Does anyone know what to take for an alternative to Aggrenox? I had a TIA almost 4 years ago and was put on Aggrenox, well, my husband will be losing his job in a week due to the economy which also means we will be losing our health insurance as well. I asked my doctor if he could take me off it and put me on something else and all he said was he would prefer I stayed on Aggrenox. I don't think we can afford it because it is $305 for a month supply!
But he already have completed catheterization in 2005 that showed three-vessel disease, with most arteries having 90% occlusion. His new cardiologist wants to do Isotope testing, his old cardiologist sees no benefit in this testing. And we are in between.
My question is:
- Should this isotope testing be done after catheterization? What new infromation could be gained from that?
- Since adenosine or dobutamine be used as stimulants, what kind of danger could it be?

While you are taking Aggrenox (aspirin/dipyridamole), you should avoid taking over-the-counter pain medicine, especially any other products containing aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Also, Avoid alcohol, or drink a minimal amount, as the combination of Aggrenox and alcohol could cause stomach bleeding.
I suffered a mild stroke (blood clot) Consultant prescribed Clopidogrel but cannot tolerate side effects. Then consultant prescribed Dipyridamole. I cannot tolerate this either. Severe headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Has anybody got a different medication they are on?
My brother is 61 years old. In the past 2 month, his heartbeats frequently skipping. Smokers for 40 years, recently quit. Has type II diabetic for 15 years. ECG last month showed SVES, RBBB. This week he has stress test with dipyridamole protocol, and injection of thallium-201. The result showed "evidence of mild, small to medium size, irreversible perfusion defect in the inferior/inferolateral wall (mid to basal level)." Could you explain what this means?
Some of the alternatives include aspirin, Clopidogrel (Plavix), ticlodipine (Ticlid), dipyridamole (Persantine). Another alternative is Heparin injection. Different situations require different levels of anticoagulation. It is important to discuss the best treatment option with a physician.
Pharmacological stress Tc-99m MIBI scan was performed with Dipyridamole given at arate of 0.14 mg/Kg/min over 4 minutes followed by injection of radio tracer 6 minutes later.
Findings are: Peak stress images revealed hypoperfused infero-septal and apical segment, which showed reversal at rest.
Impression: Findings are consistent with infero-septal and apical reversible ischemia.

Check out if he is upset by anything in his life has anything new happened , a move a new Baby ,a loss of any Family member,very often there have been happenings that have triggered the behavior, what do his Teachers say, does he get on with them , does he like school.No point in punishing him unless you know what has caused it .
