Avatar f tn In the states we have several versions of albuterol - Proair, Proventil, Ventolin, Maxair (technically pributerol) and a purified version Xopenex (technically levalbuterol). All of them Xopenex is the only one that does not go by albuterol. No generics because of the cfc ban. We do have generic albuterol neb solution. The Xopenex doesn't cause the shakiness that the other versions do and can be more effective. I wonder if that is what part of my problem has been? hmmmmm...
Avatar n tn Xopenex® Inhalation Solution (levalbuterol) is a short acting inhaled medicine, a rescue medicine, with fewer side effects than similar medicines used for the relief of acute asthma symptoms. It is not a medicine well-suited for long term, sustained asthma control. There are other classes of asthma medicines, called controller medicines and these do not have the same excitatory side effects.
Avatar f tn For starters, I'd see your doctor and let them know you are having exercise induced asthma problems. May I ask what controller asthma meds are? (Inhaler & pills, aside from albuterol or levalbuterol.) Prednisone should be a last resort anymore. Leukotriene inhibitors such as montelukast (Singulair), and Advair (diskus or HFA inhaler) are better choices for controller medications. There's other options, too, I'm just mentioning the two I use.
212161 tn?1599427282 hey have a question has anyone gotton asthma at late in life am 49 never ever had asthma and got a cold now its going on 6 weeks and am still coughing all the time and wheezing a lot but i refuse to use the inhaler , i have a racing heart and dont they make your heart race? could some one plz shed some light for me. my son had it grew out of it he had as a small child , probley because i smoked when preg with him , but i have never had it and they telling me i do. thanks for all the help.
Avatar m tn Hi, it is possible to be having asthma issues and maintaim a good peak flow for a while. Peak flow reflects how clear the larger airways are. You could be having issues in the smaller airways. The presence of mucous would indicate that something is probably going on. You should really discus this with your dr at your next visit and see what he/she says. Another thought would be acid reflux. Could this be an issue for you?
Avatar f tn My 10 year old has been diagnosed at a childrens hospital with asthma about 4 years ago As an infant I had been given an inhaler and mask for her because she was wheezing after throwing up her formula which she did often .
212161 tn?1599427282 I used to take albuterol for fast acting inhaler, but my cardiologist changed me to the xoponex because it is easier on heart patients.
3086858 tn?1340852861 I am still on a Levalbuterol oral inhaler. I was also getting facial hives, but they did not itch, I did not mention that to my doctor and from my reading I wonder if I should have. For the hives I was prescribed Zyrtec 10mg. Previously I had been taking Benadryl, but it was making me very tired and causing me to sleepwalk/sleep eat. Before that I took Loratidine 10mg as needed for allergy symptoms.
Avatar f tn The pollen has been so high and I discovered a mold problem in my house. I have been using my rescue inhaler more, and the spasms in my chest are more frequent. Is it related? This discussion is related to Allergies and Epstein Barr Virus.

Avatar n tn Your airways are irritated and this can take some time to recover from especially with your already compromised state. Do you use an inhaler? This article is a quick read https://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/features/stubborn-cough#1. I think following up with your doctor at the end of taking Bactrim if you are still coughing would be a good idea to get their guidance. But likely, it's the dreaded lingering cough. Let us know how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I was able to quit using Advair and only use my rescue inhaler from time to time. (When someone decides to wear certain perfumes or colognes). I am taking grape seed extract which contains OPCs which are very good for controlling asthma. Just thought somebody would like to know...
Avatar f tn Pulmonary function tests were normal but she thinks I have asthma. I am on Xopenex inhaler and Quvar inhaler. Recently having more attacks and having to use the Xopenx more so she ordered antibiotic and 1 week of predinose. She wants to do a high resolution CT of the chest and methocholine test but it is very exspensive so I am trying the conservative approach first. Do you think I have been misdiagnosed? I am so healthy otherwise and don't smoke.
212161 tn?1599427282 does any one have pac/papations and do a inhaler i need to but to scared it make my heart race. and if it does how long will the racing last. thank you so much for info.
1754037 tn?1327886811 ) the bigger I get I am noticing I need my inhaler more! I take it like 3 times a day. Especially because I live in Hawaii & the weather here is awful like vog & sugar cane smoke!
Avatar n tn I was given a inhaler a couple of months ago because i was wheezing maybe once or twice a week, but now it seems i'm constantly wheezing. It starts as soon as i wake up or simply sitting down doing nothing, it seems to go away if i go outside in the fresh air so could i have an allergy to something indoors?
Avatar m tn HAVE YOU CONSIDERED HAVING AN ABLATION. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE TWO, BUT IT HAS MADE IT WHERE I DON'T HAVE ANY REAL BAD PROBLEMS WITH SVT ANYMORE. MY NEW ASTHMA DR CHANGED MY INHALER TO XOPENEX. IT HAS LESS SIDE EFFECTS ON THE HEART. IT DOESN'T MAKE IT BEAT AS FAST AS PROVENTHIL DOES AND DOESN'T MAKE ME NEAR AS GITTERY. THERE ARE ALSO SOME MEDS YOU CAN TAKE TO KEEP SVT (TACARDIA) UNDER CONTROL.
Avatar n tn I've had asthma since I was 10 yrs old, I'm now 27. I've played soccer since I was a kid and never had any serious issues. About 2 yrs ago I had a real bad cold/sinus infection and ended up in the ER because of my asthma. Ever since then, I have not been able to get my asthma under control. I've been prescribed almost everything you can think of, steroids, albuterol, xopenex (inhaler and inhalation solution), budesonide, mucinex and that's just for my asthma.
212161 tn?1599427282 can any one with asthma tell me if you do this or is the the cold/broncuties maybe just still hanging on. sorry about spelling . and am scared to take a inhakler i have been using the xopenex haler .. i also have the powder asmanex they said take at night which i have not used and got flovent inhaler i have not used either . is one better than the other as far as getting rid of it out bronc tuba so it go away . i hope i not have rest my life .
Avatar f tn The only medications that I take religious are my baclofen, meclazine (sp), xopenex inhaler, and ventolin inhaler. However, I did just have solumedrol treatment. They wanted to put me on Topomax for my head aches, but now I'm frightened! They also said they are most likely going to start me on Avonex. I am just plain freaking out and panicked!
Avatar f tn she is now on steroid inhaler in hopes she doesnt have to use the short acting inhaler( which by the way i had her dr change to xopenex) supposedly less stimulating. Im a nervous wreck..Help pls..
Avatar f tn Last winter she starting having symptoms again which was a usually a cough that led to respiratory infection. If we caught the cough early enough with her inhaler (xopenex) and allergy med (zyrtec) we could avoid the infections. We made it all summer with no problems or use of meds. In August she started again with a cough so we started the Zyrtec and Xopenex again. Her Dr said if we had to use the inhaler more than 3 days/week to bring her in for an appointment.
