Common Questions and Answers about What is maxalt used for

maxalt

Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
Avatar f tn When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.
564491 tn?1320360393 God gave us the knowledge to do the things that we do and what we need to pray for here is that God gives the doctors she is seeing Wisdom. If he decided to heal her, then GREAT! I am a Christian also. Now, as your your problems, did you know that oxygen can cause headaches to be worse? Maybe you need to turn your oxygen down a little bit. CBT is cognitive behavior therapy, something that would probably help your sleep problems, I am about to go through it myself.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.
Avatar f tn I also get migraines. have you paid attention to any of the known migraine "triggers" like red wiine & chocolate, hard cheeses etc. You probably have but I thought I'd mention it. Like the others, I take Maxalt for mine & it always works. Maxalt is from the migraine interrupter family & also includes imetrix & Zomig. Good luck - it sounds very difficult.
Avatar f tn There are other dissolvables out there too. I am surprised depakote is not helping, because it is used for migraine treatment. Start that darn magnesium or I am going to find you and kick your behind!!
Avatar m tn Are you living w/ this person? Is this person your daughter? Is she financially dependent on you? It really doesn't matter what she says, if she's an active heroin addict, she is lying about her using. The only useful info for you and your sanity is to stop enabling this person. You can give her a choice to get into rehab or (assuming she lives w/ you) she needs to find other accommodations. You won't ever help a addict by making them comfortable in their surroundings.
Avatar f tn Has anyone used Remeron for depression, while taking Maxalt for their migraines? I have migraines about every other day, and take 5mg maxalt for them. I was just given Remeron for depression, as the doc said i cannot take any SSRI's because of serotonin syndrome. I cannot find and interactions for Remeron, but just wondering if anyone else has tried these together. Any info appreciated.
1552758 tn?1304928419 A client sent me an arcticle from Belgium about botox injections used for the treatment of cerebral palsy and I also had a friend with spastic torticolus that used botox to help her neck spasms. I tried this for 1 year, having about 30 injections every 3 months mainly down the right side of my face, temples and neck. This treatment along with the cutting back of taking codeine tablets nearly every day helped stop the viscous cycle.
Avatar f tn t want to prescribe it anymore because the FDA reclassified WHAT it can be used for and migraine headaches is not on their list! They actually told the drs that Ibuprophen or advil works JUST as good and to take all patients off fiorinal and fioricet and put them on high dose ibuprophen!!! well, Ibuprophen NEVER worked for my migraines.
1030950 tn?1261010513 A neurologist will be able to say for sure that this is a migraine and if it is not then you will get proper treatment for what it is instead of triptans which are migraine medication. If it is a migraine, which is probable, then a neurologist can prescribe preventative medication, which is better than using triptans daily...
1125820 tn?1265284446 Instead of over-the-counter analgesics, prescription analgesics that are more appropriate for migraine headaches are often prescribed. There is an NSAID called Naproxen that is often prescribed for migraine headaches and Naproxen is less likely to cause rebound headache than the other NSAIDs. Barbiturates are sometimes prescribed, but for most these are not as effective as other treatments and they can cause rebound headaches.
Avatar n tn Hello Kalvin. Thanks for your input. The maxalt is for when I am really bad ( once a month or so ). As for a specialist of any kind, we are in the same place a lot of people are right now. No extra means for anything. Oh well, such is life. Thanks again for your responce.
Avatar n tn t work. I was wondering if Elavil is safe for a child my age (14). Or if there is something safer for me. I have noticed feeling sleeper lately. Thats definately not normal for me I use to have alot of energy and stuff, now I just like to lay around and I never feel like I have done anything when I do that. So if there is something else out there that won't make me feel this way please tell me.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
1334481 tn?1276697078 Dear NM, Congratulation on achieving your degree. The Maxalt can cause what is called a rebound headache/migraine from overuse. I've not heard of being immune to it. Here are a couple of thoughts that might help you: 1) You and your Doctor may need to consider upping the dosage of topomax. My wife increased her dosage from 50mg to 100mg. At the 50mg dose we did notice a decrease in total number of monthly migraines after discounting for weather from the 25mg dose.
Avatar n tn is there a generic for maxalt? is tere one coming.
1102283 tn?1257817472 As I said before, I use Zomig Nasal Spray and I find it works amazingly well for the majority of my migraines. In the past I used Maxalt-MLTs, and they worked really well for me for a long time too. A lot of my friends use Maxalt-MLTs with great success. Although, Zomig Nasal Spray has got to be my favourite triptan on the market. Other acute migraine medications include analgesics and antiemetics.
