t understand why being on Warfarin would prevent you from going back to work, it has few side effects for most people is held in the INR range of 2-3. If you happen to suffer a cut, you will bleed more because of Warfarin, but most minor cuts are not a problem. The same, to a lesser degree, can be said about aspirin.

As far as the Coumadin, I am on it as well. A pain, literally. All the blood checking that goes with it, but it does save lives. 2009 sure has been a hardship for both of us. I do hope 2010 brings better things.

Never worked for me but, it does for some so definitely worth a try.

I am starting the slimfast program tomorrow. My question is does it really work? I am also in a wheel chair..But i do get my legs walking 1 or 2 hours a day .

It is much more costly than warfarin and it is not covered by Medicare. There are lots of ads on TV about this drug. It seems to be a great alternative to warfarin but has a draw back or two. A drawback to Pradaxa is there is no drug to give you to bring your INR back to normal should you need to do it quickly. This would be needed if you were in and accident of some kind or needed to have a procedure. With warfarin, they give you a vitamin K shot.

Rosenfeld) said the new drug does not require any blood tests (protime) and does not have the bleeding problems of Warfarin. He said it is being evaluated by the US FDA. Sounds like good news to me, and AFig sufferer.

hi , thank you 4 your reply , my doctor is not very good , the dvt was found by accident , i did not have any swelling in my leg at all , i went to the doctor with a constant headache , i have had this headache for 9 weeks now , it never goes , anyway since being on warfarin it has got steadily worse my ears pop and i have pain in my neck and shoulders and across my middle back , the bottom of my back is really painful, i went back to the doctors last week because both of my calfs were hurting

Just had my first followup visit with cardio doc and he switched me from warfarin to Prodaxa. Anyone have any experience with Prodaxa? It sounds too good to be true! No blood tests, no food interaction, etc.

Hi, my mom is 81 yrs. old. She gets out of breath just walking a few steps.. She's on dialysis three times a week for three hrs. She has pneumonia for about a month and she has had x-rays done on her lungs when she went in to have blood work done (she's on warfarin). The doctor didn't like the looks of the x-rays and had her take a CT scan. They found a knot on her lung. She'll be seeing a lung doctor next week. Should I be concern she might have cancer?

The important thing is to be educated, know your last INR and where the physician wants it, go get the labs exactly as ordered. I think that it is not common for clotting and bleeding if the regime is followed exactly. There may not be any alternative, depending on the severity of AF, and other risk factors.
