Avatar n tn My husband recently passed away from a hemorrhagic stroke. The doctor said hypertension was the cause. There seemed to be no warning signs except on the day it happened. He had a terrible headache and went downhill from there. He was taking all his medication--plavix, 325 mg of asprin, blood pressure medicine, etc. and was doing fine. He did have very bad back pain but finally got relief and was back to himself for a month and a half. This stroke came on so suddenly....
Avatar n tn I've been on 4mg/day warfarin since Jun/10, after a very minor stroke. I don't like it as it entails blood check every 7-10 days just to ascertain the right blood thickness. Would a right dose of aspirin be adequate substitute for warfarin?
Avatar f tn Hi my fiance is 46 & he had a hemorrhagic stroke on left side of the brain while at work on April 26, 2010. He never complained of headaches to me, but I could feel something was different. He luckily was working close to the hospital. He collapsed and hit his head on a piece of equipment. He had emergency surgery and they removed a bloodclot 3/4 size of baseball. Just today he opened both eyes and it was fabulous. The Dr.
Avatar n tn my 48 yr old mom had a Hemorrhagic stroke on the 26.05.2008. After 5months in hospital, she just came home yesterday. The neuro doc said it was a large bleed in the left side of her brain, which has left her paralysed on her right side. Mom has no speech whatsoever but she does understand and recognise us.
Avatar n tn I'm 27/M/Single. Unfortunatley 2 years back i was undergone for the treatment of Hemorrhagic Stroke on the right side of my brain which made my left body paralysed. I've never experienced a head-ache or any kind of major illness before the stroke and i don't booze or smoke. Got recovered 90-95% over the days after the medication from neurologist (15-20 days) & psychotherapy ( 2 months ) . i'm still using Eptoin as part of my medication.
Avatar m tn Hi,my 57 year old mother suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, she was pretty healty before this, but she does smoke. The doc said it was 4 cm and it was on her left side, her vision is affected and her capability to read. She was in the hospital 5 days, her blood pressure, blood work, everything looks good which is very weird!Other then that she was conscious all the time,no memory loss or anything like that. My question is why the docs didn't give her any medication while in the hospital or after?
Avatar n tn Treatment of stroke depends on whether the stroke is ischemic or hemorrhagic and on the underlying cause of the condition. The long-term goals of treatment include rehabilitation and prevention of additional strokes. In your uncle’s case it could be ischaemic or hemorrhagic stroke due to high BP. If it is a ischaemic infarct, anti platelet drugs, anti coagulants and thrombolytics are employed in the treatment. If it is hemorrhagic infarct the hematoma needs to be evacuated with surgery.
Avatar n tn My husband had a stroke in the right side of his brain. He had one of the worst kinds of stroke...a hemorrhagic stroke where the blood vessel bursts and leaks blood inside the brain killing the cells it touches. Doctors didn't think he'd make it. My husband is fully functioning. He talks, walks, fixes his own food, drives...just like someone that never had a stroke. He does have double vision because of the stroke.
1488195 tn?1288153991 Warfarin is an anti-platelet medciation that helps prevent blood clots or prevent the clot from growing larger and is appropriate and adequate medication for the intended purpose. However, a stroke can occur from hard plaque that breaks away from the vessel lining, etc. (low probability of happening) Hope this helps and thanks for the question. Take care.
Avatar f tn These drugs arent only used for heart disease. I had a stroke due to a 100 percent occlusion of the carotid artery. After being on warfarin and plavix separatelyI had a TIA ,I am currently on both, and so far so good.Is this normal that my bleeding and bruising disappeared after combing the two drugs? i am happy but confused. Thanks Terry926 This discussion is related to Plavix vs Coumadin.
Avatar f tn Do you know if your father had an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke? The full extent of the damage done to his brain may not manifest for months. Contrary to popular belief, cognitive function declines with time after a stroke. Watch this 4-min. YouTube video, D. Levine, MD et al., "Trajectory of Cognitive Decline After Incident Stroke," available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?
1013028 tn?1250923267 Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin. If clots occur heparin followed by warfarin ( coumadin )is usually prescribed. Higher-than-usual doses of warfarin may be needed. Warfarin or Coumadin is prescribed to prevent strokes arising from atrial fibrillation and DVTs forming in the legs usually.
