Avatar f tn I am 72 and have suffered from AFib for about 15 years. I have been on Warfarin all that time, generic for Coumadin. I have been in normal sinus rhythmn during part of that time but remained on Warfarin just in case. I have been in permanent AFib since April 2007, except for about 30 days of NSR following my open heart surgery in 2007 to repair my mitral valve repair. This means my left atrium in ins fibrillation all the time, 24 hours a day.
1488195 tn?1288153991 I'm 85 and have been on Warfarin for 3 years. #1 - Is this the best treatment? #2 - Even taking thinners, can I stroke out at any time?
1069105 tn?1256700412 She was discharged from the hospital after 1 to 2 days. She is now back on Warfarin (with the same cardiologist who recruited her for the Apaxiban vs Warfarin clinical trial back in 8/’09.) Daily BP: B4 breakfast - 140 PM & eve- 120 She take her BP medicine after breakfast.
Avatar f tn These drugs arent only used for heart disease. I had a stroke due to a 100 percent occlusion of the carotid artery. After being on warfarin and plavix separatelyI had a TIA ,I am currently on both, and so far so good.Is this normal that my bleeding and bruising disappeared after combing the two drugs? i am happy but confused. Thanks Terry926 This discussion is related to Plavix vs Coumadin.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I am going to a different hospital for oncology and they want me to discontinue Warfarin 7 days before and use a Lovenox bridge injection for the interim. I called my regular EP and they say no need. What would you do? 7 days seems a long time without blood thinner -- I'm on it because I'm at risk for strokes, right? Any comments and/or advice would be welcome. Also, any pep talks welcome!
Avatar f tn Eliquis which belongs to a class of drugs called Factor Xa inhibitors is a new generation oral anticoagulant / blood thinning drug and is expected to replace warfarin the current gold standard treatment for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. The clinical data on Eliquis in atrial fibrillation is most impressive, when compared to Xarelto or Pradaxa.
Avatar m tn I'm a 47 year old male permanent afib have been on warfarin for 1 year by ep doctor because he wanted to convert me and put me on flecanide I opted not to take the drug because it does'nt realy bother me and he told me I don't need to take warfarin anymore because I'm otherwise cardio healthy and to just take a 325 aspirin, but my primary doc wants me to stay on warfarin, so I have been staying on warfarin until 2 days ago went to doc for something else and his assistant looked a
Avatar f tn I have recently been put on Warfarin for Paroxysmal Atrial Fib. I feel miserable and anxious on this drug. They continue to up my dose, 11mg. at present. I have decided to quit the Warfarin but wonder how to go about this. Do I quit cold turkey or taper off? Anyone else has quit Warfarin and how did you do it?
Avatar n tn Hello daughter had a eschemic stroke traumatic. She was in hospital for about three months to be stabalized. At home now . three months.
6644456 tn?1383330685 If the blood thinning is not adequate with aspirin and plavix, you will need warfarin to prevent complications like stroke. Its best to try conservative methods first. Regards.
Avatar n tn The treatment for clots in the ventricle is warfarin. The clots usually become firm and do not embolize with time. If it is still soft clot, the warfarin will help to slowly reduce the size of it. There isn't much else that needs to be done now. I understand your concern about stroke. The longer you go on warfarin, the less likely you are to have a stroke from that source.
Avatar n tn ve tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert. To my way of thinking, the experts are the hematologists, pharmacists, and other health professionals who manage large numbers of people's warfarin on a daily basis.
Avatar n tn t pin point where his heart was misfiring and they said there was no reason why it is going on. About 3 months now it comes for 2 weeks and then it is gone for 2 weeks. Why the pattern? His Arrhythmia is like his heart skips a beat. I can put my head on his chest and hear it. It sound like it stops for a split second. Have you every heard of the pattern 2 weeks on 2 weeks off?
Avatar n tn The rsik of stroke is higher when in Afib than when not. However, for true statistics, i recommend you look on the american heart association website under their entry for a-fib. Being on blood thinner is the right course of action. Talk to a professional about the true risk differential. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn If the A-Fib has been occurring for 2 days or more, then they will usually administer warfarin for a few weeks before the shock because there would otherwise be a very high risk of stroke. The Warfarin (anti clotting medication) would also be given for several weeks after the shock. The key factor is finding the cause of the A-Fib, for example the thyoid gland.
Avatar m tn Sorry to hear about your friends. In my opinion, Warfarin (Coumadin) is a very safe drug as long as the patient RELIGIOUSLY takes it exactly as ordered and goes in for regular lab work as often as the physician orders. That may be weekly in the beginning or at other times when the INR may be unstable. There are a number of medications that can interfere with Warfarin, as well as certain foods. Always ask the pharmacist before taking any new drug, especially over the counter ones.
Avatar f tn A clot would have probably meant being on Warfarin. A carotid artery dissection does not directly cause a stroke, dissection means tear, so what likely happened is that the tear clotted, separated from the injury and traveled to the brain. While BP could make it easier to dislodge the clots your doctor should have discussed the reasons behind the stroke and BP. He must not be on Warfain, since that would need to be checked every couple of weeks to keep his INR within acceptable ranges.
Avatar f tn i know that plavix was not designed for Afib, but could that be used for stroke prevention instead of coumadin when the individual can not tolerate coumadin and longer? we are searching for anything that could provide a better quality of life for him and since the coumadin is clearly effecting his memory he has said that he's about done with it and wants to just get off of it.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn My father in law has lived with asymptomatic AF for 27 years now. Warfarin is all he takes and also statin for cholesterol. He has done well although he has had nose bleeds that required rare ER visits.
