Common Questions and Answers about What is opana er used for

opana

Avatar f tn I found an answer ,, Opana is in a group of drugs called narcotic pain relievers. It is similar to morphine. Opana is used to treat moderate to severe pain. The extended-release form of this medication is for around-the-clock treatment of pain. Opana is not for treating pain just after surgery unless you were already taking Opana before the surgery.
1445110 tn?1388209711 I recently was prescribed Opana ER was on methadone for two months and Norco for breakthrough pain. I had trouble tolerating the methadone. It made me feel horrible, couldnt function and didnt really help my back and hip pain. I am chicken to take the Opana. I need to get started on it and try it but I am so afraid of stronger pain meds. Anyone familiar with it and did it help with the pain without sedating you too much?
1855076 tn?1337115303 I've been on pain meds for the last five years. Long story, many surgeries. I took myself off a boatload of meds and was in and out of withdrawals most of that time. I transferred my care over to my primary care who gave me a script for up to 5 10 mg. oxycodone a day. For a long time I took nothing and just dealt with the pain. With the changing weather, I started using my script here and there and a few weeks ago was back to every day.
Avatar m tn when i could not find oxycontin i would take opana er 40mg. opana(oxymorphone) is about twice as potent as oxycodone. they are rather new i believe they came out in 2002?
Avatar n tn It is being prescribed off label as Actiq was initially developed for cancer pain but there are so many other meds out there that are used off label. For example, neurontin is an anti-convulsant but it is more often prescribed for nerve pain. Prescribing actiq must be out of your doctors comfort zone. I would definitely discuss the immediate release form of Opana with your doctor.
1264863 tn?1391118193 I was moved up a tiny bit on the Oxycodone for the next three months and then she is wanting me on Opana ER. BUT if my insurance is much higher there is no way I can do it so that might be a factor here as well. It makes me nervous about it that nobody here seems to be on it or know much about it either. Is there a long acting a could suggest that might be similar. And if this is a morphine type medication it will not work for me.
Avatar n tn You are actually getting 5 mg less of oxycodone through the switch from percocet to Opana ER. However, since Opana ER is an entirely different opioid formulation. There is probably some cross tolerance and your doctor applied a 20% cross tolerance factor when converting you from oxycodone to Opana ER. This is to protect you from severe side effects and a potential overdose of the Opana.
571096 tn?1217008564 I am new to Opana Er and am taking 3 5 mgs a day. It is helping my quality of life but I am having headaches and still having breakthrough pain. I go back to my doctor next week and wonder if I need a different dose. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I used to take opana but they took it off the market and I was put on morphine sulfate er, that is the drug that tested negative. It was either false negatives both and they did send it to a lab or they set me up just to take me off the opioid. I know it sounds crazy for me to think they would set me up but it is even crazier to me to be accused of selling my meds to take other opioids. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT TAKE STREET DRUGS OR ABUSE MY MEDS!!!
541953 tn?1262586226 And my doctor changed my meds from the morphine to Opana Er 20 mgs twice a day. what is the difference? does anyone know? I tried to google and got nothing. I was just wondering if this is just a different brand name for morphine but stronger? thanks in advance for your help.
712802 tn?1274645485 I was switched to 100mg Morphine 2x a day only after 2-3 months is not doing anything after 4 hours for now HE switched me to Opana er 40mg 2x a day the morphine worked while i was at work taking it 1 hour before going to work(Chef) but as soon as my 6 hour shift was ending The pain has become unbearable, now with the opana er I am feeling bad pain during work,I really am not sure what I am Asking, basically has anyone who has severe chronic pain who has to work like me ,I just need some wisdom t
Avatar m tn You are taking Opana ER every 4-6 hours? Opana ER is meant to be taken every 12 hours, not every 4-6 hours. In fact, most insurance companies will not pay for extended release medications to be taken more than 2 times per day. I am very surprised that both your doctor and insurance are permitting the dosing schedule you stated. https://www.belbuca.
