t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Sometimes there is bleeding at the cite of cath penetration, and with anti-platelet medication there can be excessive bleeding....also there is a small risk of a puncture with a cath. I didn't have any problems with bleeding, etc. but after reading thousands of posts on the subject many patients experience problems.
I recently had a colonoscopy and was told to stop anti-platelet medication 6 days prior to procedure and there is a risk of excessive bleeding if there were polyps...none found.
She has been on warfarin and monitors it regularly. She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
I have been on Coumadin for 18 years due to Lupus Anticoagulant (Antiphospholipid Syndrome) and several DVTs. In 2005 had MI with occlusion of the LAD artery and had drug stent inserted and I am still on plavix. My doc has debated when to take me off the Plavix safely....what are the recent studies about this dilemma? thanks so much!
5 years my cardiologist suggests me to change to warfarin + asprin theraphy. I am scared of warfarin due to its side effects and risks.
What are my risks if I continue with my currrent asprin+clopidogrel dual anticoagulant theraphy?
Shall appreciate advice or sharing your experience with these drugs or necessity of changing over from one drug to another?.
After being on warfarin and plavix separatelyI had a TIA ,I am currently on both,and so far so good.Is this normal that my bleeding and bruising disappeared after combing the two drugs? i am happy but confused.

I was put on Warfarin immediately and have been on it ever since. Six weeks after starting the Warfarin, I had another TEE and the clots were 90% gone. They tried for seven and a half hours to do the ablation, but were not successful unfortunately. I will be on the Warfarin forever, but that is fine because you can’t eat leafy green veggies when you are on it and I despise green veggies so now I have the best excuse not to eat them.
A drastic change in diet can alter INR also, but in my own personal experience, it has usually been other meds that caused me to need to change my warfarin dosage and not my diet. An INR that is consistently out of range is dangerous. Don't worry about maintaining the same dose of warfarin. Worry about maintaining an INR that is consistently within range. Whatever dose of warfarin you have to take to stay in range is okay.
To date there have been no reports of an important interaction in humans between warfarin and clopidogrel. Nonetheless, because warfarin increases the risk of bleeding, blood tests to measure the degree to which the blood is anti-coagulated or thinned (prothrombin time; INR) may be ordered to assess the degree of blood-thinning when warfarin and clopidogrel are used together.
- why a clot should form in my heart when the muscles were damaged six years back and considering that I am on aspirin+clopidogrel which too have anti clotting function.
- warfarin may be slightly better as compared to aspirin+ clopidogrel, but in my case with no AF, does it makes sense getting into this risky business of conatantly monitoring of INR and fear of bleeding.
- I have seen on net some other drugs in market which are equally good as warfarin with lower risk of bleeding.
I'm not a doctor, just a patient who has been on warfarin for the past eight years. I had a mechanical heart valve implanted in 2004. I'm medically literate, and I've tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert.
My mother had gone through a sleeve gastrectomy operation 3 weeks ago. On the 22nd post-operative day, due to severe pain in the epigastric zone, her doctor ordered an abdominal CT. It turns out that portal vein and superior mesenteric vein are thrombosed. They put her on enoxaparin and wanted her to rest for 5 days until the next control. She refused to be put on heparin or warfarin because of her history of gastrointestinal bleeding and recent surgery.
The abnormal levels of INR may suggest that there is a problem with the bleeding and clotting mechanism. You must necessarily get the dose of Warfarin adjusted. High or low INR may lead to abnormal clotting or spontaneous bleeding. The medicine should keep the blood just thin enough to prevent clots. If the blood is too thin, you may bleed too easily. Severe headache while being on Warfarin therapy needs immediate medical attention.
You should contact your caregiver for advice regarding your medication as they would have your medical history, general health, etc. There is a noted drug interaction with Viagra and warfarin in certain patients. In patients who have pulmonary hypertension, there is an increased risk of bleeding when taking these medications together, etc..

I have been prescribed Coumadin and have been reading about this drug on the internet and every site I've visited says a medical alert bracelet is essential. Unfortunately, in the country in which I'm currently living, pharmacists seem to think it's completely unnescessary. Who's right?
The most common anticoagulation drug prescribed after heart valve surgery is warfarin (Coumadin). The newer blood thinners are apixaban and dabigatran, also known as Pradaxa and are expensive. The main concern is that specific antidotes for bleeding are available for warfarin but not yet developed for the new drugs.

Unknown. Warfarin metabolism normally occurs through the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) isoenzyme system, with excretion occurring in the urine as inactive metabolites. It is postulated that large doses of acetaminophen may "exhaust" the capability of the CYP450 system to metabolize warfarin. Additionally, DARVOCET-N 100 TABLETS may reduce functional factor VII.
Management: Monitor coagulation status and adjust the dosage of COUMADIN 4MG TABLETS (BLUE) accordingly.
