Xopenex medicine

Common Questions and Answers about Xopenex medicine

xopenex

Avatar n tn Xopenex® Inhalation Solution (levalbuterol) is a short acting inhaled medicine, a rescue medicine, with fewer side effects than similar medicines used for the relief of acute asthma symptoms. It is not a medicine well-suited for long term, sustained asthma control. There are other classes of asthma medicines, called controller medicines and these do not have the same excitatory side effects.
Avatar n tn My 6 year old grandaughter often has to take Xopenex HFA for asthma related issues. It makes her extremely irritable, she has a bad temper and in general is very mooddy? Is this a side affect?
212161 tn?1599427282 thank you so much i have the rescue one xopenex hfa says its levalbuterol. than i have one for night its a powder its asmanex . i have been like this now for 2 months it seems to get better than last night it was not bad but woke me up at 1 could not sleep for coughing and wheezing and scared i was going have a bad attack and die from it , so i need the inhaler just to scared to take it. so are these ok or will the xop cause the heart speed. thank you so much.
Avatar n tn Hi, fast heart rate is due to Xopenex. Initially, use of this drug is associated with this side effect but over a period of time, tolerance usually develops. In case if you have a pre exisiting heart disease, please avoid this drug. Consult you treating doctor to lower the dose or frequency, other alternative is sustained release deriphylline tablets.
Avatar n tn appreciate the info, problem is I dont currently have a doctor. no medicines either. I was diagnosed in 2005 and have been on advair and xopenex for a nebulizer but since around Dec or so precsriptions ran out and no insurance so dont have a doctor or any medicine. I am making it okay but did need advice about this trip. not sure at this point what to do. I will be traveling with my 2 grandkids 5 and 6 and sure dont need any health scares with them present as their dad just died may 2008.
Avatar f tn Either way though, with your reactions after exercise, it sounds like a fast acting broncho dilater (some form of albuterol - Proventil, Porair, Maxair, Xopenex, Ventolin) might be a good idea. These medications can be used as a pretreatment for exercise eliminating the reaction and allowing for a better workout. I hope that helps you. Good luck obtaining an accurate diagnosis and the medication that is best for you.
1315759 tn?1274044788 or the breathing treatments? at the hospital, they give me xopenex, which works ok, not really good for me. the last time i went to the hospital, the therapist gave me atrovent and xopenex, with 4 doses in one. i told them it was making me too jittery, way more than normal and nobody listened. instead of getting better, it was staying the same and making me feel out of control. how can i get my doctor to prescribe me a pulse ox for at home?
Avatar n tn (I have had asthma my entire life and at the first signs of a sniffle and some tightness I immediately start a prednisone taper and Xopenex nebulizer). I was prescribed azithromycin and told to continue with my xopenex and prednisone. I also took cough syrup, sudafed and motrin. Saturday I was significantly worse and over the weekend it esciladed. My temperature would go from 96.2 to 100.5 and back down over a 30min period.
312330 tn?1245176752 Flovent, serevent (essentially advair), singulair, zithromax and xopenex ( I am on several others but these are specifically for my asthmatic problems). Some people do very well on Theo...I hope that it works out for you.
Avatar n tn As a child she had been told she was asthmatic however we discovered that she had a deviated septum (this was surgically corrected 2 years ago) and removed Cytomel from her treatment plan which -helped the breathing issues considerably. Now the complication when she takes the asthma medicine she swims AWFUL even though she says her chest isn't so tight. It seems the asthma medicine is working against her. Could her Hashimo's disease be the real source of her breathing issues?
Avatar f tn He said that he must have gotten some sort of virus and it triggered his asthma. He told me to continue his Singulair, Pulmicort Respules one time a day, Xopenex in the nebulizer every four hours, and he prescribed Prednisone two times per day (dr. said to start the steroid only if the cough does not slow down). So on Wednesday morning, my son woke up at 6:30am coughing non-stop....coughing so much that he vomited!
Avatar n tn Almost all my meds have stopped working (spiriva, symbicort, advair, etc.) the only meds that have any effect is my xopenex inhaler - even the xopenex solution for my nebulizer causes breathing problems sometimes. Even the oxygen(2 ltrs) is not working as well. If I am setting down I breath very well with or without the oxygen but if I start moving around I must have the oxygen and then I'm still short of breath.
212161 tn?1599427282 Yes, it's called adult onset asthma. I never had it either until one year ago, but because I went on a very healthy diet and eliminated milk products and sugar, I stopped wheezing. Lately I started eating all of the bad foods again and now once again I am wheezing. I too refuse to take medications, but 2 weeks ago I did use Xopenex (it's a bronchodialator) that helped me to breathe.
212161 tn?1599427282 I don't have pac, my mom, gradmother, and sister do though so I know what it is! I do have attackacardia (a very high, yet steady, pulse for no reason that they can find). I take Xoponex as my emergency inhaler and that really helps me and doesn't get my heart racing. It is supposed to have the medicine that does that taken out of it but my dr said it doesn't work for all people.
Avatar f tn She was tested for allergies and asthma twice She takes singulair albuterol inhaler and xopenex viles in her nebulizer according to the recommendations of the doctor . Each time she has a spell of not getting her breath she also experiences heart pounding episodes Also after strenuous exercise occasionally this heart pounding occurs.
Avatar n tn Acid reflux is common in people with asthma. I have both. If my acid reflux is acting up then my asthma acts up. If your asthma medicine or acid reflux medicine isn't working, I would go back to the doctor. There are several different medicines that can be tried to get them both under control. You need to have a really good pulmanologist. Mine deals with my acid reflux and my asthma.
Avatar n tn Albuterol isn't the only rescue inhaler. Xopenex is also and it doesn't make you hyper or nervous like albuterol. I have battled copd for 15 years and I quit albuterol in favor of Xopenex inhaler and nebs.
Avatar n tn The doctors have put my 4 year old on xopenex and pulmicort via nebulizer. they said that is the best one for him, he has a complicated history. You really need to seek a 2nd opinion, and that is just my opinion. from everything that my little guy has been through I always maek sure that I also have a copy of his medical reports that way there if you go for a second opinion, then you have all of that stuff and you can be prepared. to ask questions or whatever.
Avatar n tn My son had been diagnosed with pneumonia 4 times in the past four months, as well as bronchiolitis in between. He has been treated with Rocephin, Azithromycin, and Amoxil. He has breathing treatments 4 times a day (pulmicort & xopenex) has had 2 episodes of cyanosis, and been hospitalized for low oxygen satuation, wheezing etc. His pediatrician tells me I shouldn't panic and that he has asthma. He is only 13 mos old!

