338416 tn?1420045702 The only two things that are a little weird that I can definitely say is the drug - my dreams are now a lot more vivid and detailed. I used to have vivid dreams all the time, but in the last three years, they've been kinda grayed out and boring. I also get a feeling of 'high-resolution' in the moiré behind my eyes, as if the details are turned up a notch. So I think the results are worth the mild side effects.
Avatar m tn Is the person having memory problems? If not, why are they taking it? There are lots of drugs that have "off label" uses for lots of drugs so perhaps it was prescribed for something else. The doctor can probably let you know what that is and why it's being used. I don't think it will hurt, but there are side effects in every med and it would be a good idea to check drug interactions, etc. Try Drugs.com. If you cannot speak to the patient's doc, can you call your own?
Avatar n tn This should be started only on prescription of your treating physician. It is used for treatment of Alzheimer’s, but is helpful for short term memory loss. Aricept is a drug of choice to treat Alzheimer's, but its use is not restricted. It has been observed that Aricept improves cognition and function, which includes effects on memory and performing everyday tasks, hence it would have been prescribed. The effect of memory is exerted through one such chemical called acetylcholine.
704043 tn?1298056844 It's used to treat cognitive impairment with Alzheimer's. I'm not sure why the drug works for MS patients... It was like when you have low water pressure in the house, so you turn the water up higher. It was kinda like that - I wasn't processing with all my brain, but the parts that were working, were working overtime.
900662 tn?1469390305 After discussion with MS Neuro and my wife , we agreed that I should start Aricept , it is used mostly for Alzheimer, so its off label and he says it has shown great results. I do have a damaged working memory and slower processing speed, cognitive impairment effects every day in some small way. I won't reveal to any other family or friends that I ve stated this med, I just think I would feel self-conscious about people looking for my errors and mistakes.
338416 tn?1420045702 s office recommended I see her for a possible medication interaction causing my seizures... well, as you can guess, there is no medication interaction. My PCP, who's a nice intelligent grandma-type, thought this was an issue for the neurologist. She also gave me a sample of an inhaler for asthma, although so far it hasn't helped my shortness of breath. So I called the neurologist up, and surprisingly there was an opening that afternoon!
Avatar f tn They say now that Aricept binds receptors that would otherwise heal, so it's not good for MS - it's specifically for Alzheimer's. My new neuro was horrified when she learned I had been on it for five months. I don't know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense.
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking 10mg of Aricept for 2 years now and I have not noticed any significant difference in his memory. Actually, my observation is his memory is becoming worse. I'm struggling with whether I should discontinue the medication since I don't see improvement and because it is quite costly. I also know Aricept is designed to slow down the dementia so if I discontinue it I'm wondering if he will become worse much faster.
649926 tn?1297657780 We have had several excellent discussions going about cognitive decline vs. physical decline. Now my questions for all of you is, who is on medication for the cognition? Please take a minute to tell us what you are on and what your opinion of the medication is. Is it helping? How bad if at all are the side effects? I have an appt. on 12/22 and want to request to be put on SOMETHING for this mental decline but I have no experience with "these" meds.
246236 tn?1275478902 Everywhere I have ever worked as a charge nurse, director of nursing or administrator we have scheduled aricept at 8pm unless physician specifically wrote order for am dose. It used to make my dad light headed/dizzy and really off balance at first.
Avatar n tn The prescriptions you are talking about are Zoloft and Tradazone. Those are standard anti-depressents. However, I personally know about Aricept because I tried it for tardive dyskinesia and had a pretty poor response. My grandfather was prescribed Aricept for age related memory loss after a cardiovascular impairment. He couldn't tolerate it either. That doesn't mean at all its the wrong medication generally. Its just it has a fair amount of side effects for some people.
429700 tn?1308007823 The doctor says that Copaxone is failing me and a new drug should be considered. He mentioned Rebif and even Tysabri. He said that he's setting up a new infusion center close to where I live which open in January. I mentioned being TB positive--which he did not comment on. He was in the process of moving me to his office, but a failure in the computer system happened. He was going to go over the MRI with me and discuss the other medicines afterwards.
338416 tn?1420045702 At this point the accomodation needed is the ability to pay for the Aricept. Most employers know when a previously effective employee is struggling. In the face of a better explanation there is often an assumption of drug or alcohol abuse. In general, if performance is being affected by a job, I am in favor of telling the employer just to get that off the table. When you tell the boss it is best that you also put it in writing and hand it to him during the meeting.
Avatar n tn I have not been succesful in my search. I know it is either on research stages, or possibly in use in England. My mom suffers from this lewy body dementia, and i wish there was something more effective out there other than aricept or exelon... If anyone knows anything about REMBA, please drop me a line.... I thank you and good luck to you ,or your loved one!
338416 tn?1420045702 That is wonderful news. I'm glad everything is working out for you but I hope you don't get any of the side effects. Go ahead and play..why not?
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar m tn Zofran has been shown to work experimentally as well as the natural remedy rhodiola (when taken under the supervision of a neurologist). Clonidine is patch form is markedly helpful for me as well as a person with advanced tardive dyskinesia in addition to some of the other treatments mentioned. But have a neurologist who is a movement disorders specialist confirm it first.
Avatar f tn Hello. It is important for you to decide if the symptoms are due to early onset Alzheimer's disease or the cyst. The symptoms due to the Alzheimer’s disease are more related to cognition, memory, etc. A cyst may produce similar symptoms, but it is usually an acute or sub acute finding. In all probabilities, your cyst is an incidental finding when the MRI was done. Alzheimer's disease is the one you should focus on. Aricept is a good drug.
Avatar f tn I have been taking aricept for about 9 months. It is hard to tell if there is an improvement. It has been a while since I forgot my way home but I still forget a lot of little stuff. I keep taking it because I am convinced it cant hurt anything and it just might help a little.
333021 tn?1207759633 All I had written this on Tahiri's thread but thought maybe it was important for more people to see. I can't believe that I actually copied and pasted it with success.. :) I started speech therapy for cognitive issues two wks ago . I have all the troubles everyone mentioned above . I also have great difficulty speaking concepts.. or what I'm thinking ..
Avatar m tn Hi there.. I haven't used this med... the neuro is working on getting the right meds for me, but I don't think he thinks my speech is that bad... I might not agree with him..but then..
Avatar n tn I came across some soma and really do not know what it is for. is it a narcotic? is it addictive?
Avatar f tn A good idea would be to find out if they interract together well, does your wife have any side effects if she feels okay then dont rock the boat,The pharmasist at your drug store may be able to help telling you more, he will put them in hisPC to check.
Avatar n tn Oh, btw, neurontin and baclofen are the usual medication for spasticity and neuropathic pain - Lyrica is a newer drug that they've had success with. You might try that and see if it's any better.
338416 tn?1420045702 I think that's exactly what happened to me - I was in a fog for a long time. I asked for a script for Aricept, got it, and was on that for three months. It felt very much like the Aricept gave my brain enough 'power' to jump over the holes. After a while, it was more like the brain knew how to navigate around the holes.
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking Bupropion HSL SR 150mg for a few months and it doesn't seem to be working as well as the Bupropion XL 150mg he was taking for a few years before he was switched because, the pharmacy said, they could not get the Bupropion XL 150mg at that time. My husband has dementia. He takes the Bupropion in the morning along with his Aricept and Exforge (for blood pressure). He gets drowsy right after taking his pills and I think it may be the Bupropion HSL SR causing this.
