Common Questions and Answers about What is asacol ne

asacol

Avatar m tn I woke up and was told that I had an absolutely beautiful large intestine. The biopsies also came back normal. So my question here is what the hell? If there is no active disease will a biopsy come back with a normal result? If this is not Crohn's then what are the differentials. I also often have an itchy spot around my anus, bright red streaks of blood on occasion due to over whiping or hemmoroids and frequent canker sores in my mouth. Thanks for any help offered.
Avatar m tn m not sure that it is better than Asacol, but I think it is easier and equal in performance. You might ask your doctor if they have any prescription cards for Lialda. My doctor was given cards from Lialda, which you can use with your insurance. The cards allow you to never pay more than $25 for a month's supply of Lialda. Otherwise, it is extremely expensive. It will depend on your insurance on what it will cost, but before the card and after insurance, it was going to be $497 for me.
Avatar f tn No, one ct with iv contrast was performed on my abdomen, the other ct was done on my lungs also with iv contrast, all normal. I've had uc for 8 years and this feels somewhat like a flare up but not totally,I started asacol three days ago it has helped with the pain on my right side and rectum ,and no my dr did not mention a colonoscopy. Also I've not had all symtoms of a flare so I'm not sure what is going on......... sorry it took so long to get back busy mom........
1483944 tn?1288100910 It has happened in the past, it is strange that he changed the diagnosis. Prednisone and Asacol and staple drugs in both Crohn's and colitis, and if you were put on them it makes sense that the doc saw inflammation when you were tested and diagnosed it as Crohn's. It could be that the medications were working and upon further testing the inflammation was reduced to the extent that the doctor felt the initial diagnosis was wrong, when in fact you were going into remission.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
89592 tn?1391274422 Have you had a biopsy? What labs make them think this is so? My labs are all normal but US said Fatty Liver which I believe is same as heterogeneous liver? I have been freaking out about Cirrhosis and have an appt tomorrow to discuss labs/US with Dr. Thanks!!
Avatar m tn The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info...I was getting too anxious for the Asacol to work as this is day 5. I was worried that it could be Crohns Disease as My Brother died from Crohns. My Dr. said my Blood Markers did not show for Crohns...however, I am waiting on test results for Celiac. I appreciate your time, Thank You.
Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
Avatar n tn There have been a few cases of liver failure possibly related to the use of mesalamine (the active ingredient in Asacol HD), but I haven't read anything about fatty liver as a side effect. A fatty liver, it takes between 6 months and 2 years to fully reverse. Dr Sandra Cabot's article "Fatty Liver - What Is Fatty Liver And How To Reverse It?
Avatar f tn t been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Try to stay away from dairy, alcohol, grains (have rice instead). If you can figure out what triggered the flare, that would be helpful so you know to avoid it in the future.
Avatar m tn for the past 2 months i been feeling like i have something stuck in my throat yesterday i hate a pizza and my chest was burning and was getting tight i just want to know what is the symptoms of gerd
Avatar m tn Told my doc, he said it was probably in my head and wrote a new script for a different form of Mesalamine (which is what Asacol is). I decided to pursue all other options before trying this medication.
Avatar n tn he doesnt seem to be getting better with these things, the asacol or steroids one seem to help the bleeding but he is developing so many other symptoms i dont know what to do. i keep telling the doctors he is a sick little boy but because he is very talkative they think he isnt that sick. its a behavioral thing and they dont understand. Hes also getting a lot of depression now. Please, please, help him.
1446077 tn?1284510191 I take Codeine for pain but now even thats not working This is getting me down so much, I am not sleeping y appetite is coming and going and it is really depressing me, I am unable to work right now and it is driving me crazy! I would love to be able to work and live a normal life!
277836 tn?1359666174 He should also prescribe asacol (2.4g daily) or similar- this should be continued daily- and is an ongoing drug to keep you in remission. If your symptoms are not so severe he should try the asacol, starting at 2.4mg and increasing to 4g if necessary. He can also try pentasa enema or pred enemas before putting you on the oral steroids. You need to get this under control ASAP, as it will get worse, if left untreated. Pred may be a necessary evil but only for short-term use.
Avatar f tn Hello, Honestly I don't know that much about crohns and of course you would have to go with what your doctors tell you. But, a good book is "Physician, Heal Thyself" by Jordan Rubin. He was diagnosed with Crohns and basically healed himself (pretty much nearly died from it) - and then he became a doctor. He had other books as well. They are at the library. He has one called "The Maker's Diet".
