Avatar f tn I've never heard of nitroglycerin being used to treat migraine, but glad that it worked. But if it keeps on, and sorry to tell you this, but you probably should see a doctor ASAP. It could be the sign of a coming stroke, since it is sudden and very painful. I started with a sudden very different migraine than any I had ever had before. It turned out that within 3 weeks, longer than usual as a gap in time, I had a full carotid artery dissection stroke.
572651 tn?1530999357 My bp is also low - averages 90/60 but the nitro is for the angina which is not bp related. I find it really knocks me out for a while after I get over the headache ..... If my pain is really MS related and not cardio related, I'm wondering what the nitro is really doing.............
Avatar m tn What would happen if you rubbed pure nitroglycerin on your skin? I'd like to know the symptoms on and below the skin. I know that nitroglycerin is used for anginas, but I also know that it's generally mixed with something else, so I'm curious about how well pure nitroglycerin would work and what it would do. And if you had a vial of pure nitroglycerin, what could you mix it with to be able to use it as ointment?
Avatar f tn If you miss a dose of Nitroglycerin Patch, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once. When used for long periods of time without a break, some people develop a physical need to continue taking Nitroglycerin Patch. This is known as physical DEPENDENCE. Do not suddenly stop taking Nitroglycerin Patch without your doctor's approval.
Avatar n tn You should see a doctor, preferably a cardiologist, to discuss possible alternatives/substitutes for Nikoran OD. He/she will be able to give you the proper dosing, make sure there are no contraindications with your other co-morbidities, and make sure there are no unwarranted interactions with other drugs you are currently taking.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar n tn ed is correct nitro dilates vessels. I take a nitrate (isosorbide) for more than 6 years 3 times before going to gym for workout. My blood pressure does not drop between intervals...in fact I was told to have intervals of nitrate free period. It is true, nitro dilates the coronary vessels and prevents angina (chest pain). The patch should only be worn for up to 12 to 14 hours a day, or as directed by your doctor, but continued use with no interruptions can cause a tolerance for drug....
Avatar m tn My cardiologist thinks the the probability of me having an occluded/blocked coronary artery is very low. My question is, why then am I responding to the nitroglycerin, it being a vasodilator (widens the blood vessels)??? Gastritis and GERD have been ruled out. the doctor thinks it could be anxiety then shouldn't they be giving me a sedative or relaxant as opposed to a vasodilator? I have a pending stress echo test in a couple of weeks and if this test is again normal...
805943 tn?1238093647 Nitro can help some forms of esophageal spasm. Nitroglycerin is used with esophageal spasms (GERD). It is the one non heart related illness that nitroglycerin works in. However, that doesn't rule out a concomitant heart condition. Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator not only for your heart vessels but for the vascular system which then subsquently lowers your blood pressure. It even dilates the vessels in the brain which then usually gives the side effect of the headache also.
Avatar f tn ve been having a pounding head ache, face has been flushed, etc for over three days. I used to have to take high blood pressure medicine but I was running, loosing weight and my need for the medication was done. I've recently gained weight and haven't run in about 3 months. My blood pressure is 150 over 95. When do I just wait to go see my regular doctor and when do I go to the ER?
Avatar n tn Apart from this you should be on maximal medical therapy including beta blockers, ace inhibitors, aspirin and plavix as well as a statin. Is you heart function preserved after the heart attack? It is possible that your shortness of breath is secondary to systolic dysfunction and not only pneumonia. In fact, the so called pneumonia you had could have been congestive heart failure all along and not a bacterial pneumonia at all.
Avatar f tn m still on Betaloc.I went also for a Stress test which results for ST Depression and also for a CT Coronary Angiogram . Results was Normal Coronary Arteries. My question is what are the precautions I need to take to avoid any other chest pains and do I have a problem in my heart. Can ypu please clear my mind.
Avatar m tn My husband is 76 years old. He had a heart catherization recently and was found to have several blocked arteries. He had 2 stents put in 2011. Are the risks too great for my husband at his age with insulin dependent diabetes for 19 years to have open heart surgery? His cardiologist so far has put him a medication regimen to try to help with his blocked arteries. The only sympton he has had with the placing of the stents was Chest Pressure, no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn m not a health professional, but the first question I would ask is if you are a candidate for a pacemaker. They can work wonders to regulate the heart when one is taking medications such as you are taking. Keep us informed after talking with your doctor.
Avatar n tn i was put on nexium over a year ago for very severe heartburn. currently still on it. but if it is heartburn, it obviosly is not doing the job. ive also been told that maybe its severe stress. whats your take on this. i would love to have the tests done just to know, but funds are tight right now.( theyve also mentioned having a endoscoppy) lastly i had a docter prescribe nito spray to me months ago. i never used it.
Avatar m tn I also have the fast acting nitro pill available but seldom used. That works for me. Have you tried a nitrate? There is a tolerance issue with a nitrate and it is recommended to interupt occasionally for a day or two. For some insight: Different nitrate preparations are often combined. Pills, patches, or paste may be used together with sublingual nitroglycerin to give maximum relief and prevent angina.
