (virus) hardly slows them down. it could be your baby is behind because she doesn't feel well all the time, and THAT is holding her back. Maybe not, but in either case I would push for them to figure it out. Chalking it all down to a virus is a lazy, sorry excuse. My point is, YOU DO know your child more than anyone.
Avatar n tn Singulair can cause severely aggressive behavior. Please visit www.parentsforsafety.
Avatar n tn Maybe they are not noticable at first, but anything that makes one breathe will have side effects. Pharmaceutical drugs do not cure. In fact some of the side effects can cause one to wheeze more. I take this medication as little as possible. I also noticed that as soon as we turned our gas heater on in November I started to wheeze like I never have before. We are now using electric heat and I am actually improving.
Avatar f tn How much time we need to continue this medication? Any known side effects of Levipil for infants?
Avatar m tn I am interested in the prognosis of other infants or young children that have survived an aneurysm through surgery. Any history or information you could share would be appreciated. He was admitted in hospital due to fever where aneurysm may have potentially ruptured, seized for 3 hours, lot of blood in his brain, went through coiling surgery, had 2 angioplasty to control cerebral vasospasm.
Avatar f tn Advair is a combination medication. It has an ihaled corticosteroird (ICS) and a long acting beta2 agonist (LABA - long acting broncho dilater). It is not recommended that you stop taking the ICS all at once. It is a steroid, although it doesn't have the same side effects of oral steroids. The ICS is really the primary treatment for asthma. After you are feeling better, you can discus trying an ICS only medication like Asmanex or Alvesco with your doctor.
Avatar m tn However it is not advisable to use too much of steroid creams as it has plenty of side effects like skin atrophy, skin thinning, telangiectasia, steroid induced rosacea or redness. Use it only as per the prescription and have regular follow ups with your child’s doctor. Also the best treatment of eczema is use of moisturizers which should be applied in a thin layer on the eczematous patch.
Avatar m tn HAVE YOU CONSIDERED HAVING AN ABLATION. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE TWO, BUT IT HAS MADE IT WHERE I DON'T HAVE ANY REAL BAD PROBLEMS WITH SVT ANYMORE. MY NEW ASTHMA DR CHANGED MY INHALER TO XOPENEX. IT HAS LESS SIDE EFFECTS ON THE HEART. IT DOESN'T MAKE IT BEAT AS FAST AS PROVENTHIL DOES AND DOESN'T MAKE ME NEAR AS GITTERY. THERE ARE ALSO SOME MEDS YOU CAN TAKE TO KEEP SVT (TACARDIA) UNDER CONTROL.
Avatar m tn Dear Rjthkids, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that can cause severe pulmonary infections in infants. The effects of this, especially in the still developing lungs after birth, can take a long time from which to recover. However, you have a special circumstance that complicates things: you live at significant altitude. The relative lack of oxygen at that altitude can lead to elevated blood pressure across the lungs, which is called pulmonary hypertension.

Avatar f tn It also triggers by breathing in something irritating e.g. smokes, perfumes. So i really want to ask whether i got asthma or not.
Avatar f tn For my migraine (it's been 3 1/2 years of an ongoing headache now), 2 of my most important drugs are Verapamil SR (calcium channel blocker) and Methergine (constricts the blood vessels). I really notice if these drugs aren't in my system on time. I've had no real noticeable side effects with these. I also am on Xopenex inhaler. If your doctor tells you you're out of options (or you get the feeling that s/he is close to saying it), move on.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I take Dulera/Singulair/Xopenex and Spiriva and sometimes Combivent. Is there a med like theophylline that can help me? I'm also having bad sleep apnea and am crippled by this and can't work or think because of my lung diseases. Is my sleep apnea caused by asthma or narrowed airway?
Avatar f tn Teratogenic effects were not observed in animal studies. Diphenhydramine crosses the human placenta. One retrospective study showed an increased risk of cleft palate formation following maternal use of diphenhydramine during the 1st trimester of pregnancy; however, later studies have not confirmed this finding. Signs of toxicity and symptoms of withdrawal have been reported in infants following high doses or chronic maternal use close to term.
Avatar m tn Obviously, you want to be on the prednisone for as short a time as possible to avoid long term side effects. However, NOT being on it is sometimes not an option. Everyone is different and can/will react to medications differently - and the side effects that one person experiences may not affect someone else with the same medication and dosage. So, unfortunately, it' simpossible for someone to tell you how long you can be on th eprednisone before side effects starting taking their toll.
