Are the side effects listed on the manufacturer's insert? Maybe talking to your pharmacist would help.
I haven't read the side effects from Warfarin for some time as I have been taking it for about 15 years.. and I have none of the side effects you list. I am 74, so near your age and I suffer from many of the problems of aging which may be the root "problem", not the Warfarin.
There is a newer (out for a few years for use in the USA) that is very different from Warfarin, but I can say I've seen class-action law suits advertized on TV concerning that drug.
I'm not a doctor, just a patient who has been on warfarin for the past eight years. I had a mechanical heart valve implanted in 2004. I'm medically literate, and I've tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert.
I'm on Coumadin have recently had my dose increased to 2 ml I have same effects but as I had a P E doc said I have no choice but to put up with the side effects as I have been worse since the increase I'm thinking of lowering the dose back to 1 and a half ml
thanks for your reply, i was taking 80mg twice a day, because of my symptoms my cardiologist has reduced this yesterday to 40mg twice a day, i have never had chest problems till i started taking sotalol, i also noticed i cannot eat anything sweet if makes me feel even more sick, the other med i am on is warfarin. i get afib because i have a hole in my heart which is enlarged on 1 side.
I agree, some/most medications have some noticeable side-effects. For example, Warfarin makes my bleed more freely if I get a cut or otherwise rupture a blood vessel. But, if I keep the level just right, I don't bruise for no reason, or have gums that bleed if I brush too hard, and I don't form clots, so no stroke, GREAT! I can live, even well, with the side effects and it keeps me alive and not a cripple.

Side effects of Warfarin or coumadin include severe headache, dizziness, fainting, unusual or persistent tiredness, bloody/black/tarry stools, chest pain, shortness of breath,difficulty swallowing and swelling or sudden weight gain. If you observe these symptoms, inform your doctor for proper management.Coumadin can cause serious bleeding and this is the reason your INR should be monitored. Take care and do keep us posted.
I did let my EP guy know about it, and he said just one of the side effects. So I just monitored it and had to not brush my teeth so vigorously. But I ate what I wanted to, no PT/INR checks.
Pradaxa works by directly inhibiting the clotting factor thrombin, the amount of vitamin K in the diet does not matter.
Pradaxa is taken twice a day, shorter life in the body and is cleared from the body quicker than coumadin (warfarin).
My father is 79 years old, he is heart patient plus high blood pressure, He is having regular medicine for 7 years.He had angioplasty about 5 years back. The pain was gone before but now a days he is having strokes almost everyday and doctor recommended to do angioplasty again. My question is
1. Is it good to do angioplasty again for the 79yrs old man. moreover he had side effect of knee pain problem & constipation problem from the regular medicine & angioplasty??
I have suffered with taking diltiazem(180 mg ER) AND metoprolol (50 mg ER) for atril fibrillation for the past two and a half years. The side effects have been debilitating.. Both drugs have the same side effects and together and one or the other or both create what I can only describe as chaotic turbulence in my chest and pain in my left arm when the second drug kicks in.. My cardiolgist now wants me to add a blood thinner (xarelto) to my meds menu.
Facial rashes, night sweats and the closing of my throat. That is when I stopped using Bactrim. All other side effects are gone except for the closing of my throat that comes on and off, especially when I'm done eating. It's been going on for 2 weeks (since my last bactrim dose). It doesn't make my breathing or eating any difficult but is just very annoying. It stopped for 2 days and happened one late night, 2-3 hours after drinking alcohol.
It seems to be a great alternative to warfarin but has a draw back or two. A drawback to Pradaxa is there is no drug to give you to bring your INR back to normal should you need to do it quickly. This would be needed if you were in and accident of some kind or needed to have a procedure. With warfarin, they give you a vitamin K shot. A good thing about Pradaxa is that it is not affected by foods.
t understand why being on Warfarin would prevent you from going back to work, it has few side effects for most people is held in the INR range of 2-3. If you happen to suffer a cut, you will bleed more because of Warfarin, but most minor cuts are not a problem. The same, to a lesser degree, can be said about aspirin.
5 years long when I was in NSR, but I always go back to AFib. Yes, I too would have preferred not to be on warfarin when in NSR...but my cardiologist was concerned that I might go into AFib while sleeping and go back into NSR when I wake up and not know that I was having periods of AFib.
As said, I use warfarin, noting it too has risks and problems.

5 years my cardiologist suggests me to change to warfarin + asprin theraphy. I am scared of warfarin due to its side effects and risks.
What are my risks if I continue with my currrent asprin+clopidogrel dual anticoagulant theraphy?
Shall appreciate advice or sharing your experience with these drugs or necessity of changing over from one drug to another?.
