I have been using Humulin R and just started using humulog in combination with this to try and put weight back on , lost about 25lbs . I seem to be having trouble with the humulog . I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.
Avatar f tn I am a diabetic on insulin I am 11wks today I was scared at first but what get me through is knowing this is what I have to do for my little one and myself that is what get me through it good luck
Avatar n tn I decided to try giving my shots in my rear and I have had a lot of success...and the insulin is absorbed better there for me because I do a lot of walking and bending to pick things up. I also remember this happening when I was younger to my arms and that's why my doctors had me move to my stomach...too much built up in my arms and the needle just wasn't long enough to get the insulin through. I know sometimes the butt is hard to reach, but the thighs are a good place to try as well.
233382 tn?1193658141 t so much the occasional high level, but how long it is left high and how often this happens. The a1c is the best test of overall control, and your son is close to the goal level. For some, going to pump therapy seems to be the best way to keep the sugar levels stable, while for others there are other insulin regimens that work best. I am not a medical professional -- I am a long-time type 1 diabetic, diagnosed at about the same age as your son.
Avatar f tn The Lantus / insulin glargine is a very good well-tolerated product. The injections are painless. It is often prescribed together with metformin.
Avatar m tn I had much better control when I was using humuln n and humulin r . I am now taking lantus and novolog .I have had to increase my dosages and am still having a hard time getting control of my blood sugars. My aic is 7.8 this quarter vs 8. last quarter. should I go back to using the older drugs that gave me better control?
209227 tn?1242346745 hi i think the only slight difference is thaat humalog is slightly faster to act and be absorbed but they are exactly the same otherwise x
Avatar f tn what are the food that has high carb? do rice and bread contain large portion of carbs? my doctor never told me about that so I have been living that way for almost 10 years...it s not until now I discovered this "carb counting" thingy...
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Insulin glargine is also known as Lantus. Lantus, just like all insulins, can stimulate the body into causing fat production, so it is possible to gain weight on Lantus.
Avatar m tn Humalog is a fast acting insulin. Typically it is taken before meals - up to 15 minutes before (not after) to match the amount of carbs eaten. It's duration of action is 3 - 5 hours, with most of the action in the first 2 hours. You need to work out a carb:insulin ratio (ie. how much Humalog you need to cover how much carbs/ protein). If you are going low overnight (how low?), then you need to be taking a lower dose of Humalog with your evening meal. What time do you eat dinner?
Avatar n tn My ObGyne stopped the metformin and put me on Duphaston. I had a scan and the featus measured 6 weeks and 3 days and we heard a heartbeat. He seemed surprised that I didn't have nausea by now. Should I be worried? Btw I have pcos.
Avatar n tn I feel like I should be able to go to a drugstore and purchase any type of insulin that I choose without a prescription.
Avatar n tn Being a scientist I finally took matters into my own hands. I stopped using Humalog and just bought Humulin at the drug store (Warning!not recommended unless you've been trained) and got my sugars back to a normal, stable level minimizing the standard deviation. It took my a couple of years to recover, but the moment I made the change back, I felt normal again. It ruined my career due to my inability to control the Humalog induced fluctuations due to normal life situations.
Avatar n tn The only other difference is that he takes NPH at the same time as Humalog in the am and does not take NPH at the dinner meal. The other difference I have noted is that readings 70 and below occur more often at the noon reading than at any other time. My suspicion is that the NPH taken in the morning delays the action of the morning Humalog thus causing a higher reading at 9:30 am. and an inordinately low reading at noon since both Humalog and NPH are active then.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to google this and find out what I can in the difference between these 2 areas as far as where lesions present in different areas. So far I have only become more confused. Thank you in advance.
Avatar n tn My bf has been changes to Lantis one time at bedtime. It seem that he may be doing very well on it. The concern I have is about using Humulin R as your mealtime shot. I'm having trouble with how to know his carbohydrate-insulin ratio. I think I'm goind to start at 12 carbs/ 1 unit...Does this sound like a reasonable place to start? Also, what would be a good website to read up on this?
Avatar n tn You didn't mention where you were putting the sites. Novolog and Humalog are what we call *designer insulins* - not quite the same as Regular Insulin, but derived from it. Which is obvious since they act within 15 minutes or less. The main difference I've found between the two is in the preservative used .... some people have an allergic reaction to to the Humalog preservative and Novolog works better (and vice versa).
Avatar n tn For me, a major benefit of switching from NPH to Lantus has been the reduced variability in action. And delivery via the Humalog pen appears to be very consistent.
696943 tn?1229366600 Does anyone know the difference between Bipolar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder?
Avatar n tn My whole body starts swelling up after weeks of Humulin N shots starting from the feet and legs. I am very sure this is the cause because the swelling subsides and my body will return to normal if I stop my injections. Please help.
Avatar n tn There is a big difference in the action of humalog 50/50 compared to regular. You should really only change your medication with the supervision and guidance of your doctor. Please do discuss this with your doctor.
387767 tn?1345872027 Just wondering, what's the difference between the Weight Loss and the Dieting communities? I never know where to post.
Avatar n tn Hello Geek, I didn't see your msg until today and hope I can be of some help to you. I'm not a physician, but I have been a pumper for ~9 years and have had DM for ~35. When I starated pumping, the only insulins available were "Regular" insulin and the main difference, as you know, is "how quickly" the insulin starts working, when it peaks and how long it lasts. Regular normally kicks in later than Novolog or Humalog will.
Avatar f tn Is he getting good results with the doses he is using? That is what matters and is a lot better determinant of whether the dose is correct than weight. If he stays within target range with infrequent highs or lows than it is working. In general the bolus dose (Humalog) will influence the blood sugar two hours after the meal and the basal (lantus) will influence the bg in between meals. You can also fast and do basal testing.
Avatar f tn My best way to describe the baby movement (early movement) have you ever felt a gold fish swim in a bag of water?!?! That light swooshing is simular to the baby moving. Also when a fish pecks at the bag is simular to the kicks! I alway been able to feel the baby by laying on my belly (at this point of pregnancy it won't hurt baby)! If you lay on your belly and feel that fish movement you will know if it's gas or movement when you are not laying on your belly!
