Common Questions and Answers about Vytorin and vascular disease

vytorin

Avatar m tn I used to have a high cholesterol and i have been taking Vytorin for the last 22 days and now my cholesterol is back to normal. However my SGOT increases to 56 and SGPT 100. Is Vytorin causes SGOT and SGPT to increase? Also, i have taken Anti hepatitis 2x. Does this have possibility to increase the SGOT and SGPT?
Avatar f tn I did talk to doctor last week and he told me to stop Vytorin right away and changed my cholesterol medicine to something else. What you suggest is quite scary as I had a friend who passed away due to Lou Gerig's disesase few years ago. Could taking Vytorin alone cause me to actually develop the disease or just to show the symptoms?
Avatar m tn He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
1846163 tn?1331048748 I am cures Ty on Vytorin and will be starting therapy soon, I have read that someone on a cholesterol lowering drug should not be on this drug. Can you tell me why?
Avatar n tn I have IBS with diarrhea. My family doctor gave me Vytorin and it caused ONE HORRIBLE bout with the diarrea. So, my question is: Should people with IBS not take Vytorin? If the answer is: No,they shouldn't,then why do you think this side effect is not listed on the pamphlet that comes with the drug.....or any where else?!
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
Avatar m tn The sensations of pins and tingling are generally due to peripheral neuropathies or vascular pathologies. Hence peripheral vascular pathologies have to be ruled out either by angiograms or by dopplar studies. Nerve conduction studies should be done. Vitamin B12 deficiency too should be looked into.

Avatar m tn Reading the many comments I came across one that stated lovastatin is an old medicine and is not used often. After recent cath my doctor changed my medication from vytorin ,have taken vytorin for 5 years, to lovastatin. I did ask for a cheaper medicine and lovastatin was what he came with. I have no problems or side effects . My question is lovastatin less effective then other of the same and if not why is it not used often. My engineering background comes out if I d not have proper data.
Avatar f tn Jaybay has summed it a vascular surgeon well. They treat vascular diseases. Vascular disease includes any condition that affects the circulatory system. Vascular disease ranges from diseases of your arteries, veins, and lymph vessels to blood disorders that affect circulation. Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) or Peripheral artery disease (PAD) and atherosclerosis examples of diseases of the blood vessels.
Avatar f tn I have been on Vytorin for a few years and my insurance company will not pay for it anymore. My doctor has switched me to Simvastatin (40mg) daily. My question is has anyone else made the switch and have they noticed any side-effects?
645800 tn?1466860955 Vytorin is a combination Ezetimibe and simvastatin and I'm currently taking simvastatin. My doctor is switching my medicine due to my leg cramps to see if that will help. All of the cholesterol "statin" medicines can cause muscle cramps. This one works in the gut to keep your body from getting the cholesterol into your body in the first place.
Avatar f tn You have many symptoms that would suggest you have an autoimmune disease. I would go see a Rheumatologist and have him check your eosinophils and other markers in your blood work. And find a Rhuemy that specializes in autoimmune! And go now!
Avatar m tn ◦no known vascular disease but at high risk because of age and/or risk factors ◦stable angina ◦MI over 1 year previously and not at high risk of vascular events (none of the following): bypass surgery, events involving multiple vascular beds, >1 ischemic event, diabetes, or high cholesterol ◦stroke (acute or remote) but no other reason for having a high risk of vascular events 2.
Avatar f tn Hello, One of the possibilities for your symptoms is Raynaud’s disease. The other cause can be vascular disease. Raynaud’s disease is a vascular disorder that affects blood flow to the extremities which include the fingers, toes, nose and ears when exposed to temperature changes or stress. This causes blueness and swelling of the skin. I feel that a consultation of a physician/ vascular surgeon will be the best. Other causes like peripheral vascular disease also has to be ruled out.
Avatar f tn I do have Raynauds, and vascular headaches - migraines and cluster headaches. I also have facial neuralgia - glossopharyngial, and I have unexplained bruising. My GP did a platelet count , as I do have a mild thrombocytopenia sometimes, but he said that the platelet count is borderline abnormal, and not low enough to justify the bruising. He speculated therefore that it may be a vascular related problem. This is why I asked about the RA and retinopathy link.
Avatar m tn First, why are you taking Lipitor and Vytorin? Those are both "statins" and should never be taken together. You should stop one of these immediately. If you have had elevated CPK's it could be due to the statin and it is questionable whether you should be on one at all. Stop both of those medications and see your doctor immediately--bring your pill bottles. You need to get your medications straight before considering any testing.
Avatar n tn My 57yr old mother has hep c, cirrhosis of the liver, and now vascular disease. Her platelet count is very low and we are told that there is nothing that the drs can do for her vascular disease. Her toes are purple and her pulse is very faint in her left foot.. My question is isn't there something that can be done for my mother?
Avatar f tn I had a triple bypass in April 05, and like you I have part of my leg in my chest now. I can't really say how long they will last, but I'm not doing to bad. My EF has improved quite a bit and I would probably be doing even better if I exercised (as everyone around me recommends). Prior to my surgery, my 'bad' cholesterol number was 169. I'm not sure what the rest of the numbers were. I started on Litptor but it made me itch - not too good with the blood thinners...
Avatar n tn 5 years after the last stent, and been off Plavix for over a year with no restinosis. I do exercise daily, take Vytorin, 81mg aspirin, and follow a healthy heart diet very carefully. So far, no problems with restenosis, but believe me, I think about it every day. I suspect your question would be answered with lots of questions from a doctor, such as what is your stress level, are you exercising, is there a diabetes factor, etc.
Avatar f tn does she have a vascular ring or not? If she has pre-existing tracheal narrowings due to her auto-immune disease, independent of a vascular ring, perhaps they feel that the narrowing caused by a ring is not significant and that repair would be unlikely to change her airway status. You said they said the MRI was OK....so not sure if the ring was a correct diagnosis or not. Fainting would not likely be associated with a vascular ring.
Avatar n tn Micro vascular brain disease is a collective term for vascular arteriolar pathology, metabolic endocrinal abnormalities and hemorrhagic abnormalities. Clinically one has cerebral ischemic events that have a tendency to recur and progress to multi infarct dementia. These ischemic events are associated with depression, parinsonian manifestations and essential hypertension..
Avatar m tn You might get checked to see if you have peripheral vascular disease. This disease of blood vessels where plaque formation happens and blocks off blood flow, causing a lack of oxygen to tissues can cause pain when walking. They can check on this with seeing if you have strong pulses in your legs and feet (pedal pulses), normal leg blood pressure and using a doppler to check on blood flow in your lower extremities.

Avatar n tn Diseases—such as diabetes, kidney disease, chronic alcoholism, multiple sclerosis, atherosclerosis, vascular disease, and neurologic disease—account for about 70 percent of ED cases. Between 35 and 50 percent of men with diabetes experience ED. Lifestyle choices that contribute to heart disease and vascular problems also raise the risk of erectile dysfunction. Smoking, being overweight, and avoiding exercise are possible causes of ED.
