Common Questions and Answers about What is terbinafine used for

lamisil

Avatar m tn I also use a hairdryer, do not share towels with anyone, and have used Lamisil (Terbinafine) for 2 weeks as of today. I change my underwear once per day though, but I avoid sweating or walking much during the day as much as possible. And apply talcum powder on my groin every 2-3 hs during the day. That's all I've been doing and as I wrote, the skin at first sight looks back to normal, BUT if I see it from an angle, I can still see the circles where the jock itch used to be........
Avatar n tn Most treatments are either systemic antifungal medications such as terbinafine and itraconazole, or topical such as nail paints containing ciclopirox or amorolfine. There is also evidence for combining systemic and topical treatments for effective results. A 2002 study compared the efficacy and safety of terbinafine in comparison with placebo, itraconazole and griseofulvin in treating fungal infections of the nails.
Avatar m tn Please Help me. i had red, itchy, swell penis forehead last year & i gone to doctor and he tested me for HIV 1&2 antibodies, VDRL, HERPES simplex virus 1&2 IGG-IGM & TSH and all test came normal (negative). Avatar n tn For severe disease, keratolytics such as salicylic acid or coal tar preparations may be used to remove dense scale. Topical terbinafine solution (1%) has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of scalp seborrhoea,as may lotions containing alpha hydroxy acids or corticosteroids (such as fluocinolone acetonide). Pimecrolimus topical lotion is also sometimes prescribed.
Avatar n tn If the symptoms persist then oral antifungals may be needed. For that you need to consult a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar n tn I went to see a general practitioner and he said it is balanatis. He prescribed 2mg of Tinizadole which reading about I found it is NOT used for fungus problems. Do not know if I should go ahead and take it. He did nor presctibe anything else and said one dos will likely suffice...
1652119 tn?1301725969 Dear Doctor Thanks for the time and effort you gave ! ! It's Tinea Barbae for sure ; as I've been taking Terbinafine 250 mg po for past 2 wks and the symptoms have dropped by at least 50 % ! ! Topical antifungals have had no effect.
Avatar f tn You may have a yeast infection but it may be resistant strain to the medicines they have in the stores. See if they have one without Azole at the end. If they have a vaginal Terbinafine that would work (but if it is only for athletes foot don't use it). Otherwise you will have to get a culture done from the doctor to see what it is.
Avatar m tn I used the cream Lamisil on my face before reading the instructions. Lamisil has the ingredient Terbinafine hydrochloride which I thought I needed for a condition I have but before I read the warning I used it. It states not to use on or near the mouth. After use I saw my lips get very white and after a couple of days it seemed like the top thin layer of skin came off: painless. I know its my fault for not reading the box but now my lips get very dry. They turn to an off-white color.

Avatar m tn Basically Itraconazole is more wide spectrum and less toxic than ketoconazole and has been hence used for a variety of fungal infections chief being aspergillus, blastomycosis, sporotrichosis, histoplasmosis, and onychomycosis and ketoconazole is often used for Candida, Histoplasma, Coccidioides, and Blastomyces (although it is not active against Aspergillus).
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn I thought it was ring worm but I've tried many antifungals and the skin hasn't changed. Econazole and terbinafine and clotrimazole seem to not change anything? It's not really itchy, skin is lighter and slightly pink on arms and darker on neck and behind shoulders. I have attached a link to some images. https://drive.google.
Avatar f tn If it is dry and flaky and itchy then nummular eczema is an important possibility. The damp skin is an ideal site for fungi to multiply. So you should wear cotton socks and change them twice a day and do not share other people’s towels. Application of local antifungal cream(terbinafine, clotrimazole, econazole, ketoconazole, miconazole) and oral antifungal drugs are the mainstay of treatment. You can consult a pharmacist and get any cream or lotion containing these ingredients.

Avatar f tn So, I went on with her directions and took the terbinafine for 10 days and used the desonate for 14 days. The rash did go away for a little while but came back even before I had finished the full treatment of terbinafine (I did in fact go ahead and finish the full 10 days). I went back to the doctor for a follow up and she wanted to take a biopsy which may in fact leave a scar (which I really do not want). She also suggested that this may be a reaction from the use of the steroids.
