Avatar m tn I would ask the doctor and/or pharmacist if the tingling will go away after she gets off the Nitrofurantoin and if so then if she can tolerate it and it is working well then you can either up to dose of neurontin or try to tolerate it until the antibiotic is finished. If not then switch. I would not go off anything until talking to the doctor. Depending on the dose of Gabapin, she may have to taper off of it as you cannot go off of it immediately. You will get rebound insomina.
Avatar f tn PS -- I neglected to say that Macrodantin is the brand name of generic nitrofurantoin, which is the name used in the information above.
Avatar n tn Hi, Nitrofurantoin is the generic name of Macrobid and is used to treat urinary tract infections. It is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, unless it is used during the last 2 to 4 weeks of pregnancy. You can first take the antibiotics until the prescribed period then take the pregnancy test after. It is important to finish the course of antibiotics even if symptoms improve before the infection is completely cleared. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Female 31. A LOT of testing done, but no answer. Bilirubin, LDH, Direct Coombs Test, Indirect Coombs Test, Anti RBC Antibodies, Anti RBC antibodies titrenvd, CBC, Bilirubin in Urine, ESR, Creatinine, Urobilinogen, Hemaglobin, Hematocrit all seem to be fine, but Haptoglobin is <0.01 - completely depleted in three tests done in a week. No history or symptoms of anemia or haemolysis. 9 days ago Nitrofurantoin (200g a day for 5 days) was taken and daily birth control (Qlaira).
Avatar f tn I have had to rest in my bed for the entire afternoon every day for the last 4 days. This is making it difficult to go about my daily life. I have had to cancel things because I felt unable to do anything. I am well-hydrated, well-fed, and well-rested. I just don't get it. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed nitrofurantoin (macrobid) for a UTI. I have a hard time swallowing pills. Can these be broken up?
Avatar f tn As far as how long you might have to treat this...well, it depends on the cause. Some bladder issues may be quickly resolvable, some are not, but all but the very, very worst can be managed. I too have to take Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystals after intercourse as a prophylactic. Sex is notorious for causing UTI's even in women without any underlying issues (google "honeymoon cystitis"). A lot of bacteria gets moved up a very short access as well as urethral irritation caused by sex.
Avatar n tn I have a question. Are drugs in the benzo family ever used to treat seizures? As in Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, etc? I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
Avatar f tn has anyone taken nitrofurantoin mono/Mac 100mg for a uti? if so what the outcome and was your baby Ok afterwards?
Avatar f tn m seeing obviously wants to rule out sti but with symptoms clearing up would it be normal of a sti to do this and what are the possible causes of my current and reduced symptoms. I have have treatment of nitrofurantoin for 1 week after my initial appointment but no more treatment since while they try figure out what's wrong. Anyone ever experienced this before and can shed any light that will help put my mind at peace while I wait for all these tests to be completed?
Avatar f tn A UTI is tested for so there is no doubt you had that. Yeast is easy to treat, BV is another pill specifically for that type of bacteria. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn I am having an urgent scan tomorrow but the drs seem at a loss as to what is causing this? Any advice or help?
1318483 tn?1318347182 I agree with everything that Twopack said. If you've been on the drug 3 or 4 days now with no symptom relief, that would suggest to me that you have an organism that for whatever reason is resistant to the drug. It is a good broad spectrum antibiotic, meaning that it works against a wide variety of organisms, but there are still some organisms that are resistant to nitrofurantoin.
Avatar n tn Most uncomplicated UTIs can be treated with oral antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin, or a fluoroquinolone (e.g., ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin). Trimethoprim is probably the most widely used antibiotic for UTIs and is usually taken for 7 days. It is often recommended that trimethoprim be taken at night to ensure maximal urinary concentrations and increase its effectiveness.
Avatar f tn I took nitrofurantoin for a UTI infection and finished my course on Tuesday morning. Yesterday (Friday), I noticed what appears to be hives (small raised bumps with no redness, they didn’t itch) on my legs. I counted 13 - primarily on my thighs and shins. They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?
Avatar f tn This is a tough question. Just very hard to say what could be going on here. I'd say listen to your Dr., try taking the 2nd prescription med for at least a week & see if that helps. This problem requires expert medical opinion, so unless someone has had the exact symptoms & could point out what it was, you may not find a good answer here. For now, trust your Dr's opinion, if that doesn't help, see a specialist (probably a Urologist)...
Avatar m tn Logic tells me the ear clogging is somehow connected to the nitrofurantoin. Has anyone ever experienced this or heard of this happening? Will this clogging go away by itself? I can't begin to figure out the causes/effects here, but this condition is driving me crazy. An anyone help with suggestions?
Avatar n tn Thursday my female 10 lb. 2 year old Japanes chin was lethargic and not eating. She was givin Reglan and Pepcid at the clinic. Friday still lethargic not eating and had a fever. Friday she had blood work and xrays. Everything was normal except slightly anemic. Also a questionable gas pattern and a dark area in the stomach on xray. was given fluids, baytril injection, and ampicillan injection. Went home with bayrtil prescribed once a day and probiotic, still on pepcid.
Avatar f tn Hi I looked this up, it used to be called Macrobid. It is just for bladder infections so that is good. If your doctor knows about your liver, I think this would be safe. I am not a doctor but I also have compensated cirrhosis and always worry about antibiotics. I learned that penicillin or penicillin family is the safest. In your case, it sounds like it is worth it to use it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn m a nurse, if you tell me what he/she gave you I can tell you if (to my knowledge) if its common and what class of is... also look into cranberry juice or pills.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed Nitrofurantoin by my Gastroenterologist and I am afraid to take it! Thank you!
Avatar f tn Hello, I have a history of UTIs due to a fistula between my colon and bladder. (My weight is about 145 kg, previously has been 188 kg, with a length of 170cm) It started in 2006, I did get nitrofurantoin, but I got only more ill, till I even got over 41 degree fever and an emergency-doctor then prescribed ciprofloxacin which did help (this was in Holland). Since 2008 we are in UK and I have been under treatment at St George, London, till 2010.
Avatar f tn This could be balanitis, a fungal infection, or a variety of other conditions. It shouldn't be embarrassing. Loads of men get infections like this all the time, and the longer you let it go untreated, the worse it will be. Balanitis may need antibiotics, so don't try to treat it yourself - just go get it checked. To your doctor, your penis is just a body part, like your elbow or knee. There's no need for shame.
Avatar f tn Symtoms: whole body pins/needles and burning from scalp, face throughout entire body to the toes. Began 1 1/2 yrs. ago as tingling in my fingers. Then it progressed and I had muscle cramps and twitches all over. I feel like if you stuck my hand into a Christmas tree, it would light up. I get electrical zaps ALL over. Now I have carpul tunnel syndrome. My skin hurts to be touched most of the time. I also get skin sensations of heat and sweating but I'm not sweating.
Avatar n tn The next day I woke up and my erections were gone again and testes shrunk, I took Nitrofurantoin and nothing is happening . I’m so scared I have phoned 111 and told them this and they told me to Go to my doctor again - the doctor said she gave me antibiotics already and refused to see me !
