Common Questions and Answers about Warfarin and internal bleeding

Avatar n tn I was put on Warfarin immediately and have been on it ever since. Six weeks after starting the Warfarin, I had another TEE and the clots were 90% gone. They tried for seven and a half hours to do the ablation, but were not successful unfortunately. I will be on the Warfarin forever, but that is fine because you can’t eat leafy green veggies when you are on it and I despise green veggies so now I have the best excuse not to eat them.
Avatar n tn However, all blood thinners are liable to cause internal bleeding into the organs, hence please do not start any medication on your own. Please consult your treating doctor. Take care!
Avatar f tn I had a severe DVT and took warfarin for six months. I was taken off it per my former MD and then had a near-fatal PE from another clot! I was taking aspirin when I had the PE. If you read the literature, even therapeutic levels of warfarin won't guarantee preventing subsequent clots. If I were you, I'd get the second opinion but STAY ON WARFARIN FOR LIFE and make the necessary adjustments. I also have no known genetic predispositions to DVT.
Avatar n tn If bruising keeps spreading after a week and whilst takinh warfarin, should I consult my doctor
Avatar f tn Hi i suffer from blood clots i suffered a PE, arterial clots and dvt all at the same time, i also clotted while on warfarin in hospital so the doctors want my inr higher than most between 2 and 3. My last inr results were 2.9 and i take 8mg of warfarin.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar n tn Well, the internal bleeding indicated by bruising means you need to go to a doctor to get some diagnostic testing to try to determine what is the source of your internal injury, if indeed you can think of no reason why you are now bruised along your back- from an external source. Hopefully they will take some radiological pictures of your back. You aren't taking any blood thinner medication (anti-coagulants) such as Coumadin, Warfarin, Plavix, or aspirin are you?
Avatar m tn I am concerned about possible drug interactions between the antibiotic azithromycin and the two heart medications warfarin and amiodarone. My relative has brief history of heart problems span one and a half years (though the underlying heart condition itself appears to be congenital). Rhythm problems resulted in CHF, hospitalization, and later diagnosis and heart surgery. Subsequent dysrhythmia and CHF has been prevented adequately with medication.
Avatar f tn An INR of 2.2 suggests you are not in an extreme danger of internal bleeding. But anyone can suffer internal bleeding from an impact. From what you describe it appears you have not damaged your self with the bump on the head. In your position, indeed my normal INR is 2.2 (2 to 3 being desired range due to suffering from atrial fibrillation), I not give it another thought. This is a subject where you get more readers with experience with Coumadin if posted on Heart Rhythm community.
Avatar n tn Sometimes there is bleeding at the cite of cath penetration, and with anti-platelet medication there can be excessive bleeding....also there is a small risk of a puncture with a cath. I didn't have any problems with bleeding, etc. but after reading thousands of posts on the subject many patients experience problems. I recently had a colonoscopy and was told to stop anti-platelet medication 6 days prior to procedure and there is a risk of excessive bleeding if there were polyps...none found.
Avatar n tn She has been on warfarin and monitors it regularly. She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
Avatar m tn I have got other forums also (Arthritis , Back and Neck Surgery, Back and Spine Surgery, Brain Tumor Forum, Headaches , Hip Surgery, Knee Surgery , Neurology/Neurosurgery, Rheumatoid Arthritis. Trigeminal Neuralgia), where you can post other related queries.
Avatar n tn I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
Avatar n tn 5 years my cardiologist suggests me to change to warfarin + asprin theraphy. I am scared of warfarin due to its side effects and risks. What are my risks if I continue with my currrent asprin+clopidogrel dual anticoagulant theraphy? Shall appreciate advice or sharing your experience with these drugs or necessity of changing over from one drug to another?.
290624 tn?1202328875 Hey, all, I have a question about warfarin. I have to take it for three months since I just had an ablation, and I am wondering if any of you women out there have experienced any heavy periods while being on it. I'm freaked out because I used to have heavy periods, although they got lighter after I started exercising regularly. I'm due around February 20th.
