t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.

When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.

Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.

I also get migraines. have you paid attention to any of the known migraine "triggers" like red wiine & chocolate, hard cheeses etc. You probably have but I thought I'd mention it. Like the others, I take Maxalt for mine & it always works. Maxalt is from the migraine interrupter family & also includes imetrix & Zomig. Good luck - it sounds very difficult.

There are other dissolvables out there too. I am surprised depakote is not helping, because it is used for migraine treatment. Start that darn magnesium or I am going to find you and kick your behind!!

Are you living w/ this person? Is this person your daughter? Is she financially dependent on you? It really doesn't matter what she says, if she's an active heroin addict, she is lying about her using. The only useful info for you and your sanity is to stop enabling this person. You can give her a choice to get into rehab or (assuming she lives w/ you) she needs to find other accommodations. You won't ever help a addict by making them comfortable in their surroundings.

Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.

They actually told the drs that Ibuprophen or advil works JUST as good and to take all patients off fiorinal and fioricet and put them on high dose ibuprophen!!! well, Ibuprophen NEVER worked for my migraines.

A neurologist will be able to say for sure that this is a migraine and if it is not then you will get proper treatment for what it is instead of triptans which are migraine medication. If it is a migraine, which is probable, then a neurologist can prescribe preventative medication, which is better than using triptans daily...

Instead of over-the-counter analgesics, prescription analgesics that are more appropriate for migraine headaches are often prescribed. There is an NSAID called Naproxen that is often prescribed for migraine headaches and Naproxen is less likely to cause rebound headache than the other NSAIDs. Barbiturates are sometimes prescribed, but for most these are not as effective as other treatments and they can cause rebound headaches.

t work. I was wondering if Elavil is safe for a child my age (14). Or if there is something safer for me. I have noticed feeling sleeper lately. Thats definately not normal for me I use to have alot of energy and stuff, now I just like to lay around and I never feel like I have done anything when I do that. So if there is something else out there that won't make me feel this way please tell me.

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

Dear NM, Congratulation on achieving your degree. The Maxalt can cause what is called a rebound headache/migraine from overuse. I've not heard of being immune to it. Here are a couple of thoughts that might help you: 1) You and your Doctor may need to consider upping the dosage of topomax. My wife increased her dosage from 50mg to 100mg. At the 50mg dose we did notice a decrease in total number of monthly migraines after discounting for weather from the 25mg dose.

As I said before, I use Zomig Nasal Spray and I find it works amazingly well for the majority of my migraines. In the past I used Maxalt-MLTs, and they worked really well for me for a long time too. A lot of my friends use Maxalt-MLTs with great success. Although, Zomig Nasal Spray has got to be my favourite triptan on the market. Other acute migraine medications include analgesics and antiemetics.
