Are you on O2 with activity? It sounds like you should be evaluated for it. Ask your doctor for an oximeter test with walking to see how much you drop. At 84, you easily would qualify for O2 with exercise. It might be worth looking at nights as well, people with severe lung disease can drop their levels very low at night as well requiring O2 during sleep as well. Yes, it is possible to be diagnosed so late in life but not all too common. I was dx'd at 33 yrs old because of digestive problems and then they took a look at my lung issues as well. For my pseudomonas (did the docs ever culture your sputum? If not, have them do that so that you know what is growing in there. If it is pseudo, then there are meds that can be given to help decrease the colonies), I nebulize tobramycin on a 28 day on/28 day off schedule. I would talk to the docs to see if any of these meds are an option for you. I hope this helps..