Avatar m tn 3. Opana ER is recommended to dose every 12 hours. Not sure if the three times daily (or TID) dosing is better for you pain regimen. Consult with your provider to consider Opana ER 30 mg three tablets every 12 hours if you both agree that it is a better option for you. 4. Why are you converting to fentanyl patch? Is your pain not well controlled? What is you pain rating, based on the scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the worst pain you have)?
Avatar f tn This has caused so much fear in me, but I have tapered down a great deal. I find the hard thing about Opana ER is that it cannot be cut, so the drop is really significant. Last month, my pain management NP told me to drop from 10 mg Opana ER mg three times a day to 5 mg Opana ER three times a day. In both cases I have three 5 mg Opana IRs to take with the ER.
1264863 tn?1391118193 Anyone taken Opana ER? My doctor wants to switch me from Oxy to Opana ER and I am very nervous about it. Any advice is helpful.
Avatar m tn His physician apparently wants him to take the Opana ER routinely and the Opana IR for break thought pain. This is not unusual. I would never add Norco back into the equation unless directed by his physician. His symptoms could be his systems reaction to the Opana. Once his body adjusts the symptoms should subside. If he continues with the symptoms or they become more pronounced his physician should be notified.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Opana ER 30mg. 3 times a day for several months. My doctor has moved to Alaska and gave me 3 months of prescriptions while I find another doctor. When I dropped off the 2nd prescription the pharmacy told me they have ordered Opana several times over the last month and the order has not come. I called every pharmacy in my town and they said the same thing. Tapering is out of the question, so I guess its time for me to stop taking it, and it will have to be cold turkey.
1331804 tn?1336867358 Now, converting that to Opana ER. Opana ER is 3x stronger than morphine; hence, 120 mg of morphine = 120/3 mg of Opana ER per day (i.e., 40 mg). Therefore I should be taking 20 mg of Opana ER every 12 hours NOT 30 mg of Opan ER every 12 hours. The 40 mg Opana ER includes all of the breakthrough percocet I take per day and the total in morphine sulfate ER I take per day. With this lower dose, I still should not need breakthrough meds.
Avatar n tn Everyone is different and what works for one person may not for another. Give the new med a bit of time to see if it helps. How often are you taking the Opana ER versus how often were you taking the oxycodone?
Avatar f tn my dr just put me on opana ER 10mg 2x day and 2 lortab day for breakthru...before that was prescribed and taking 4 norco 10/325 daily and was not controlling the pain...i've been in this constant flar-up phase few weeks... i've only been on opana er for 2 days so i know it takes around 5 days to kick in and dr says this mg is a starting point for me and will move up some accordingly...i'm glad and surprised that my pain has subsided some...
725248 tn?1316162245 I've been on Opana ER for about a year now and it is the best pain medicine I have ever used for my chronic back pain. HOWEVER, I urge you to use caution and do not take more than is prescribed because when you run out, you will have withdrawals that make you think you're dying and nothing else will make it better. Opana hell is what my husband calls it.
Avatar f tn Every human makeup is different so nobody can say for sure what is right for you. However that being said a good long acting medicine is better than taking 20 short acting and then killing your liver no matter what people say about oxycontin....it does help with long term pain and you cannot abuse it. ASK YOUR DR.
604815 tn?1220102163 I am not a fool and cant and wont do it cold turkey, been there done that, I have taken 40 mg of meth 2 days ago and have done roxis and had a fetynal patch on for 2 days, I have a presription for opana er and as I was reading it I noticed the scary for me word antoginist (sp?) I was looking forward to trying to get totally off the meth with the help of the opana and now that I read that I am wondering if it is like suboxome or subutex??
Avatar m tn from what I have read Opana ER is 2x Oxycontin...I have been on it about a year...when I first posted thought it was only 8 months or so but I've since checked...
401095 tn?1351391770 Hi, worried. For what little it's worth, I've been on Opana 40 mg. twice a day (ER-extended release) for about four months now. I feel that it's been the most effective of the ER drugs I've been prescribed, with only nominal side effects.. Cheers!
