Common Questions and Answers about What is filgrastim used for

neupogen

Avatar m tn Are you saying your mother in law has Leukemia? Filgastin or Neupogen is used for that. I don't know of other uses for it. She can't get it in the Philippines? If you can get a prescription from her doctor perhaps you can get it from a pharmacy here. Have a talk with a pharmacist here at one of the stores like Rite Aid, CVS any of those and see if they allow that.
1118724 tn?1357010591 I guess that my calc is wrong based on what you said -- I used your WBC of 15.5 plus the info on your chart, Neutrofils, 25, bands, 8, which is from another CBC I think I would have to see your actual CBC to believe your ANC calculation. I find it hard to believe that your neutrophils and neutrophils forming ar 91% of the total white blood cells in your body. What happened to your monocytes and your lymphocytes? What are all the numbers that compose the 100% of white blood cells?
Avatar n tn Right now, the low neutrophils can be remedied with filgrastim (Neupogen, Neulasta), but nothing is prescribed for low platelets (whites involved in clotting) except for reducing the interferon. There is a drug (eltrombopag) that stimulates platelet formation but the FDA has not approved it to go with the HCV treament drugs, so insurance may not cover it. It is always better to use the rescue drugs instead of reducing the peginterferon or riba, especially if you have not cleared yet.
493068 tn?1224765315 my stats seem to go up and down so I only have to take it now every 2 wks. It is unknown whether filgrastim (Neupogen) increases or decreasses an individual's risk of developing cancer. Based on limited long-term data from healthy people ( if a person is healthy why would they need neupogen in the first place ) who have received filgrastim, no long-term risks have been found so far. good luck to you....hope this helped!
Avatar f tn 4 They put me on Levaquin. My question, because their office is closed... what are they measuring?... I was feeling pretty yucky & neglected to ask.
1986676 tn?1329862471 com/ds/neupogen/back+pain I really have no idea what to do about pain caused by the drugs, especially if it is from Neupogen. It is not exactly the same as regular back pain from which a person can sometimes get relief from various things, activities, positions, exercises, etc. I wonder if people on a cancer forum would have any ideas. It might be worth a try to see.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar f tn Several people here have used it. Actually, what gets whacked is a component of the WBC call neutrophils - sometime referred absolute neutrophils or ANCs. These are a separate line item on a CBC report. Docs invoke the use of Neupogen at at different levels. I found the use of Neup to be a non-event, no side effects. Others expereince bone pain and injection site soreness. It's much better to use Neupogen than to reduce the dose of the Peg.
476246 tn?1418870914 Zolfram--for NAUSEA!! has been a lifesaver for me... It is expensive so hope you have insurance... I take Procrit and Neupogen shots too...they have kept me on treatment..
Avatar m tn Interferon can cause a condition called ‘neutropenia’ or the suppression of white blood cells necessary to fight infection. In some countries, the drug Neupogen (filgrastim) is available to combat this, and to keep patients on full dose HCV meds. Filgrastim and PEG-filgrastim are relatively expensive; and they might not be available in all areas.
687700 tn?1227103821 Neulasta is the expensive pegylated counterpart of neupogen. Same drug (filgrastim). Otherwise all you can do is reduce the interferon and it's generally considered better not to do that before you've cleared the virus. I don't know of any ways to reduce your risk of infection. What are you thinking of when you say that, please?
962875 tn?1314210036 My sister is being treated for breast cancer ( IDC, triple negative status, Grade 3, Stage 2B, post lumpectomy with clear margins, 1 node out of 11 positive, also removed with clear margins), and with soon start a chemotherapy protocol which will begin with AC. Her oncologist plans to give her an injection of Neulasta (pegfilgrastim ) each week during this phase of tx.
Avatar m tn The range is between 6500 and 1400 for WBC and 4700 and 260 for ANC. Doctors unable to give any explanation for such wide variations on a dose to dose basis. Till date, I have also taken 5 doses of Filgrastim - the WBC Stimulator. Can you pleae advice possible reasons for such wide fluctuations.
Avatar f tn Neupogen is a new med for him, also Procrit is another new med for him. Obviously I have gotten some spellings incorrect. What I want to do is look up these meds and make a document for him that is easier to read regarding side effects, etc. But, this is not possible until I find someone who knows how to spell these meds, and/or maybe knows something about their side effects personally. Would someone out there please help me with this?
1253246 tn?1332073310 Ok so what is absolute Neutrophils and how does it fit into the equasion for treatment?
Avatar f tn Neulasta is a peglated version of Neupogen which is also know as filgrastim. It's used to stimulate production of neutrophils, a component of whilte blood cells. It can be taken less often than regular 'ol Neupogen. I found it rougher than Neupgen in that it had some side effects, mainly bone pain. I found Neupogen to be side-less. Aranesp is Darbepoetin Alfa which is like Procrit (epo). It is also taken less often than Procrit.
1391695 tn?1298139789 My GI and hemotologist seem to be confused about an issue early in my tx that is causing me trouble. My WBC and ANC is low, 2.1 and 700. My hemo gave me Neupogen 480 shot tonight, and I'm going back in the morning to get another one. It seems as though my nice GI and not nice hemo don't have much experience with Neupogen and Interferon. So I am faced with convincing my GI tomorrow that I can take my 3rd shot tomorrow night.
Avatar m tn Neup works for the most part all of the time, however is it your ANC (absolute neutrophils) that usually would dictate whether neup is need or not. best ..
Avatar f tn t know what the dosage requirements are for Neulasta but it is not taken as often as Neupogen. My experience with Neupogen was 1 injection per week initally, then 2 and several times I was reduced to half dosage or skipped several weeks because my WBC was high. It's a balancing act and usually those on Neupogen require more blood draws than those who are not taking it. I thought it was some nasty stuff.
