aricept

338416 tn?1420045702 The only two things that are a little weird that I can definitely say is the drug - my dreams are now a lot more vivid and detailed. I used to have vivid dreams all the time, but in the last three years, they've been kinda grayed out and boring. I also get a feeling of 'high-resolution' in the moiré behind my eyes, as if the details are turned up a notch. So I think the results are worth the mild side effects.
Avatar m tn Is the person having memory problems? If not, why are they taking it? There are lots of drugs that have "off label" uses for lots of drugs so perhaps it was prescribed for something else. The doctor can probably let you know what that is and why it's being used. I don't think it will hurt, but there are side effects in every med and it would be a good idea to check drug interactions, etc. Try Drugs.com. If you cannot speak to the patient's doc, can you call your own?
Avatar n tn This should be started only on prescription of your treating physician. It is used for treatment of Alzheimer’s, but is helpful for short term memory loss. Aricept is a drug of choice to treat Alzheimer's, but its use is not restricted. It has been observed that Aricept improves cognition and function, which includes effects on memory and performing everyday tasks, hence it would have been prescribed. The effect of memory is exerted through one such chemical called acetylcholine.
704043 tn?1298056844 I highly recommend it. I guess the question is at this point - would I have gotten over the cog fog without the Aricept? Or did it help me form new pathways in the brain?
900662 tn?1469390305 After discussion with MS Neuro and my wife , we agreed that I should start Aricept , it is used mostly for Alzheimer, so its off label and he says it has shown great results. I do have a damaged working memory and slower processing speed, cognitive impairment effects every day in some small way. I won't reveal to any other family or friends that I ve stated this med, I just think I would feel self-conscious about people looking for my errors and mistakes.
Avatar f tn Like last night I dreamed one of my friends was sitting on the side of the highway counting only green frogs with yellow stripes. She counted double for the ones that got squished trying to get out of the way of traffic. When I asked her why she was doing this, she just smiled. Perhaps its the med combination?
Avatar f tn s not something that is easy to hear. Something that also may slow the progression is working the memory. When you are visiting, bring up old memories and re-live them. Do memory games. Work on puzzles. Read the newspaper or books. Work on hand-eye coordination by thossing a ball around. These things help, but there is nothing that will completely stop the progression. I'm very sorry, I know it is discouraging.
649926 tn?1297657780 I think out of all the drugs out there, Aricept is the best one for strictly cognitive problems. I've been taking it for four (five?) months now, and I've definitely noticed improvements in my short term memory and attention span. I feel safer driving to work, and I can remember phone numbers and keep track of change at the grocery store. The only real side effect I've noticed is long, vivid, but boring dreams.
246236 tn?1275478902 t want to just assume every little improvement is the Aricept talking! BUT, yesterday morning I completed a crossword puzzle for the first time in I don't know how long. I was so surprise when I did that I did another one right after (I have an app on my smartphone) to see if it was a fluke. And I completed that one too! Since then I've completed quite a few! By the way, I have tons of trouble with sleep too so it's probably not the greatest idea for me to take it at night.
Avatar n tn The prescriptions you are talking about are Zoloft and Tradazone. Those are standard anti-depressents. However, I personally know about Aricept because I tried it for tardive dyskinesia and had a pretty poor response. My grandfather was prescribed Aricept for age related memory loss after a cardiovascular impairment. He couldn't tolerate it either. That doesn't mean at all its the wrong medication generally. Its just it has a fair amount of side effects for some people.
429700 tn?1308007823 m sorry the copaxone is no longer working for you - good luck in deciding on the next treatment. If you have tysabri questions, cosmobirdy is happy to chat with you by PM. She has been on ty about 3 years now. There's very little I know about aricept- hopefully someone else around here will be able ot add to the conversation. Good luck with the next appt - we'll be waiting to hear the update.
338416 tn?1420045702 At this point the accomodation needed is the ability to pay for the Aricept. Most employers know when a previously effective employee is struggling. In the face of a better explanation there is often an assumption of drug or alcohol abuse. In general, if performance is being affected by a job, I am in favor of telling the employer just to get that off the table. When you tell the boss it is best that you also put it in writing and hand it to him during the meeting.
Avatar n tn It is still on trial ,the 3rd trial is coming up, it has been tested at Aberdeen University in the UK,I have heard it will be approved and on the market in 1- 2years, I have a relative showing early signs and I went to the site,I put' Remba' in and there is information there ,it sounds like the best break through yet, I feel very hope.fulIt also states that people who have it severly find some improvement .
338416 tn?1420045702 Keep us posted--this is encouraging news. The Provigil is helping for the fatigue and actually helps with cognition, but I still have Teflon Brain. I've been on estrogen for a long time, and it hasn't done anything for this. Maybe your stomache issues will settle when your body gets used to the drug (fingers crossed).
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn Hello. It is important for you to decide if the symptoms are due to early onset Alzheimer's disease or the cyst. The symptoms due to the Alzheimer’s disease are more related to cognition, memory, etc. A cyst may produce similar symptoms, but it is usually an acute or sub acute finding. In all probabilities, your cyst is an incidental finding when the MRI was done. Alzheimer's disease is the one you should focus on. Aricept is a good drug.
Avatar m tn How long does it take to be off of the drug before it goes away? Another accompanying symptom I have is lightheadedness 24/7. It gets worse when I go from sitting to standing. I've done some research into what could be causing the ridgidity and so far from what I've gathered Baclofen could be an effective treatment option to treat the ridgidiy if symptoms continue, but I honestly have no idea.
Avatar f tn I have been taking aricept for about 9 months. It is hard to tell if there is an improvement. It has been a while since I forgot my way home but I still forget a lot of little stuff. I keep taking it because I am convinced it cant hurt anything and it just might help a little.
359574 tn?1328360424 I have to say, it definitely made a difference. When I ran out, I waited for the cog fog to come back so I could tell whether it was the Aricept - and it did. So I got a prescription, and took it for five months. Each time I ran out, I waited until the fog returned, then got my script refilled. When the fog stayed away, I stopped taking it. I don't know how long it would have taken without the Aricept - but it really seemed to help clear the fog.
333021 tn?1207759633 All I had written this on Tahiri's thread but thought maybe it was important for more people to see. I can't believe that I actually copied and pasted it with success.. :) I started speech therapy for cognitive issues two wks ago . I have all the troubles everyone mentioned above . I also have great difficulty speaking concepts.. or what I'm thinking ..
Avatar m tn Hi there.. I haven't used this med... the neuro is working on getting the right meds for me, but I don't think he thinks my speech is that bad... I might not agree with him..but then..
Avatar n tn I came across some soma and really do not know what it is for. is it a narcotic? is it addictive?
Avatar n tn Oh, btw, neurontin and baclofen are the usual medication for spasticity and neuropathic pain - Lyrica is a newer drug that they've had success with. You might try that and see if it's any better.
Avatar f tn A good idea would be to find out if they interract together well, does your wife have any side effects if she feels okay then dont rock the boat,The pharmasist at your drug store may be able to help telling you more, he will put them in hisPC to check.
Avatar f tn thank you for the information. I expect there is nothing we can do for or about the condition as it is age related. Is there anything to watch out for?
