vytorin

1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar m tn My doctor perscribed Vytorin 10/20. This is where my health began to deteriorate. I developed both clay soft stool and chronic explosive diarrhea in the mornings (3-4X before leaving the house) and excessive tiredness. At first I didnt put the two together, I just thought it was something I was eating or drinking so I continuously changed my diet. Nothing helped. I went back to the doctor for a 1 yr follow up and mentioned the diarrhea.
Avatar f tn Diet only lowers your cholesterol by about 10%. So, it helps to not eat any extra cholestrol as your liver is what genetically controls the amount of receptors you are born with that break down cholesterol. So, try not eating anything with partially hydrogenated fat (trans fat), none. Also, have no egg yolks, no bacon, and so forth. Eat whole wheat cereal with fruit for breakfast, non fat milk or vanilla soy milk. lots of vegies and fruits etc. Very light on meats.
Avatar n tn Just make sure to get your blood tested annually to make sure there are no changes in your liver enzymes.
Avatar m tn Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar n tn I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
Avatar f tn Fatigue and lethargy are side effects of atenolol, however, I do not see any information suggesting that muscle weakness is a side effect of atenolol. I see that you also take Vytorin. It appears that symptoms of ALS,( Lou Gehrig's Disease) have been reported to the FDA in a higher than expected number of patients taking statins. ALS is a progressive motor neuron disorder with symptoms such as difficulty walking or standing, difficulty with fine motor skills and muscle paralysis.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
529224 tn?1400648219 Your sister is a vegetarian and not a vegan? which means she drinks milk and eats dairy products which have sources of saturated fats. Coconuts also contain saturated fats. Remar is correct, if very little fats are being consumed, then the only conclusion really is a hyperactive Liver. If you look up "familial hypercholesterolemia" this will explain the problem.
Avatar m tn Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
Avatar m tn , 165 lbs, eat well (no red meat or pork, little dairy, etc), and active. My chol is excellent all around (thanks to 10mg of vytorin). Total chol was 215 before, 135 after. My dad had a heart attack at 49, second at 73, he is now 82. I went for stress test and echo last week. Dr said stress was great but he saw a very small calcium deposit on lining of heart muscle, not near arteries. He was not overly concerned and said we just need to watch it during next year's test.
Avatar n tn Recent studies have found that statins like Lipitor acutally improve liver function in patients with liver disease and the incidence rate of liver failure is not turning out to be as high as originally thought. In fact, the FDA is considering dropping the liver failure side effect from the patient leaflet and consumer information.
Avatar f tn I have had pain in the right upper side by my ribs...I also have high liver enzymes (fatty liver) and I had a hida scan with cck...the results were ejection fraction was calculated at 14%. The gallbladder ejection period was 12 minutes and the gallbladder ejection rate was 1.2% per minute. Impression: Abnormally low gallbladder ejection fraction consistent with dysfunction/dyskinesia. My primary referred me to a surgeon. Is the diagnosis that I received consistent with surgery?
Avatar f tn Even things like antidepressants can (in some people) cause liver related side effects - i/e increased enzyme readings due to cell damage. Both the liver and spleen are in concert with many problems and they can both swell. Next would be to have a series of ANA (Anti-nuclear antibodies) run, and have ferritin/TIBC checked as well as ceruloplasmin - Those detect/rule out things like PBC PSC Wilson's and Hemachromatosis - All of which are able to cause a type of (non viral) Hepatitis.
Avatar m tn You are on one of the more powerful statins so you can ask your doctor about Vytorin which is simple Simvastatin and Zetia which works both in the liver and in the digestive tract. Simvastatin is usually better tolerated than Lipitor. It would help to know what your LDL and HDL levels are as well, we could possibly give you a better answer.
Avatar n tn There are all kinds of statins out there, as ed said, you have to find out which one you tolerate. I have been on them for many years as I was unable to lower my LDL with diet and exercise alone. They have worked well and I have had no side effects, but everyone is different. Most of these can be replaced by the generic Simvastatin. It's cheap and is the basis of many of the meds out there.
932338 tn?1247125679 Almost forgot, DO NOT EVER TAKE STATIN DRUGS like lipitor, vytorin, zocor, etc. They ruin your body, specifically your nervous system and brain. We need cholesterol which is what our brains and nervous systems are mostly made of, and those drugs lower cholesterol way too much, and cause alot of neurological symptoms, as well as prevent the liver from making CoQ10, and alot of other nutrients and enzymes we need to stay healthy.STAY AWAY FROM STATINS...lipitor caused me some major problems.
Avatar n tn My doctor told me the liver itself also produce cholesterol during the night. That's why the statins always to be taken before bed. He told me many high cholesterol is not caused by food putting into our mouth. It was the liver playing up. Exercise also can raise the HDL. If your HDL is higher than the LDL then you got no problem with Cholesterol. They ratio it out. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Avatar n tn Rather than medication aimed at the Liver directly, there are medications which inhibit absorption of fats through the intestine wall.. I take such a med along WITH my statin but they can certainly be used solo. The one I take is Ezetimibe, and I've been on it for 4 years with no problems. Here is some trial information.... http://www.nyrdtc.nhs.uk/docs/nde/NDE_60_a.
Avatar m tn I have some Lipitor in the cabinet and my doc is going to put me on Vytorin in 11 days. I was trying to avoid a new Rx of Simva since I have a cupboard full of comparable meds and will be starting Vytorin soon. I can't get a hold of my doc for a week. Just wondering if anyone knew of any bad reactions, a required layoff before switching, etc. Thank you very much.
