My wife was recently prescribed Memantine for headaches. She took 5mg nightly for 4 days and during that time she still had a headache, but no side effects. On the 5th day the headaches stopped, but now she's constantly nauseous and woozy. This has been going on for 4 days. Is this just a matter of her body adjusting to the drug?

I have tried many different ocd drug therapies, but have yet to try a glutamate modulating therapy such as Memantine (Namenda), Riluzole (Rilutek), N-acetyl cysteine, or amantadine. If anyone has information on or experience with any of the above medications, would you please share that with me? I am desperate.

my husband just started on Namenda, starter doses, however, while I was at work today, he took 3 of the pills(5mg), should I be concerned? do I just have him continue tomorrow with the correct one pill in the morning? doesn''t seem to have any side effects.
I need the bupropion for the anxiety associated with Nystagmus, but I know it causes blurred vision and convergence problems. Should I even bother to try memantine? Thanks.
I, like many of you, take handfuls of drugs just to live thru the day and suffer side effects from the drugs is just as debilitating as the pain. My doctor allowed me to try Namenda, which is a alzheimer drug that works by calming overactive neurons in the brain. There has been studies to see if it helped chronic pain and most of them showed it did not. I wanted to try it for myself and she allowed me too. My shrink also thought it was a good idea to try.
My mom's medication regeime has had risperdal added to it. She is alteady on zoloff and the standards for alzeheimer's including namenda. Since putting her on the risperdal she sleeps all the time, has had a to be restarted on blodd pressure medication and seems to be losing her mtor skills.
I am very concened about these changes and wonder if the risperdal is the right dosage or medicine.
My neighbors doctor prescribed fluoxetine and namenda before MRI being done.test came back no signs of alzheimers disease. Should she continue to take ? She is 80 years old somewhat forgetful nothing to make you say you can't function she is 80.

Seroquel (the brand name for the other medication you speak of) is an antipsychotic and from what the prescription label states it should not be used in people who are elderly who have dementia but you could discuss this with a neurologist, in the meantime look up the medication website. Namenda is one of several medications that helped some family members I know who have dementia. It would be best to consult with a neurologist and discuss all this with them.
What could be causing me to have all of them. I am under pretty good control as I take neurontin and namenda. Before I was put on namenda i was having rhizotomies almost every three months due to the excruciating pain.
I was diagnosed with congenital idiopathic nystagmus due to my prominent vestibulo-cochlear reflex as a kid. A few years ago I was having pain in my legs and trouble sleeping and thought that my nystagmus was due to an underlying condition like fibromyalgia and told my doctor about my concern and a muscle biopsy revealed that I did have fibromyalgia. The pain is not that bad and my insomia is gone.

2006 – Sleep study. Overnight oxygen 80%. Given a CPAP machine.
2007 Start thyroid and adrenal treatments.
2008 Calcium 9.4.
Nov 2009 Ionized Calcium 5.1. Pth 46. Taking vitamin D. Did this test on my own. Suspect lab.
Dec 2009. Calcium 10.0. Cortisol 3.3 (L) Free T4 1.24 TSH <.01
2010 – Tooth pulled. Bone / root resorbption.
2010 – Added T3 therapy.
my grandfather wantws to put her on namenda,we tried it for a few weeks, but I saw3 her only become more hostile!! do you think a person at her age is really going to benefit from namenda at this stage?
I do know that elderly relatives I have that were diagnosed with dementia improved with the medication Namenda. One issue the psychiatrist should look into is whether this behavior worsened when he was started on an anti-depressent because anti-depressents can worsen mania in a person with bipolar and what is generally used is a full mood stabilizer.
First of all his doctor changed and titrated his blood pressure medications and also they found Namenda to be quite helpful.
I have had migraines since I was 13, and despite every neuro med had either done absolutely nothing for me or I have to go the ER for severe adverse side effects. The last med I tried was Namenda...and another ER visit. Also, what advise can you advise for the Pain Management Clinic, and what questions should I ask...pros and cons, etc.
