What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin?
I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do.
And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
It is difficult to say why there is such a variability (37-42% vs 60%) from your nuclear test and your echo and LV-gram that was done during your cath. However, all three of these tests use different modalities in determining ejection fraction - some are done via a calculation and others done just done visually. If the EF of 60% was reported during your cardiac cath (by a ventriculogram) - that would be the one I would rely on the most (as that has historically been the gold standard).
The goal of treatment is to control chest pain and to prevent heart attack. The pain is relieved by a medicine called nitroglycerin (dilates coronary vessels). You have been prescribed norvasc and that should relieve any chest pains. Norvasc is in a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. It dilates blood vessels and slows the heart to reduce blood pressure and the pain of angina. Calcium channel blockers may be needed long term. Medications may also include beta-blockers.
The same with his recent heart catherization was chest pressure. In the ER he was given 2 nitroglycerin, 5 minutes apart, the chest pressure went away after the 2nd nitroglycerin.
Does any good specialist in cardiology think that my husband should have the open heart surgery for bypasses considering the risks regarding his age, his diabetes?
I would appreciate very explanatory answers, easy to understand, what to do in my husband's situation.

the capsules as compound is impossible to do sublingually - unless it is made w/ ginger - or olive oil.
when they are mixed with cellulose it makes it almost impossible to do that.
If T4 is taken with food and it binds to protein or food, and is lost, why is it better to take Armour with food or shortly after, when Armour is a combination of T4 and T3? The directions on my prescription of 60mg states "To Be Taken on an Empty Stomach" Would you not lose some of or all of the T4 Content by taking it with or just after food?
My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low. My question is, why then am I responding to the nitroglycerin, it being a vasodilator (widens the blood vessels)??? Gastritis and GERD have been ruled out. the doctor thinks it could be anxiety then shouldn't they be giving me a sedative or relaxant as opposed to a vasodilator? I have a pending stress echo test in a couple of weeks and if this test is again normal...
s esophagus, GERD, gastic paralysis, fibromyalgi, chronic fatigue, Sicca syndrome, list goes on.....This is something new...sudden very severe shooting pain going up right side of neck, carotid area, sometimes into ear, but not always. Relieved with nitroglycerin. Any guesses as to what this could be?
If you are taking a nitroglycerin preparation, Viagra is NOT allowed. Do not use Viagra within 24 hours of the test. Nitro-glycerine (sometimes given during a stress test) may interact with Viagra, resulting in a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
Patients who are taking medications for lung problems, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure and Persantine may need to alter their medications.
If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
What is this about spitting out after you take a sub sublingually and that removes the Naloxone? And is this a medical truth/finding??
This may be a stupid question, but do I still need to wait to eat even if I take the ERFA sublingually? I would hazard a guess that the reason why I have to wait to eat when taking Levothyroxine is to ensure that my stomach is empty to ensure better absorption of the medicine, but since I take the ERFA sublingually and thus it doesn't enter my stomach, I don't need to wait.
Can you confirm this for me?
It's been quite awhile since you posted this, but I was just using the search area of medhelp and came across your post. I believe I have crest though I'm not officially diagnosed yet. My ana is 1:1280 in the anti-centromere pattern (centromere 5.5). I can't get back into the rheumy until July. I had elevated ana in the centromere pattern 2 years ago as well. I don't understand why they didn't diagnose me then. I didn't realize CREST is rare!
I still had stable angina every time I did some for of cardio activity or is I ate something with sodium. I started using Nitroglycerin patches and even have the pills just in case my angina episode occurs.
I had a date and I read online that you can't take viagra and any nitrates cause it can drop your blood pressure really low. So I stopped using my nitroglycerin for about 48 hours so I can take the Viagra.
Ativan is a drug usually given for to chemo patients for nausea. It's supposed to work for anxiety attacks. Also, Xanax works well. Coming from one who knows! Both can be used sublingually; let it dissolve under your tongue. It works in about 5 minutes.

If it ONLY has #3 on one side and nothing on the other, white and round, according to drugs.com, it is Nitroglycerin .3mg - however, it would be best to double check with your pharmacist - they'd be able to tell you for sure what it is.
Depending on how long the spasm last, one can have a heart attack related to it. This is why patients with this condition should always carry nitroglycerin with them at all times.
