Avatar n tn The 2 classes are 1) inhaled steroids and 2) orally administered medicines that block biochemical asthma pathways involved in asthma worsening, an example of which is Singulair® (montelukast sodium). A third group of asthma medicines commonly used are, medicines similar to Xopenex® Inhalation Solution (levalbuterol) but long acting for 8 to 12 hours. These medicines might or might not result in hyperactivity and should be the last to be considered, especially for a young child. Good luck.
Avatar f tn So if you are experiencing frequent attacks of asthma, you should try to prevent triggering agents which cause asthma and also get evaluated by a pulmonologist for correction of dose of polemicist for preventing further attacks of asthma. Hope this helps. Best.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I assume, from your statement, that “the wheezing and chest tightness” is of new onset, having begun just ten weeks ago. This could be asthma and/or the lingering effects of an episode of acute bronchitis, 10 weeks ago. Given your current drug therapy, it is possible but highly unlikely that the addition of some type of theophylline could provide additional benefit. Sleep apnea can make asthma worse and vice versa.
1987536 tn?1337916244 First trimester asthma tried to kill me off, and my little one has been exposed to a lot of medication, but all of it is recommended by my pulmonary specialist, who knows what meds are likely to have the least effect on the baby. He actually switched me from advair to symbicort, and from albuterol to xopenex. 24 weeks now and my little girl is doing just fine. They do need us to give them oxygen, so take your meds if you need to.
Avatar f tn Long story short, his lungs have been perfectly healthy up until about 2 months ago. He had an acute onset of wheezing, retractions, dry hacking cough. X-ray showed a slight inflitrate. He was treated with antibiotics and was started on pulmacort and xoponex. 3 wks later, he had another episode. Symptoms all the same but this time x-ray showed bronchitis with no infiltrate. I took him to the ER and he was started on prednisone and we continued xoponex as before.
212161 tn?1599427282 hey , thank you for taking your time to be here for all of us. i never had asthma now they say i have it been sick with cold oct 17 turn into this i feel better but sometimes feel like am under water, so i have inhalers but so scared to take because of heart racing etc. do all inhalers do that and are there any that dont. i wheeze alot at night but to scared to take a puff. plus they putting me on tricor for high tris i think will all my meds mix with that to.
Avatar n tn Hi, fast heart rate is due to Xopenex. Initially, use of this drug is associated with this side effect but over a period of time, tolerance usually develops. In case if you have a pre exisiting heart disease, please avoid this drug. Consult you treating doctor to lower the dose or frequency, other alternative is sustained release deriphylline tablets.
Avatar f tn All of them Xopenex is the only one that does not go by albuterol. No generics because of the cfc ban. We do have generic albuterol neb solution. The Xopenex doesn't cause the shakiness that the other versions do and can be more effective. I wonder if that is what part of my problem has been? hmmmmm... I am going to ask for a sample of Xopenex to try for odor exposures again.
Avatar n tn Patients who are receiving systemic or nebulized formulations of beta-2 agonists, high dosages of inhaled beta-2 agonists, or systemic corticosteroid therapy may be at a greater risk of developing hypokalemia and hence best avoided. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Noting the date on your question, I would assume you have either gone without sleep or hopefully received some help and are better now! I have had what I guess is adult onset Asthma for 10+ years .. but never any serious problems. Until late '06 a sinus infection, then mild flu like sumptoms and then the straw that broke the camel's back...my Advair stopped working ... and then an infection! Family internist sent me to a Pulminoligist who diagnosed MycoPlasma Pneumoniae...
Avatar m tn m interested in hearing from anybody who has had similar symptoms, or a similar course of action before getting a diagnosis. I have never really heard of tinnitis or vertigo being symptoms of MS, and those are the main reasons I even started pursuing medical help to begin with. The doctors have ruled out some explanations (like the acoustic neuroma), but there are still other possibilities on the table (Meniere's disease, or even high blood pressure for example).
Avatar n tn It kind of sounds like a form of Action tremors, but I have to agree with mkh9.
1315759 tn?1274044788 I have the albuterol for both, flovent,& advair. I take the albuterol & flovent inhalers 4 times a day plus the machine.Advair twice. But I still have flair ups & when I do the best thing I have fond for me & my grandson is taking a very hot pot of water of the stove putting it on the floor under us. Then take a towel or blanket cover our head so we can get the stem from the water. I know that's an old thing but it works so well to brake up stuff in between meds.
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
Avatar m tn The onset of action ranges from 45 minutes - 1 ½ hours, and the duration of action is six hours. Diazepam carries a bi-phasic half-life of 20-50 hours (for Diazepam), and 30-200 hours (for Desmethyldiazepam). Valium is indicated for the long-term management of generalized anxiety and tension-anxiety. Tolerance will not develop to the anxiolytic property of Diazepam, although tolerance will develop to the sedative/hypnotic property.
Avatar m tn A partial µ-opioid receptor agonist, its mixed agonist/antagonist activity affords it a lower risk of dependence and abuse than full µ agonists like morphine. Meptazinol exhibits not only a short onset of action, but also a shorter duration of action relative to other opioids such as morphine, pentazocine, or buprenorphine.
Avatar f tn What is the onset of action after taking a dose of the immunoglobulin.
Avatar f tn On Monday I took him to see his Asthma/Allergy doctor. He said that he must have gotten some sort of virus and it triggered his asthma. He told me to continue his Singulair, Pulmicort Respules one time a day, Xopenex in the nebulizer every four hours, and he prescribed Prednisone two times per day (dr. said to start the steroid only if the cough does not slow down). So on Wednesday morning, my son woke up at 6:30am coughing non-stop....coughing so much that he vomited!
Avatar f tn v never heard of this kind of reaction with an asthma attack, maybe someone else on the forum has experience with that. If his colour was good, then his attack probably wasn't severe. I think you're correct in that this is more likely a cardiovascular issue. I have a cousin who used to get seizures when she had extremely low blood sugar levels with her diabetes, so there are many causes for such a reaction. You probably should check it out with his doctor just to be safe.

Avatar f tn After he/she takes the x-ray, they will go over them to determine what plan of action to take. After a few treatments, you should start to feel better.
