namenda

Avatar n tn s is marked by a decrease in glucose in the brain (the primary source of food for the brain), Axona acts by providing/metabolizing glucose in the body to act as an alternate source of food for the brain. It is an FDA-regulated therapy and is the only Alzheimer's treatment which can be used in conjunction with a patient's current medication (e.g., Aricept, Namenda, etc.). For more information I'd advise you to visit www.about-axona.com. Hope this information was useful.
Avatar n tn No need to worry. I used to teach classes on different Alzheimer's Medical treatments/medicines and know these meds better than the reps that sold them. Namenda is an add on Alzheimer's medication use to help glutamate regulation in the brain. The standard dose in 20mg a day after titration, so taking three 5mg tablets is not a problem.
Avatar f tn Hi Saynono, After I read your post I did some searching and found some helpful articles. Thank you for sharing as I was not very familiar with this medication. The following is part of what Joseph K. Vaughan, Jr., M.D. opinion on this drug and similar ones in February of 2006. BEGIN "Since the early 1960’s more and more research has been devoted to the NMDA receptors in cell membranes and their involvement in pain as a way of blocking these harmful effects of calcium.
Avatar n tn I would discuss the side effects with the doctor if she is not getting any benefit and take her off. I know we tried my FIL on risperadil and he got worse so he came off after a couple weeks. The medications may benefit some, but not all - and certainly let the doctor know. BTW my father in law has similar affect in that he thinks everyone is conspiring, lying etc.
Avatar n tn Namenda is used to treat Alzheimer's dementia. This suggests a positive diagnosis for Alzheimers. Find out if this is so. Plavix is a controversial drug. It prevents clotting. It also increases the possibility of a stroke from a bleed. One question in my mind is whether he had a stroke which caused him to fall, or he fell and struck his head and sustained a concussion or bleed inside the brain which, in turn caused the dementia. You need to question his physicians.
Avatar n tn When I read how your mom was on Zoloft and Namenda - this is exactly what my dad is on so I thought I would ask you how your mom is/was doing. Did she stay on Risperdone? Thank you so much for your response.
585414 tn?1288941302 Yes I am somewhat familiar with that. For example Namenda which is used to treat dementia is in clinical study as a mood stabilizer and to treat tardive dyskinesia. However as those medications specifically effect those receptors by mitigating their activity they work in an opposite manner to glycine and the NMDA receptor modulates.
20003388 tn?1515166040 m just curious if anyone has been on Namenda and could tell me how long the initial brain fog lasted for you? I just started Namenda yesterday, 5 mg a day for 1 week then 10 mg a day in divided doses. I have memory issues and severe cognitive impairment. I was put on Namenda by a neurologist after a thorough examination. I expect the brain fog from starting Namenda up but am just trying to get a time frame for when I could expect the initial brain fog to wear off. Thanks everyone.
767538 tn?1276575320 hope the namenda helps) it REALLY helps with the depression and I would gladly do it again knowing what I know now.
Avatar f tn com/namenda-side-effects-drug-center.htm What dose is she on? Maybe adjusting her dose will decrease the dizziness. Talk to her doctor.
Avatar f tn When you can't sleep from the withdrawals, I've been told that Trazadone is a good choice for sleep because it isn't a controlled substance, etc. What is the story with this medication?
Avatar m tn Ativan is an anti-anxiety medication. Seroquel (the brand name for the other medication you speak of) is an antipsychotic and from what the prescription label states it should not be used in people who are elderly who have dementia but you could discuss this with a neurologist, in the meantime look up the medication website. Namenda is one of several medications that helped some family members I know who have dementia.
Avatar f tn Getting to the nut and gritty of the cognitive areas effected, what is or has caused it and immediate OT brain training etc would be the before steps i'd be taking, i'd really need the answers to the important questions because if its big deal stuff you need to know! Hugs.........
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for your response & sharing, and the information you provided. Is it possible that I don't have it? Is it possible to reverse it if I do? I am really scared. I read somewhere that you would need to be on a medication for about 3 months for it to trigger TD. I wasn't on the Vistaril that long -- 7 weeks, but the Trazadone I have been for about 3 months. How are you doing? I would like to talk more with you about it.
Avatar m tn You can find her posts in the archives, and she should be a good source for you. However, glutamate is considered largely for depression because it is stimulating to the brain, not calming. On the other hand, if you reduce glutamate and, presumably, one of its precursors, glutamine, you run the risk of muscle wasting. It is also involved with GABA production.
574118 tn?1305135284 5-HTP is what the body converts tryptophan into. There are a few other things tryptophan does than HTP-5 doesn't, in that HTP-5 only works as a secretion precursor. Tryptophan in low dose helped calm me, but I added DLPA, another amino that sent me manic. I stick with my lithium and high omega diet for now. Be careful with aminos, start at real low doses and try it awhile before taking more or new ones.
Avatar n tn The prescriptions you are talking about are Zoloft and Tradazone. Those are standard anti-depressents. However, I personally know about Aricept because I tried it for tardive dyskinesia and had a pretty poor response. My grandfather was prescribed Aricept for age related memory loss after a cardiovascular impairment. He couldn't tolerate it either. That doesn't mean at all its the wrong medication generally. Its just it has a fair amount of side effects for some people.
Avatar f tn thank you for the information. I expect there is nothing we can do for or about the condition as it is age related. Is there anything to watch out for?
Avatar f tn I do know that elderly relatives I have that were diagnosed with dementia improved with the medication Namenda. One issue the psychiatrist should look into is whether this behavior worsened when he was started on an anti-depressent because anti-depressents can worsen mania in a person with bipolar and what is generally used is a full mood stabilizer.
215752 tn?1278004771 Whatever you feel best at. The range is wide, but you are at the hypo side now. Could you feel the difference in the past? The longer you've had this the more you can tell the difference. Ask for copies of the bloodwork from now on to make notes on. Also, do you get free T4 and free T4 tested (need these), the actual thyroid hormones? TSH is a messenger hormone from the pituitary telling the thyroid what to do, not the best to adjust meds by.
