Prograf medication tacrolimus

Common Questions and Answers about Prograf medication tacrolimus

prograf

Avatar n tn there are prograf assistance programs that the company offers. If this is not feasible than using other cheaper medications such as verapamil for example for HTN for example will alllow much lower doses of prograf to be used (it delays metabolism of the medication) and thus it comes out cheaper.
Avatar m tn His cretanine is almost 1.4 or around. My question is that should he continue his TACROLIMUS tablets or should switch to some other tablets which are safe for kidneys? Secondly , in my sorrounding there is an opinion that lowering the TACROLIMUS dose also let the liver enzymes to increase? Do you favour such opinions as my father has lowered his tacrolimus dose to keep his kidneys safe? Sir ,will wait for your kind reply. Thanks.
Avatar m tn i wouldnt lower the tacrolimus dose further
Avatar m tn I take Prograf for the liver transplant and I know Naragenin affects the Prograf levels. My question is if during treatment I also took Naragenin and my prograf levels were closely watched and adjusted for the Naragenin effects, wouldn't I have a better chance of clearing the virus.
Avatar f tn I'm geno type 3. I've heard Prograf is harder on the kidneys than sirolimus which is why they switched me from cyclosporine to sirolimus. That's probably why they haven't suggested switching me to Prograf in fact this is the first time I'm hearing about Prograf or Tacrolimus (it's other name as I found on the web). Thanks for your response and congrats on your great report since week 4 !
Avatar n tn More frequent aFib episodes, yet found to be hypertensive on 18-hour continuous BP study in neighborhood of 160/85 average when in sinus, lower BP when in Fib. Symptomatic in that exercise tolerance is significantly less when in Fib, also with constant chest "heaviness" and mild breathlessness. Wish to control the arrhythmia which started ~ 6 mos ago and is now recurring once/week usually while asleep, and suspect that it is of parasympathetic character.
Avatar m tn i would be extremely cautious about using it until more data is available especially since its purported effects on tacrolimus and cyclosporine metabolism are extreme. i am quite confident that there will be clinical trials coming down the road extremely soon.
163305 tn?1333668571 The CIs - cyclosporine and tacrolimus levels are increased significantly by the PIs - as much as 70% increased levels - I believe. I do not know of any transplant centers who have begun treatment with Invcivek or Victrelis in their liver transplant population. It appears as though we're going to have to wait until they've figured out the dosages.
Avatar m tn I think you should go on with systemic corticosteroids and newer modes of intervention like topical tacrolimus and pimecrolimus (an immunosuppressant known as a topical immuno-modulator) are new agents. These medicines are used if patients are intolerant or unresponsive to conventional therapy. Weak tar preparations and ultraviolet B light therapy are used to increase the thickness of the stratum corneum. Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Avatar f tn My typical blood pressure is in the low to mid 120's, however, lately its been in the mid140's/low 150's. And its random...it could be 154/72 and then test it about 20 minutes later and its 122/72. Could the prograf be causing an elevated blood pressure therefore contributing to the dull inconsistent headaches?? Why is it so random?
Avatar f tn Which medication would you consider increasing? In regards to the prograf, currently taking 2.5mg 2x daily. Almost one year post transplant. Very worried. As always, thank you for answering my questions.
1644856 tn?1301038801 immunosuppressive medication such as prograf can increase one's susceptibility for cancer, be it multiple myeloma or melanoma (skin cancer). You should be followed with serial blood tests--the dose of prograf is not that high.
Avatar m tn Before two years he has the same symptoms but without fever and he was undergone to biopsy from his chest which yield that he has not tumor . After starting medication by antibiotic the enlarged lymph node in his neck was reduced but not return to normal size . Now the fever continue at night for about ten days and still we did not know the reason .
Avatar m tn If suppressants are at the correct trouph levels, say, Prograf and Rapamycin, what are the next steps - switch suppressants, treat?
Avatar n tn Many doctors will tell you that you will take immune suppression medication for life. However, research has shown some people can get off of them. In fact one researcher claims 20% of all liver transplants recipients don't need the meds at all. Studies are currently underway. My hepatologist told me, that some people can stop taking them after about 5 years. The theory is that your stem cells replace the ones in the donor liver actually making it your own.
Avatar f tn I think 2 mg Prograf per day at 6 months out is a really nice dose and his Prograf blood level of 6.5 is definitely within range.
Avatar n tn If i lower my prograf lower than 6.5 through rate i start getting discomfort right side .i am having cognitive issues on prograf that are getting very hard to live with, seems like it got alot worse after my last of three mri with contrast in two years. was hospitalized two days after last contrast exsposure white blood count went to1000, headach, fever urine got exstremly foamy, severe itching ,tighting and rashd eveloped on lower legs two weeks after.
Avatar n tn I believe that diarrhea can cause an elevation in Prograf level. Taking Prograf with food can decrease absorption and result in a lower Prograf level. This is even more pronounced if you take it with fatty food. If Prograf doesn't upset your stomach it is best taken about 1 hour before eating - on an empty stomach. The range on my labs sheet is 4 - 16 so you are well within range.
Avatar n tn Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine. [both drugs are calcineurin inhibitors] * omeprazole (Losec, Prilosec) * oxycodone (Oxycodone is metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system, specifically CYP3A4, of which the bergamottin flavonoid is a strong inhibitor) * hydrocodone (The hepatic cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP2D6 converts it into hydromorphone, a more potent opioid.
Avatar f tn my hubby is 8 months post transplant, i everything were going fine but one thing i wanna know when he is going to take meidcines for liver again as i know that after transplant patient must ofcoarse undergo medication again. hope anybody out there could help. thanks a lot and God bless!
Avatar f tn t respond to prednisone or azathioprine, your doctor may prescribe stronger immunosuppressants, such as mycophenolate (CellCept), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune, others) or tacrolimus (Prograf). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When medication fails to stop the progression of cirrhosis eventually a liver transplant must be considered. This is another reason to also seek treatment with a transplant facility.
Avatar f tn I wonder if the study medication could be playing a role. Actigall is a commonly used medication post-transplant and can paradoxically cause itching.
338734 tn?1377160168 Found this article also that I thought might be of general interest. I appologize if this information has already been posted and/or discussed. It portrays a different picture than when the drugs were finishing trials. We new there would be many problems and hurdles to overcome once they were approved. From my standpoint, the difficulties in treating liver transplant patients was a concern. It turns out to be more of a problem of just the problem that it wasn't studied in TP patients.
Avatar m tn My current dose is Prograf 3 mg AM/ Prograf 3 mg PM and Rapamune 4 mg AM. The intent is to convert me to 100% Rapamune because of the nephro-toxicity of the Prograf and my young age and because of the anti-cancer properties of Rapamune. Data, while horribly limited, has shown Rapamune's anti-cancer properties have had success against vascular tumors such as mine so EHE, in this case chronic, is part of the cancers Rapamune affects (some cancers it has no effect).
