I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea.
So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin?
If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
I think lovastatin is still used a lot. The drug companies always promote their newer, patented, more expensive drugs by saying they are more effective than the older drugs that are off patent and cheaper, so I tend to take that into account. The manufacturer of a newer drug may quote research to support the promotional argument, but who pays for the research to be done? Generally, it is the manufacturer of the drug that is being promoted.
After a trip to the ER, because of severe pain in my kidney area, they could not find a cause for this and sent me home with an injection of Dilaudid. I was fine, but after another Vytorin tablet the next evening the pain came back with a vengeance and I was done with Statins for the rest of my life.
Fatigue and lethargy are side effects of atenolol, however, I do not see any information suggesting that muscle weakness is a side effect of atenolol. I see that you also take Vytorin. It appears that symptoms of ALS,( Lou Gehrig's Disease) have been reported to the FDA in a higher than expected number of patients taking statins. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disorder with symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, difficulty with fine motor skills and muscle paralysis.
It sounds like you have familial high cholesterol. The only FDA approved drug that has had clinical trails is Crestor. It is a statin drug so you have to watch for muscle pain , fatigue with it. If you get any tell you doctor right away. Have they done a full lipid panel on you too? Diet only lowers your cholesterol by about 10%. So, it helps to not eat any extra cholestrol as your liver is what genetically controls the amount of receptors you are born with that break down cholesterol.
First, why are you taking Lipitor and Vytorin? Those are both "statins" and should never be taken together. You should stop one of these immediately. If you have had elevated CPK's it could be due to the statin and it is questionable whether you should be on one at all. Stop both of those medications and see your doctor immediately--bring your pill bottles. You need to get your medications straight before considering any testing.
But, at the end of all that about two years ago I wound up in the ER with severe kidney problems. The doctors said, don't worry about it, just muscle pains and sent me home. Since the pain (enough to climb the walls) started at night and I took the Vytorin at night, I concluded, it must be the Statins and I quit taking them and, just as I thought, no more pain. Now I am taking Crestor 5mg's because the cardiologist said, I should be taking them again.
Coreg can make a person feel extremely tired and loss of energy. Coreg is the best beta blocker as it blocks more receptors than Tropol XL. There is a medication that is being used in Europe that hopefully will be here in the US soon. It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states.
That vytorin study was very small, and included a very select type of cholesterol problems. I think it dealt with extremely high levels, like 3 or 4 hundred. My doc says to not pay any attention, until a much larger study is done.
In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot. Do you have a high level of inflammation in your body? There is a test for this. Do you have arthritis? It is great that you are eating no red meat. This will help a great deal. Do you eat lots of vegetables fresh and foods rich in omega 3? Omega 3 is great for the heart and keeps it healthy and slippery.

The foot had been slightly swollen prior to the hot shower on Thursday but after the extra hot shower his foot swelled up A LOT. That evening purple bruise like spots appeared along the bottom of the foot which had not been there previously.
He is 55 years old and oddly enough he's about 70 days shy of when his father died of a PE caused after a leg trauma.
He currently takes a baby asprin a day and Niacin, vytorin, and Tricore for cholesterol.
Just got new script for Synthroid combined with Cytomel and my Endo wants me to take the Synthroid and half the dose of the Cytomel in the morning and the rest of the Cytomel in the evening. My question is if there is anyone who has a similar script, do you take the evening dose before bed or before dinner?
