Common Questions and Answers about When to give antibiotics to infants

antibiotics

Avatar n tn Only small amounts are secreted into breastmilk and reports suggest that levels absorbed by infants are too low to produce effects. The book does suggest monitoring the infants thyroid function during therapy.

8628831 tn?1407267564 Mreeah I am a pediatric RN and when I got in to work in the morning I can see all the calls that came through the answering service we have overnight... You'd be shocked at why some people call their pediatrician in the middle of the night!
7757724 tn?1396279586 t pass on to her, with that being said, prepare for your little one to become extremely constipated when you switch to strictly formula and try different ones to see if you can get one that agrees well with baby's stomach. For my daughter, all she can handle is gerber gentle. The rest give her extreme gas and constipation.
Avatar f tn Its hard to know what the ins and outs of your relationship are to give you confidence in how you should handle it. Sometimes when someone pulls away, its what's best for them or you and its hard to not worry but you have to be okay with that.
Avatar n tn She hasn't been in the hospital or taken antibiotics, until now. Oh geeeshh. I put too much trust in doctors. I thought this would be the reason for the vomitting and the cure.
Avatar n tn s probably bacause the bacteria are resistent to antibiotics. You may need to swithch to another antibiotics. However, elimination of the source of infection is essential, which consists of endodontic treament or surgical procedure.
Avatar f tn t be anything your doc can do otherwise. There is nothing to be done for a normal stomach virus and antibiotics are only used for an infection which would have an accompanying fever. Just ride it out!

Avatar m tn None of them seem to relate to the closure of the windpipe and cant give me a straight answer when I ask them. Has anyone an answer or better still has anyone else had this problem.
1788489 tn?1329979448 http://www.thebody.com/content/63785/pre-chewed-food-may-pose-hiv-threat-to-infants.html I can't understand it cause we believe that food cannot transmit HIV. Is it because infants are much more susceptible than adults? Also, in oral sex the giver do have a theoretical minor risk, but is it a risk when hiv+ mom feed an infant at the breast, and why? Sincere thx for your answers.
Avatar f tn Dear Marie, Thanks for your response. I did less well on Synthroid than I do on generic levothyroxine, however my prescription is written to be filled from Mylan labs and no other to avoid the fluctuations common to various generics. I did not do well on T4 only and ONLY feel a difference with the administration of T3, and I cannot take a generic for that, it made my labs go crazy until I went back on Cytomel.
Avatar f tn We are on a tight budget and want to know when would it be okay to start buying things for the baby/nursery. We sort of want to start now instead of waiting until later and being slammed with everything at once but people are saying its too early. I know we will have a baby shower but big ticket items (crib, stoller, car seat etc) isn't in the budget for most of out family members. Thoughts?
Avatar f tn Pseudomonas is typically a very hard bacteria to kill and becomes drug resistant when antibiotics are used very often. My daughter had pseudomonas several months ago and had to have her ear swabbed and cultured. The pseudomonas was resistant to all the drug classses but the newest cyclosporin. She has had chronic ear infections since she was a baby (she's 13).
Avatar n tn When we started tracking CFS patients who were on antibiotics for chronic infections like Mycoplasma and Chlamydia, we noticed that after some period of time many of these patients complained that they had reached a plateau where the antibiotics were no longer affording them additional help in their recoveries. However, after they switched to other antibiotics, their recovery continued.
Avatar f tn Okay so I'm 22 and I been having trouble with bv since I was 18...Bv is a infection inside the vagina that causes discharge and a fishy odor. Trust me when I tell u it's embarrassing and something I don't like talking about but I have no idea what to do anymore.
Avatar f tn yes, that is a symptom of a bladder infection or urinary tract infection of which they will give you antibiotics for it. They also give you pills that help until the antibiotics kick in with the pain/burning. They turn your urine a funny color orange but definitely help with the discomfort. so, see a doctor asap. Either first thing tomorrow at your regular doctor/ob/gyn or at an urgent care today.
Avatar f tn 10) so the doctor told me that ususally WBC over 15 they do consider it bacterial infection and he told me if till tomorrow he remains fever free we will not give antibiotics and later when ESR came high 35 he said maybe you can start antibiotics for him! I am not a fan of antibiotics, so I took other opinion and doctor told me to wait till tomorro if the fever will not come back so don't give meds! I don't know now who should I listen to?
Avatar f tn If the doctor gave you an antibiotic without running any tests, they were negligent. You are not supposed to give antibiotics for viruses, because they won't work on them. And if you possibly have spinal meningitis, they should be testing you for that and seeing if it is viral or bacterial in nature. I believe it is typically accompanied with high fever. Meningitis can be life threatening, so if you still think you might have that get to the doctor ASAP!
Avatar n tn s new to me also that asthma causes a 103 degree fever! Asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around. When steroids are inhaled into the lungs to treat asthma it creates an immune suppression and can make the person more susceptible to infection. This is a scary thing for a mother not to mention your son and should be investigated further. I would recommend they refer you to a Immunologist, and have the level of antibodies your son has evaluated.
Avatar m tn There were no congenital abnormalities related to TDF nor HBV infection among their infants for up to 7 months of follow up.
Avatar f tn You hav nothing to worry about its actually fairly common they just send antibiotics theough your IV when your in labor ensuring it will be gone by the time the baby passes through. Im pretty sure it can cause pneumonia in infants. So thats why its an inportant test.
