Common Questions and Answers about What is the drug asacol used for

asacol

Avatar m tn i have stopped taking it from that time. even though the dosage was only taken for short periods with breaks, can i still take the asacol for my condition.
Avatar m tn This is a clear criminal act. How come FDA is not allowing the safe to use Mesalazine Enema, which has been used for years in Europe and Canada? I am not certain how I can spread the word so that all UC patients who are suffering can get benefited. Please spread the word and let CCFA know that this drug needs to be made available in US. I have to buy it from UK or Canada at my own expenses. This is outrageous when I am paying so much for insurance. Please advise.
Avatar n tn , which is water-permeable and allows outward diffussion of the payload without any change in the capsule. If the drug is a tablet and is excreted the same size it was ingested in, then you might have a problem. This is all in general, the formulation of your Asacol may differ. I'm sure a pharmacist will have more experience with cases like this.
Avatar f tn t been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar m tn how do you get a $25 card thingy for the lialda? my asacol is like almost 700 a month!
Avatar m tn I woke up and was told that I had an absolutely beautiful large intestine. The biopsies also came back normal. So my question here is what the hell? If there is no active disease will a biopsy come back with a normal result? If this is not Crohn's then what are the differentials. I also often have an itchy spot around my anus, bright red streaks of blood on occasion due to over whiping or hemmoroids and frequent canker sores in my mouth. Thanks for any help offered.
Avatar n tn for moderate to severe illness i think steroid is better for control... dont think too much about the category in which the drug falls. go by your ob decision.
Avatar f tn I checked the drug you mentioned and it is approved by the FDA here, but I did not find the drug being used for crohns. However, it seems that the same drugs that are being used for arthritis are also the same drugs being used for crohns. I had my doctor find me another Gastro Dr. and its a female and her credentials are excellent and she has only been in practice nine years. Perfect, I think, since I find the older doctors so unwilling to try out new options.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn There is also another option which is called Vyanase or something like that. It is the same medication but it is bound to Lysine and only gets absorbed in the small intestines--that way there is no "speedy" reaction to it. Also, I have been told that Abraxane is easier on the gut; you may qualify for this drug depending on your status and issues. Please ask your doctor. Let me know what you learn and please stay in touch.
Avatar f tn Did your doctor mention a colonoscopy? What does your doctor say? A lot of conditions should have been ruled out by the CT scans especially when done with contrast.
Avatar f tn Doc wants me to start Asacol but the side effects seem worse than my mild diarrhea. Question is, should I take the anti-inflammatory to try and stop the autoimmune process? The rheumy thinks this could progress to Crohn's, Colitis or autoimmune hepatitis someday. Has anyone out there had issues taking Asacol? I'm thinking about consulting a naturopathic doctor.
1869943 tn?1322654497 Yes pranayam is part of yog. It is the duration of the pranayam(breathing technique) that is important and builds up the immune system. So you need to do kapalbhati for 30 minutes, twice a day. When UC is active, do it very gently.
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
Avatar m tn The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info...I was getting too anxious for the Asacol to work as this is day 5. I was worried that it could be Crohns Disease as My Brother died from Crohns. My Dr. said my Blood Markers did not show for Crohns...however, I am waiting on test results for Celiac. I appreciate your time, Thank You.
Avatar m tn I think the real name of what I have is microscopic ulcerative colitis. I get really bad kidney pain from the Asacol so they switched me to Apriso and I just took as many pills (up to 4 max) a day as I could tolerate. Had to balance a fine line between feeling ill from my disease and feeling ill from the meds but recently (last 3 weeks) I have been able to take the full dose every day without any pain so I guess my body adjusted to the medicine. See your doc and keep your head up.
Avatar f tn After many tests and colonoscopies I was hospitalised and immediately given steroid treatment, I was then put on Asacol and 6-mp. I was ok and on the road to recover for some time after this however I have had 3 relapses since 2 of which have been this year alone and to date I have had 5 courses of steroids. My doctor increased my 6-mp which as caused my hair to fall out. I am now back on steroids and about to start a 12 week course of Methotrexate injections.....
Avatar n tn I came across some soma and really do not know what it is for. is it a narcotic? is it addictive?