Avatar f tn After being on warfarin and plavix separatelyI had a TIA ,I am currently on both, and so far so good.Is this normal that my bleeding and bruising disappeared after combing the two drugs? i am happy but confused. Thanks Terry926 This discussion is related to <a href="/posts/Heart-Disease/Plavix-vs-Coumadin/show/254168">Plavix vs Coumadin</a>.
612551 tn?1450022175 Rosenfeld) said the new drug does not require any blood tests (protime) and does not have the bleeding problems of Warfarin. He said it is being evaluated by the US FDA. Sounds like good news to me, and AFig sufferer.
Avatar n tn To date there have been no reports of an important interaction in humans between warfarin and clopidogrel. Nonetheless, because warfarin increases the risk of bleeding, blood tests to measure the degree to which the blood is anti-coagulated or thinned (prothrombin time; INR) may be ordered to assess the degree of blood-thinning when warfarin and clopidogrel are used together.
Avatar n tn i was given metropol 25 mg twice a day and he wanted to put me on coumadin but i was scared coz i had internal ulcer bleeding once so i refused and i was taking metropol for about month and everything was fine.i just had another a fib that lasted same time.he put me on warfarin 5 mg and metoprol 25 mg twice a day.i have anxietys all the time that why i take paxil so i think my a fibs come from stress so is it necessary for me to take coumadin ,i am scared from it .any advice? thanks zoran 66!
Avatar f tn Now I have had progesterone for 14 days, and have had slight bleeding for three days. I have had no bleeding for over 25 years. I have recently increased daily dose of vitamin D to 75 mcgs. In last summer I had a polyp in my uterus. The polyp and the endometrium were taken off. Is the bleeding due to good effects of vitamin D, or is it due to poorly healed endometrium. What else? I have just had respiraotory infections, dyspnea, norovirus etc., and still have atrial fibrillation.
Avatar n tn - why a clot should form in my heart when the muscles were damaged six years back and considering that I am on aspirin+clopidogrel which too have anti clotting function. - warfarin may be slightly better as compared to aspirin+ clopidogrel, but in my case with no AF, does it makes sense getting into this risky business of conatantly monitoring of INR and fear of bleeding. - I have seen on net some other drugs in market which are equally good as warfarin with lower risk of bleeding.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, just a patient who has been on warfarin for the past eight years. I had a mechanical heart valve implanted in 2004. I'm medically literate, and I've tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert.
1069105 tn?1256700412 to have any fact-based opinion on the use of 1 mg of warfarin a day... and to that find out what here INR is when taking 1 mg a day, and can she control it. Some people for reasons of diet or other (not know to me) reasons have an INR that "jumps" around.
Avatar n tn My mother had gone through a sleeve gastrectomy operation 3 weeks ago. On the 22nd post-operative day, due to severe pain in the epigastric zone, her doctor ordered an abdominal CT. It turns out that portal vein and superior mesenteric vein are thrombosed. They put her on enoxaparin and wanted her to rest for 5 days until the next control. She refused to be put on heparin or warfarin because of her history of gastrointestinal bleeding and recent surgery.
315318 tn?1353251800 The danger is internal bleeding (abdomen, bowels, brain, etc) and there may not be any warning until an emergency condition and that could be fatal. I take a 80mg aspirin, and had a wisdom tooth pulled. It took awhile to control the bleeding, but told to bite down on a tea bag to help stop the bleeding. For an internal surgery, it is recommended to be off antiplatelets for 7 days. Unless your doctor can justify the 320 mg aspirin it may be prudent to reduce to 80 mg.
770426 tn?1235061489 They sent me home after I was safely hydrated and they had checked me for viruses/infections/bleeding and scaned my head and lungs for bleeding/PEs. They pumped me with morphine and asked me to follow up with my Neurologist. I really think Coumadin just wreaks havoc on some people's symptoms.
612551 tn?1450022175 I am on Warfarin and also was told to take 81 mg. asprin and that I could take fish oil. I drop off the asprin if I start to get bleeding problems like nosebleeds or bleeding when i brush my teeth. I too have been told to keep my INR in the 2-3 range. I have been at 1.9 and at 3.1 and I believe it's because of diet. I will stay in the proper range for a time then it will gradually go down or up. I do check my INR at home with a Phillips meter, so I check it once a week.