Avatar m tn Hi, it is possible to be having asthma issues and maintaim a good peak flow for a while. Peak flow reflects how clear the larger airways are. You could be having issues in the smaller airways. The presence of mucous would indicate that something is probably going on. You should really discus this with your dr at your next visit and see what he/she says. Another thought would be acid reflux. Could this be an issue for you?
1580703 tn?1651904887 I take Dulera/Singulair/Xopenex and Spiriva and sometimes Combivent. Is there a med like theophylline that can help me? I'm also having bad sleep apnea and am crippled by this and can't work or think because of my lung diseases. Is my sleep apnea caused by asthma or narrowed airway?
Avatar n tn s run a low grade temp for 13 days running, has taken codituss cough med (with codiend), breathing treatments with Xopenex, and has finished a round of Z-pack. Coughing is horrible at bedtime and through the night. Since she has a low grade temp I had disregarded an allergy. 13 days into this, I'm re-thinking everything. I'm looking for help. Is this a virus or allergy or what? She can sit in a room 6 ft from the guinea pigs and not cough at all.
327369 tn?1326119908 P.S. Our meds are Xopenex, Pulmicort..........these do not work during a cold and we always end up on Orapred (steriod). He has to have it though...........but we are on this a lot -----do you worry about the side effects of this if you have a child. Thanks!