Avatar f tn In severe cases, increased pressure can cause the arteries in the brain to rupture and cause a hemorrhagic (bleed) stroke. All the best to your mom http://www.savingthebrain.
Avatar f tn Eliquis which belongs to a class of drugs called Factor Xa inhibitors is a new generation oral anticoagulant / blood thinning drug and is expected to replace warfarin the current gold standard treatment for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. The clinical data on Eliquis in atrial fibrillation is most impressive, when compared to Xarelto or Pradaxa.
Avatar m tn I'm a 47 year old male permanent afib have been on warfarin for 1 year by ep doctor because he wanted to convert me and put me on flecanide I opted not to take the drug because it does'nt realy bother me and he told me I don't need to take warfarin anymore because I'm otherwise cardio healthy and to just take a 325 aspirin, but my primary doc wants me to stay on warfarin, so I have been staying on warfarin until 2 days ago went to doc for something else and his assistant looked a
Avatar f tn Because I did not want to risk a stroke, I chose to fight and figure out how to make warfarin management work. So I made an appointment with a dietitian associated with with my coumadin clinic. That paid off in many ways. I learned to manage all the foods with vitamin K. I eat a consistent level of dark greens which helps me level out and stay in the therapeutic range. Because I am diligent, I have been able to lower my warfarin dose and stay around 2.5.
Avatar n tn My 79 year old husband suffered a hemorrhagic stroke on 11/18/08. Before the stroke he was very active and seemed to be in generally good health. Since the stroke, he does not have use of his left side(leg or arm), but he does speak and eats regular food. He spent 10 days in the hospital and then went to a rehab facility. After 5 days he was sent back to the hospital with pneumonia.
368646 tn?1208393887 Can the reactivation of HSV-1 cause a hemorrhagic stroke (burst of cavernou hemangioma)? Are there any tests that can be done to show this? My Neurologist has done an MRI of the brain, but she says my deficits are from the stroke. After over three years and no progress, I'd like to explore this possibility, especially since many things worsen right before menstruaion. Thank you for your time!
3287038 tn?1398422427 Your mother is taking both aspiring and warfarin which means that she may have an associated history of coronary disease (and aspirin is being used to prevent further blockages to the coronaries or blood vessels supplying the heart muscle) or that she is considered to be at a very high risk of stroke (perhaps due to her age, EF of 25% and Afib) and warfarin by itself isn’t enough.
Avatar f tn I was curious if the standard, acute treatment for a hemorrhagic stroke included an emergency vent shunt. My sixty one year old father suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke 10 months ago. He received a CT scan upon arrival at the emergency room where they determined he had a hemorrhagic stroke. At that point he was considered a 3 on the Glasgow coma scale.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had a surgical procedure last Thursday that required I stop all anticoagulant (warfarin) and aspirin (low dose) 5 days before the procedure. I recall my cardiologist being uncomfortable with the length of time I would be without clot prevention medications. I have permanent atrial fibrillation, so my heart is in the clot production mode 24/7. I have been back on warfarin and aspirin for two days and believe my INR is back in the 2-3 range.
Avatar n tn I had a hemorrhagic stroke in '03. It was a malformation of the Basilar Artery. Perhaps that's what she means. I am no doctor, so you'll want to do your own research on this, but from what I have read, the Basilar Artery is one of the main pathways for blood to reach the brain.
Avatar n tn Hello daughter had a eschemic stroke traumatic. She was in hospital for about three months to be stabalized. At home now . three months.
Avatar f tn Hello, I was wondering if anybody else has had this experience and what the outcome was. My 67 year old father had a hemorrhagic stroke on June 13. It was on the front right lobe of his brain, they preformed surgery to stop the bleeding. That was a success, about 5 days later he began to wake up, was able to talk in small sentences and was eating and drinking water and soft food. A few days later he began have siezures, we were unable to tell he was having them but an eeg confirmed he was.
Avatar n tn The treatment for clots in the ventricle is warfarin. The clots usually become firm and do not embolize with time. If it is still soft clot, the warfarin will help to slowly reduce the size of it. There isn't much else that needs to be done now. I understand your concern about stroke. The longer you go on warfarin, the less likely you are to have a stroke from that source.
