969163 tn?1281105479 He has recently been put on geodon, I had some experience, bad ones, with geodon, but for him it seems to work. He is notorious for not taking his medication, either at all, on time, or without food. Once in awhile, when he'll take his nighttime geodon, he becomes very groggy and falls asleep in a chair, on the steps, eating dinner, etc. when we try to coax him to go to bed he gets belligerent and nasty.
Avatar m tn but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
Avatar n tn According to the manufactuer many of the symtoms you are experiencing could be from the Geodon. I suggest you contact your doctor immediately and express your concerns to him/her. There are many alternatives available that do not cause these side effects and remember that everyone is different, so side effects are often different for each person. So another medication may not be as difficult for you and sometimes initial side effects fade after taking the medication for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar m tn t gone away you could ask your psychiatrist about other available options. Tradazone is an anti-depressent used as a sleep aide. If that is no longer effective you could ask your psychiatrist about other available options one of which is Rozerem an FDA approved medication that works like melatonin to adjust the sleep cycle.
Avatar f tn From what I know Abilify and Geodon are weight neutral medications.
Avatar n tn My brother has been on 160mg Geodon since 2/2008. He is having severe memory problems. Is it due to Geodon? He has schizoaffective disorder. He was also put on cogentin and inderal.
Avatar f tn What are some good medications for bipolar other than topamax (what I am on now) that still make you lose weight? I have been on this medication for over 9 years and I am sick of going on and off of it because of the hair loss and bad side effects that it has, and I also cannot take my birth control pills on this pill or get pregnant in the future.
Avatar m tn //bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.html From Wikipedia in relation to your question about the heart problems associated with it: "It also slightly increases the QTc interval in some patients and increases the risk of a potentially lethal type of heart arrythmia known as torsades de pointes. Ziprasidone should be used cautiously in patients taking other medications likely to interact with ziprasidone or increase the QTc interval.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Anyways talked to my mom and she said she thinks I am having anxiety which makes so much more sense. So either it is because the Geodon is just not working or it is a side effect of it. Anyways I have been all kinds of messed up since I started taking the Geodon, you probably are making a good choice by not trying the Geodon.
Avatar f tn All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
Avatar m tn what meds are coverd on medicare that work very good for ur manic problems?? im on serquil 200 xr,s..there good but gain weight on them..i get them from family docky..wanting to find a shrink,,to put me on the right ones??PLESE HELP ME????????????????
1202354 tn?1267655734 I am on Topamax for my migrains and for weightloss, well I am taking Geodon as well for depression, my question is.... If I am taking geodon will the Geodon which can cause mild weight gain counter act the weight loss with the topamax??
1610967 tn?1314811101 I am currently taking Lithium, Cymbalta, and Geodon and I was wondering if anyone, that has taken these medications, has experienced their food tasting strange. I have been taking these medications for months now and this is a recent problem. I find that I don't want to eat and when I do it can taste a little off.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
Avatar n tn Well I can say for myself that I'd be concerned taking more than one anti-psychotic at a time. That's how I developed severe tardive dyskinesia to begin with which the rate of developing it as my psychopharmocologist stated "with typicals 5% per person per year and atypical antipsychotics 2.5% per person per year". Every antipsychotic you are one are atypical antipsychotics but I would see no reason you should be on more than one.
Avatar m tn seroquel doesn't come in the dissolve form but can be used as needed as is very good for some people with agitation and things like that. I use it for when everything gets to much and it makes me sleep it off.
1354001 tn?1281392593 However it generally is able to start to work more quickly than some other antipsychotics such as Zyprexa and Seroquel which take a long time to build up to a proper blood level (all this I was directly informed and remember from taking it). For some people Geodon can be sedating. However for others it can be activating. Both side effects can improve with time.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
Avatar f tn Your daughter has had a terrible time with her illness and with medications. As you know, respiratory dyskinesia is a rare side effect of antipsychotic medications. A search of the literature revealed 32 articles on this subject.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder since '95, but through a lot of research and getting completely sober I really feel that I actually have Borderline Personality Disorder with Severe Depression and Anxiety. I just got prescribed Lamictal because I've tried everything over the years and nothing works for long. I'm still on Topomax, Geodon, Prozac and Desyrel.
Avatar f tn Cymbalta is of course an anti-depressent. Geodon is an antipsychotic used for bipolar. But all of them together would tend to create cognitive confusion. You should speak to your psychiatrist about having your medications adjusted. And here are two sites that might be of help as well: http://www.psycheducation.org/depression/meds/moodstabilizers.htm http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.bipolar.html Discuss all this with your psychiatrist.
735919 tn?1236444549 I take 80mg of Geodon. I have been for a long time. I really respond to it. I get tired from Geodon. So I take it at night. Other than that, I have no side effects. Same with Lamictal. I take that also. Anti-psychotics tend to be on the more sedative side. Geodon can cause mania in some people so just watch out for that. But like I said, it is usually more sedative.
202665 tn?1248806733 But not knowing your current symptoms, I cannot say. I was on Geodon as a mood stabilizer for 2 1/2 years. For a long time, I was very satisfied with it. I have had a lot pf psychotic symptoms along with the bipolar disorder, and the Geodon really helped keep those at bay. I had few side effects, except once in a while, I did feel kind of like a zombie. It didn't cause any weight gain, which was nice.
Avatar f tn I had akathesia from all the current antipsychotics, Geodon included. The best thing to do is ask your psychiatrist for a side effect pill that can help mitigate this.
