Common Questions and Answers about What is prograf used for

prograf

Avatar m tn My current dose is Prograf 3 mg AM/ Prograf 3 mg PM and Rapamune 4 mg AM. The intent is to convert me to 100% Rapamune because of the nephro-toxicity of the Prograf and my young age and because of the anti-cancer properties of Rapamune. Data, while horribly limited, has shown Rapamune's anti-cancer properties have had success against vascular tumors such as mine so EHE, in this case chronic, is part of the cancers Rapamune affects (some cancers it has no effect).
Avatar f tn This is so individual that it is hard to know what level is right for anyone without a lot of experience. I think 6.5 is nothing to worry about. I might ask his coordinator if she thinks the gap between this Prograf level and his previous level looks alright. I wonder whether his Prograf dose was the same for both labs and, if so, whether the lab time was different or if there was some other factor present.
Avatar m tn I take Prograf for the liver transplant and I know Naragenin affects the Prograf levels. My question is if during treatment I also took Naragenin and my prograf levels were closely watched and adjusted for the Naragenin effects, wouldn't I have a better chance of clearing the virus.
Avatar m tn hi Dr my mum did her liver transplant 10 month ago and she is taking prograf medicine but now a days she is starting to have itching in her hands and feet so is that related to the prograf? or that something to do with the liver? and what should we do ?
Avatar n tn If this is not feasible than using other cheaper medications such as verapamil for example for HTN for example will alllow much lower doses of prograf to be used (it delays metabolism of the medication) and thus it comes out cheaper.
Avatar m tn What medications is he taking?
Avatar f tn What is considered "high blood pressure" and when does it become a concern??? My typical blood pressure is in the low 120's/low 130's however, lately its been in the mid140's/low 150's. Does this happen after transplant (3 months post transplant)? Should I be concerned? Does Prograf cause tremors? And...can these tremors be contributing to making a person feel tired and exhausted???
Avatar n tn If i lower my prograf lower than 6.5 through rate i start getting discomfort right side .i am having cognitive issues on prograf that are getting very hard to live with, seems like it got alot worse after my last of three mri with contrast in two years. was hospitalized two days after last contrast exsposure white blood count went to1000, headach, fever urine got exstremly foamy, severe itching ,tighting and rashd eveloped on lower legs two weeks after.
Avatar n tn You are still a relatively new transplant. It is not unusual for Prograf levels to fluctuate a lot early on. That is why you have blood test fairly frequently. I imagine you are having them at least once per week, no? After about 5 months post TP, the prograf level should be more stable, and is desireable to be at 3 to 8. I wouldn't worry about the numbers you have, just talk to the Dr. with any concerns.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me there are many foods that are being tested to see what there reaction is when Prograf is used by a transplant recipient. The new foods being tested are all citrus fruits. Pomegranate and apricots are now being studied to see if they have the same effect as grapefruit juice, (increasing Prograf levels). My doctors advise to me is, "If you eat something and later don't feel well, don't eat it again." Listen to your body.
Avatar f tn prograf is a common cause of migraine-type headaches
686869 tn?1227199935 I have a friend that only takes the liquid form because 1mg was too much for him....lucky devil. Is Rapamune similar to prograf? You know now that I have talked with you I feel that maybe my meds can be altered altogether and yes I went through the entire process for kidney testing, bood work, 24 hr. urinalisys the works. Now you know you can survive on one kidney and basically thats what I have the equivalent of, but with my exercise and diet program...(not Dr.
Avatar f tn Blood tests show that the BUN and creatinine levels are slightly elevated. If prograf does effect the kidneys, what measures can be taken to help minimize damage to the kidneys and help protect the kidneys??? Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn Use diluted bleach (10:1) or formaldehyde. Alcohol is not recommended.
Avatar f tn The doctor - does he suspect virus infection, I am not sure - prescribed a blood test, result of which comes out after a week or so. Is this situation - TLC at 2.8 for two weeks now despite CellCept being reduced to Nil mg - is so serious a problem as to cause worry? I am not sure how serious is this is - I am not doctor.
Avatar m tn Hi Doctor, what is the normal course of treatment or actions taken when ALT/AST continues to rise (e.g., 500~600) post-transplant due to HCV (and not rejection)? If suppressants are at the correct trouph levels, say, Prograf and Rapamycin, what are the next steps - switch suppressants, treat?
1644856 tn?1301038801 This I dont care for much, but is the only thing that helps the pain some.Doctors put me through series of tests & though I had melynoma? Because of the prograff I take..Iam on 1 1/2 mgs twice a day.I am grateful..I only had 6 months to live almost ten yrs ago.My question is..will I end up with Meyaloma or melyinoma..? I know its a guessing game, and just curious how the end will come. Will it come because of the fk prograf? I also fight diabetes, which I never had before the transplant.
Avatar f tn I went into rejection twice in the hospital and because of this my transplant team saw it best to put me on 5mg of prograf twice a day as well as 4 mg of rapimune, which by the way was off label and i had to sign a release form for. Just within the past 2 months they lowerd my dosage of rapimune to 2mg but kept the prograf the same. My question to you is exactly how suppressed is my immune system?
Avatar n tn My history: liver transplant 1 year ago, had 2 moderate rejections and 1 mild since transplant. At present time having moderate rejection, recently had one portal stent and 8 Bilary ERCP's to remove stones and sludge and had stenting done, and at the present time there are no blockages. Was on Rapamune (5mg a day) prior to hernia surgery and then week before hernia surgery was put on Prograf (4mg a day) and taken off the Rapamune. I have been on Progaf since hernia surgery (8 weeks ago).
Avatar f tn the HTN is not bad for the liver but its bad for the hear and kidneys. i think all of the medications need to be increased further and maybe the prograf dose can be decreased somewhat. if the HTN is refractory then the docs may also need to look for secondary causes such as renal artery stenosis.
29837 tn?1414534648 05mg daily of Prograf. Has anyone who had a liver transplant gotten off the Prograf completely? Inquiring minds want to know.
Avatar m tn the key here is for her to check HBV-DNA and HBeAg. these will asess whether she is actively infectious and viremic.
Avatar n tn I get the impression that the only way to tell for sure is to stop and see what happens. Sounds too risky for me. I think the conventional wisdom for now is to stay on the drugs, bad as they can be.
Avatar f tn My husband had a liver transplant on Aug.5th - and has been **** well. Today he broke out in hives all over his head. He is itching terribly - and the 2nd Benadryl hasn't helped. He is on Cellcept, prograf, and is in a clinical trial (so we don't really know what the extra meds are). Should we be concerned???
Avatar m tn Based on ALT/AST continuing to rise to the 300/400 level, and not rejection but hcv, what is the general action taken. Do you lower the prograf or cellcept and monitor closely? What is your experience in this scenario as far as the outcome?
