Common Questions and Answers about Xopenex breath for less

xopenex

Avatar n tn Hi, I have a 6 year old son with autism and asthma who has currently started on the Xopenex for the asthma control. He has become extremely hyperactive and somewhat aggressive with the Xopenex, and I am wondering if there are any other meds that wouldn't have this side effect.
Avatar n tn I also eliminated dairy products which is also helping me breath and I do much less coughing. There are many foods that can trigger wheezing, it is simply an allergic response to outside stimuli. I have an appointment with a Naturopathic Physician next week as all Doctor's seem to know is pharmaceutical drugs which again, do not cure. I wish you the best.
Avatar f tn My 10 year old has been diagnosed at a childrens hospital with asthma about 4 years ago As an infant I had been given an inhaler and mask for her because she was wheezing after throwing up her formula which she did often .

Avatar n tn Hi, fast heart rate is due to Xopenex. Initially, use of this drug is associated with this side effect but over a period of time, tolerance usually develops. In case if you have a pre exisiting heart disease, please avoid this drug. Consult you treating doctor to lower the dose or frequency, other alternative is sustained release deriphylline tablets.

Avatar f tn Anticholenergics like atrovent and Spireva have mild broncho dilating affects, but they are not nearly as good as albuterol or the long-acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). The best thing for you to do is to take controller meds on schedule as directed by your doctor limiting your need for the rescue inhaler. Feel better.
Avatar f tn Without coughing, the lungs would fill up with mucous and that is more dangerous as it blocks the airways and sets up the lungs for secondary infections. For most asthmatics night time is when it tends to flare up more. That is why he is coughing more at night. It will take a few days for the steroid to kick in. Just keep up with his treatments and keep an eye on his symptoms. Especially for sever shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn My 6 year old grandaughter often has to take Xopenex HFA for asthma related issues. It makes her extremely irritable, she has a bad temper and in general is very mooddy? Is this a side affect?

This has been happening for about a week and a half no matter where i am or what im doing it can happen. My chest becomes tight and my throat seems to be blocked and its hard for me to swallow. I am 26 yr female and i do smoke up to 4 or 5 cigs daily not pks! Please help! could it also be gas?
Avatar f tn I am a 16 year soccer player who did not play for a year because of a severe ankle injury. Since returning nine months ago I have been suffering from fatigue all the time, dizziness some of the time and severe shortness of breath (with chest pain) within 5-10 minutes of playing a game (I have to come out). I've had a cardo and pulmonary stress test, and blood work. All have come back negative. Doctors say I'm in perfect physical condition, but I feel lousy.
Avatar n tn After another week of feeling completely miserable I started to breath better, my nose dried out, and my cough produced less and less green mucus. Sleeping then was hard, but I was able to take my meds, settle down, sleep for about two hours, wake up again from coughing and repeat. Now the coughin is much more dry as another week has passed, the nose has basically stopped and the breathing is better. However, now I can not sleep. Almost not at all.
Avatar f tn I feel like I am not getting enough oxygen to the brain, and I am tired all the time, and I can't focus and concentrate. I feel like my brain is just wondering, and I have make myself snap out of thinking so hard, and then I have to take a deep breath, and I can't because my lungs feel swollen and I have to turn on a fan or go outside to get air to my brain, my brain feels like its suffocating.
212161 tn?1599427282 thank you so much i have the rescue one xopenex hfa says its levalbuterol. than i have one for night its a powder its asmanex . i have been like this now for 2 months it seems to get better than last night it was not bad but woke me up at 1 could not sleep for coughing and wheezing and scared i was going have a bad attack and die from it , so i need the inhaler just to scared to take it. so are these ok or will the xop cause the heart speed. thank you so much.
Avatar m tn I have called my doctor numeroud times for the shortness of breath and to see if there is something I can switch to that would not have the same effects with the fatigue and shortness of breath, she assured me that the Bystolic does not exhibit those effects and it could not be the Bystolic doing this to me that the medication has no side effects that I need to be worried about. Yet online all of what I am feeling are stated as side effects of the medication.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the responses. I have been taking omeprazole for several years for GERD but still have heartburn once in a while, so that is worth considering. Small airway obstruction makes sense because I can take big, deep breaths with little extra effort but still feel like I am short of breath. Is there a better maintenance med than Advair and/or rescue med than Xopenex from small airway asthma? Are supplementing these meds with loratadine and guaifenesin an option?
Avatar n tn Almost all my meds have stopped working (spiriva, symbicort, advair, etc.) the only meds that have any effect is my xopenex inhaler - even the xopenex solution for my nebulizer causes breathing problems sometimes. Even the oxygen(2 ltrs) is not working as well. If I am setting down I breath very well with or without the oxygen but if I start moving around I must have the oxygen and then I'm still short of breath.
Avatar f tn I am going to ask for a sample of Xopenex to try for odor exposures again.
Avatar f tn I am 51. female, very physically fit. I have never smoked. For a year now I have had episodes which start with a cough, usually in the evening. Then I get short-of-breath, have wheezing esp. on expiration. I had allergy testing done and have some allergies and chronic sinusiits. Finally ENT sent me to pulmonolgist. Pulmonary function tests were normal but she thinks I have asthma. I am on Xopenex inhaler and Quvar inhaler.
783328 tn?1236218525 I cannot function normally - because these attack happen 2 times a week and sometimes less or more. When I was put on prednisone and then everthying is ok for a few days I am on it. However, when I stop taking (because I am prescribed prednisone only for 5 days at a time). I am taking OTC mucinex 2 times a day to stop mucus production and thickening.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I'm still wheezing and have chest tightness when I exhale for 10 weeks now. I take Dulera/Singulair/Xopenex and Spiriva and sometimes Combivent. Is there a med like theophylline that can help me? I'm also having bad sleep apnea and am crippled by this and can't work or think because of my lung diseases. Is my sleep apnea caused by asthma or narrowed airway?
Avatar n tn Do you also have a rescue medication? Some for of albuterol - ProAir, Proventil, Maxair, Ventolin, Xopenex and a few others. This is a necessity for when you have the shortness of breath (sob) feeling. Did the hospital tell you what to do about your potassium level? If you do not get that up, you could start having leg cramps. Advair and Symbicort can cause potassium and calcium levels to drop causing cramps. Take care and feel better.
Avatar f tn It is not generally prescribed for short-term use. Inhaled steroids carry substantial risk, especially for children. Ask about alternative treatments if the xopenex is not sufficiently helpful..
Avatar f tn my now 5 1/2 year old has been sick with a cold for a day or two. he takes nebulizer treatments on a daily basis, pulmicort and if needed, xopenex, he cardiac issues, asthma and narrowing if his throat. he has been on these medications since he was 5 weeks old.
1315759 tn?1274044788 or the breathing treatments? at the hospital, they give me xopenex, which works ok, not really good for me. the last time i went to the hospital, the therapist gave me atrovent and xopenex, with 4 doses in one. i told them it was making me too jittery, way more than normal and nobody listened. instead of getting better, it was staying the same and making me feel out of control. how can i get my doctor to prescribe me a pulse ox for at home?
