Common Questions and Answers about What is provigil used to treat

provigil

Avatar m tn Once the physician and patient are satisfied that these and any other culprits have been ruled out, then it makes a lot of sense to look at meds like Provigil to treat what has been accurately diagnosed as true, primary MS fatigue. Perhaps you've already been through all of this with your doc and you know what you're dealing with. If so, hopefully you get some relief from Provigil or similar med, and hopefully this advice is helpful to someone else reading this post.
Avatar m tn your doctor should step up to the plate and go to bat for you. Not sure what your insurance co is talking about "treating side effects of other meds"..... there are many different "rescue" drugs used to treat the side effects from the HCV treatment drugs. whatever it takes to keep you on the treatent meds. some of these meds are anti-depressants, sleep meds, itching meds, etc, etc. did you do a 4 week test? anyway best of luck to you.
398059 tn?1447945633 I know that Provigil today. It is nice to have good nsurance again. I hope it will give me some energy again. Not sure but, I seem to have had more energy to day already after only one pill. But, that might have been my hopes more than the medication. Anyone else have a memory of their first dose and energy effects. How about the first week?
Avatar f tn the doctor i used to work for would take provigil all the time as an "upper." my mom (she is nurse who worked for him too) and i swear he was addicted to it. then he would take ambien/lunesta to go to sleep. all of the provigil and ambien/lunesta samples would always be gone from the drug room at the office i worked at and they were not going to the patients...

Avatar m tn Meds can be a good help but therapy is what can help you get to the root of what is increasing your anxiety levels. You mentioned that you are going through a rough time, I would look into speaking with a therapist if you haven't already.
Avatar f tn t wait until late in the day to decide you need it. Then you could be up half the night. Provigil is supposed to work on the sleep/wake center of the brain and not cause generalized excitement. Also, it helps with fatigue but is in no way a substitute for getting enough rest. I wonder if it takes us longer to recover from jet lag? Everything else takes longer.
1710955 tn?1309446473 These days I won’t even allow the hospital to substitute their favorite “therapeutic interchange” for what I normally take. I’ve worked to find the mix that is balanced and works for me at home. If I can’t avoid a hospital stay I’m plenty willing to carry along whatever drug or supplement the hospital can’t (or won’t) supply. The ability of drugs to change how others are metabolized is a VITAL side effect to be aware of.
Avatar f tn we are starting to get real. Not sure if you want to try to replace the coke with provigil.....and thats probably what would happen. Check out ---- clinicaltrials.gov ----- and you will be able to find all trials in your area. It took my suppliers getting busted for me to wake up - - and my suppliers were in South America....................
572651 tn?1530999357 I wish. I can only get a one month supply of Nuvigil and it costs me $75 in co-pay. I haven't quite figured out the exact definition of what a "maintenance drug" is according to my benefit package. I've been taking daily doses of either Provigil or Nuvigil for over 5 years now - always a month at a time. I wouldn't want to think about it except I wouldn't be functional without it.
572735 tn?1217201019 hello ther i will be around ! I was only on the provigil for a short time due to the migrianes, but I think I'm going to give it another try.I go tommorrow to see the dr. to find out weither or not I can start the bataserion yet due to the infection i hd from the rebif. So wish me luck! And thanks for getting back to me so soon!
1401877 tn?1288107639 No matter what combination or what I add or eliminate my POTS seems to be resistant to all of them, meaning it just gets progressively worse over the years without any meds helping or hurting. But even so I am always hoping that I'm not making myself worse with the meds that I am on (I constantly second guess myself) and would love to know if you all can tell me if you think any of my meds or combinations are doing me a disservice.
390916 tn?1204840470 It could be that my fatigue is so overwhelming (from MS), and as a software engineer my need to be able to concentrate is about nil without this medicine. Also, my body is sooooo tolerant to just about anything except antibiotics! LOL. Even at the dentist I need a ton of Novocaine to be numbed. Any kind of sleeping pills act the same way. I have always been that way even before taking any kind of the prescribed type of pills above. So, my experience may be atypical.
Avatar f tn ) Anyway, I had previously had Amantadine, which did zilch, even at 200 mg. I am authorized to take 100 mg of Provigil, and can go to 200 if necessary. From what I recall, many of you take half a pill, so I guess that's 50. Have looked up the drug info online and it said side effects include nausea and anxiety, among other things, including a serious rash.. It also said that interactions with quite a lot of other drugs are possible.
620048 tn?1358018235 Hi, Meg. I tried Amantadine. At first it seemed to give me some energy, but then I had some worrisome symptoms from it - (can't remember what they were - sorry) - so I stopped it. Like you, I've used Provigil and that is the only thing that has ever helped me feel back to normal (almost). The makers of Provigil have come out with a new drug called Nuvigil whicih is supposed to last longer than Provigil and be slightly different.
Avatar f tn Hi, I took Provigil for about eight months, sometimes 100 mg, sometimes 200 mg per day, depending on the day. It worked great at the beginning but eventually stopped working. So I went on Adderal for about six months and the same thing. It worked at first but not so much as time went by. I am back on Provigil and it is working again but not very good. I keep cutting my hours down at work because of the fatigue but it is beginning to get the best of me.
620048 tn?1358018235 The other meds such as anti-seizure meds (which are used for nerve pain) and Amitriptyline (Elavil) which used to be used as an anti-depressant and is now used for pain control by providing a more stable sleep pattern and used to treat the symptoms of the MS. This is if you are diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting MS. If you are diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS I don't believe that there currently is a medication like the DMD's...they generally just try to treat the symptoms.
1088527 tn?1425313375 I believe this is an abnormal reaction to Provigil. What you describe is what people who take speed experience. Provigil and Nuvigil are meant to have a selective action on the sleep/wake centers of the brain. They are not supposed to act as general stimulants. I doubt this hyperactivity is good for people in general. In those of us with MS it could be downright dangerous.
788554 tn?1257693252 I'm wondering how long you took each medication. I do think the fatigue gets us worn down to a point that it takes quite a while sometimes to get on top of it - kind of like pain is harder to control if you don't take something early enough. I don't think lazy and fatigued are even close to the same thing. When I'm fatigued I am unable to do what I want to do. When I'm lazy I choose to not do something I know I should (and could) because I just don't want to.
Avatar f tn My experience pretty much mirrors yours. The longer I was on Provigil the less effective it seemed. Side effects weren't real wonderful either. But Nuvigil is wonderful. It last longer during the day and so far the side effects aren't nearly as bad as Provigil. Whether my body gets too used to it remains to be seen, but for now, I like it much better. My neurologist explained to me that it is pretty much the chemical mirror image of Provigil with a little tweaking.
Avatar m tn That's why most of us say "ask your Dr. about......." Strattera is a med to help with concentration. I believe that was the question. [Is there any med to improve concentration?] I did not say buy Strattera on the black market and don't tell your doctor about it. I merely answered the question.
