Common Questions and Answers about Venlafaxine snri

effexor

Avatar m tn In general, the newer antidepressants (SSRI and SNRI) do not prolong QT interval so much. A possible exception is citalopram (and escitalopram). As far as I know, paroxetine and vortioxetine are fairly safe. How long is your QT interval?
Avatar m tn Sertraline (Zoloft) do not have this side effect, and Venlafaxine (Effexor, a SNRI) is also perhaps a good choice, as itdood said. Citalopram and Escitalopram are both prolonging the cardiac repolarization and they are usually not recommended with arrhythmias. But your question is hard to answer and I would recommend asking your doctor or pharmacist.
Avatar f tn adverse effects related to effexor(venlafaxine) are nausea, somnolence, sweating dizziness, anxiety, sexual disturbances and hypertension
20184324 tn?1499256445 s not usually as bad on the snri class, as they are intentionally stimulating, but we all react differently. It's more common with the ssris, but yeah, this is a side effect of the drug, assuming you haven't changed your eating patterns or exercise any.

Avatar n tn I'll take a shot at your #2. My wife suffered for many years from anxiety neurosis. She eventually overcame it with a lot of counseling and Paxil, an SSRI drug. She was happy as a clam, and doing great on a maintenance dose of Paxil until a routine mammogram revealed early breast cancer. Two surgeries and radiation, and she in great shape. Then we start Tamoxifen, an anti-cancer drug for breast cancer for the next 5 years.
Avatar f tn Hi, Effexor as I know is Venlafaxine, which is an anti depressant of SNRI origin. It is best that you speak with a psychiatrist for the same than a Neurologist. It has to be prescribed by a RMP and the prescription should be strictly followed as it as a lot of adverse effects.
Avatar f tn I think an ssri works mainly on seritonin, where an snri works on norepenephrine and serotonin. You may want to research this on the interenet.
Avatar m tn okay, So i just got my prescription for vanlafaxine, i'm nervous about taking it though. I've always been afraid to take new medicines, and this one is an SNRI as opposed to a SSRI which I was taking I believe. whats the difference? should I worry? and is it safe to take the vanlafaxine so soon after stopping the citalapram? i just took my last citalapram yesterday around this time. Anyways, i'm nervous, any advice?

Avatar f tn A study released in May 2010 by the Canadian Medical Association Journal suggests use of venlafaxine doubles the risk of miscarriage. Consequently, venlafaxine should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed. Prospective studies have not shown any statistically significant congenital malformations. There have, however, been some reports of self-limiting effects on newborn infants.

Avatar m tn d want to try some of the SSRI drugs like Paxil or an SNRI like Venlafaxine (Effexor) both which worked great for my wife. Just a cautionary note on Effexor. My wife switched from Paxil when it was discovered that it severely reduced the effectiveness Tamoxifen she was taking following breast cancer. She switched to Effexor which did not interact, but now that she's on it, getting off of it to go back to Paxil is very difficult.
Avatar f tn t use albuterol inhaler. Has anyone switched from Elavil(or any tricyclic) to an SNRI? Can you do this immediately? I mean stop one -start taking another the next day.
Avatar m tn t work for you after giving it a month to take effect try a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI) like Duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve). It acts a bit differently than the common selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) like Zoloft you are taking. So if Zoloft really don't work i would realy sugest the Cymbalta. Some info on Cymbalta Duloxetine (Cymbalta, Yentreve) is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor manufactured and marketed by Eli Lilly.
Avatar m tn I initially started Citalopram (SSRI) on May 30th and 31st, but then switched to I Cymbalta (SNRI) 30mg (because I heard that it can also help with nerve pain) on June 1 and stopped taking it 6 days later, because I was a little scared of the side effects that were happening to my body. I stopped cold turkey after the 6 days thinking that it shouldn't be a problem since I wasn't on it that long.
Avatar f tn It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
Avatar f tn in the case of Effexor (Venlafaxine) it is ok to start most SSRI meds (Including Paxil) without first tapering down on the Effexor. In fact many people take Effexor along with an SSRI med as part of their treatment. Effexor is different enough from Paxil that the odds of an adverse interaction is very uncommon. Now you would not be able to do the same with another SSRI like Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, ect.
