Avatar m tn they made it originally to kill rats they would put it in the bait the rats would eat it and they would become thirsty so they would leave the nest for water and bleed to death out in the open and not in the hiding place
Avatar n tn Do to a leg blood clot I've been taking warfarin (7.5) for three years. I am 62 years old and very active. I weight lift, jog, and ride a bike. Will I have to take warfarin all of my life or at some point can I discontinue it?
Avatar f tn Warfarin was first developed as a pesticide because it was noted how a small dose of anticoagulant would cause rats and mice to hemorrhage to death. So it was deliberately developed as an anticoagulant and it was found to have other uses, such as saving lives in humans suffering a thrombus. Warfarin would affect just about any living thing with a blood stream, so it isn't really just rat poison.
612551 tn?1450022175 Rosenfeld) said the new drug does not require any blood tests (protime) and does not have the bleeding problems of Warfarin. He said it is being evaluated by the US FDA. Sounds like good news to me, and AFig sufferer.
535822 tn?1443976780 I thought of that but what if they bit her , ?I wish I hadnt got the darn place ,,rats to rats I have been online and put in Humane way of getting rid of rats .It said there was some kind of electronic gadget ,I may check that out ,maybe it electrocutes them ..yuck but better than bait that takes days ..and they wander half dead round your bedroom.....Scream..........
Avatar f tn I also know that warfarin can be a pain in the you know what. I was also on it for 6 months, but it does do what it is designed to do as long as you follow your doctor's instructions....and don't worry, rats basically eat the equivialent of a brick of that stuff while we take a little pill. I also didn't like the fact that I had to stop playing sports and keep my INR in the therapeutic range.
Avatar n tn I have a schipperke/rat terrier mix. I find she has more rat terrier tendencies, especially after all that I've read about each breed. This morning I couldn't find her (Cricket) out back. After searching I found her hiding in the shrub. I was offering her a treat and she wouldn't come which is when I knew there was a problem. When I reached her, there was a dying rat at her feet. I almost screamed!
Avatar m tn You have a lot going on in your body that could make you feel bad, beside taking warfarin, and the warfarin is probably the least likely culprit. The amount of warfarin that any given individual has to take to stay within an INR range of 2.0 to 3.0 (which is probably what the doctors mean when they tell you they want you at 2.5) will vary, depending on how rapidly that person's body can metabolize and excrete the warfarin.
Avatar f tn I would get second opinion and I know how u feel as I have dvt in my left leg and the clot went to my heart and lungs.
351404 tn?1299489130 it lasted for a couple of days, spontaneously reverted (as it always does so far) and I was placed on Warfarin. Two AF free months later, I was taken off Warfarin and put on low dose daily aspirin. Now bradycardia has also been diagnosed and a future pacemaker is on the cards if my condition worsens. I write to ask what is the alarm level at which I ought to seek further intervention.
Avatar n tn My adopted RT is afraid of Rats and needs a companion who can show him how it is done and inspire him to take on Ratting. If you have a Rat Terrier who is good at Rat Catching please respond.
233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Avatar m tn Boost your learning capacity For the latest study, researchers fed aging rats a blueberry-enriched diet for one or two months. They also sent the rats through a series of mazes to test their cognitive ability. The faster the rat got through the maze, the better its score. The first time the aging rats ran through the maze, they scored badly. But after eating a diet filled with blueberries they all performed better, even the rats who were fed blueberries for just one month.
Avatar f tn With AFib you need some anticoagulant protection. A better protection is to use Coumadin or Warfarin. They require a prescription, but the generic Warfarin is available at very low cost, e.g., Walmart. The bigger cost for being on an anticoagulant is getting the blood tests to be sure the level of medication is right. But given you can't take aspirin (did you take them with food?), there doesn't seem to be another choice. I do not know anything about Ginseng...
Avatar m tn and im on warfarin ( blood thinner)? any info on this..thanks james......i have d.vt. had a pulmonary embolism in 2000.
Avatar m tn I don't understand why being on Warfarin would prevent you from going back to work, it has few side effects for most people is held in the INR range of 2-3. If you happen to suffer a cut, you will bleed more because of Warfarin, but most minor cuts are not a problem. The same, to a lesser degree, can be said about aspirin.
Avatar f tn Please call your doctor urgently and ask for a change in prescription. Since warfarin does not suit you, you need to be put on another anticoagulant. Also, yes, your INR should be monitored while you are only any anticoagulant. Maybe the blood tests you had also included INR. Please immediately contact your doctor and do not repeat the medication. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn However, when I visited the Cardiologist for the first time last Wednesday he informed me that neither he nor any of the other Cardiologists wanted me to continue taking Warfarin, and that they wanted me to switch over to one 81 mg baby aspirin a day. Does this make any sense, and if so, what is their reasoning? This discussion is related to How long to stay on Tykosin .
Avatar n tn Well before any decision is made for something like Warfarin, you should have your INR (clotting factor) tested. An INR of 1 is how long normal blood takes to clot. An INR of 2 means it take twice as long and so it goes on. Aspirin and Clopidogrel (plavix) I believe attack the clotting mechanisms in different ways. Personally I don't think they know the long term outcomes.
Avatar m tn Stroke CAN kill. V-fib without prompt treatment WILL kill. Within 45 seconds after you go into v-fib - i.e. your heart stops pumping - you WILL lose consciousness. Within 3 minutes of onset of v-fib without treatment (CPR or cardioversion) your brain starts to die. Stroke CAN kill but absent VERY PROMPT treatment v-fib WILL INVARIABLY KILL YOU. Hence medication for rate control.
Avatar f tn You literally have to get it in your mouth, you don't have to just breathe it in. Have you been around cats before? My doctor said if you've been around cats before your risk of getting it are lowered dramatically, it's usually for first time pet owners getting a cat while pregnant (even if it's rats your worried about). I would put out some traps, it's something not very commonly an issue I really wouldn't lose sleep over it.
