Common Questions and Answers about Varenicline off label use

chantix

Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn It is perfectly legal for a physician, once a med has been approved by the FDA, to use it for off-label purposes. What isn't legal is for the manufacturer to talk the physician into using it for off-label purposes. So this med might be the best thing for you, and it might be completely inappropriate depending on where the professional got the info from. So you're right to question things, but as I said, that doesn't mean this isn't a good med for you.
286124 tn?1214938528 Hello everyone: I have a question. I am taking Loratabs and I want off. I also smoke and have gotten a perscription for Chantix. It is supposed to help me stop smoking. It releases dopamine slowly in your body to help you fight your cravings. My question is this: can Chantix also help with coming off of these pills? any advice will be very appreciated. I will post again to tell my story. I'm at work and wanted to ask real quick! thanks again!
100019 tn?1335919717 For genotype 1 patients who cannot take interferon, the panel recommends sofosbuvir plus the HCV protease inhibitor simeprevir (Olysio), with or without ribavirin, again for 12 weeks. This off-label regimen has not been through full Phase 3 testing, but performed very well in the Phase 2 COSMOS trial.
Avatar f tn They all have reported feeling better daily - this off label approach is a God Send! Now I will finish out the 12 weeks - they will do the viral load test again at that time and then 12 weeks post treatment test again to declare me officially SVR!!! NO HORRIBLE INTERFERON OR RIBAVARIN THIS TIME FOR ME!!
1635208 tn?1300807160 Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.
Avatar f tn You are talking about Chantix (Varenicline tartrate) that should be available worldwide. If not, ask your doctor for other suggestion for quitting smoking.
Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
Avatar m tn I am using Pegasys 180mug q/wk as an off label use to treat Polycythemia Vera and it works well.I will have to take this med the rest of my life. I am aware of the short term side effects, but what about long term side effects? What can I expect years from now?
1113735 tn?1273174430 I believe the trials in the US involve mostly G1. Members of this form have experimented with it off-label (not for the prescribed purposes) with mixed results. It may improve the efficacy of interferon. don't know about liver stages or alt, ast. personally if i were to start treatment tomorrow i would add it.
996769 tn?1249681013 here's an example of a label that says do not use if you have --- thyroid disease Caution: Do not use BreastSuccess if you are pregnant, nursing, or have any of the following conditions: high blood pressure, heart disease, thyroid disease, glaucoma, diabetes, difficulty urinating due to prostate enlargement, or if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or for two (2
1148241 tn?1294052796 t as hard on the liver as tylenol (acetomenaphen or paracetamol), but still be careful to take no more than what the label says, and tell your doctor you're taking it. If it works, your doctor may direct you to take more than what's on the label, but again, follow instructions, dosage and timing carefully. Stay away from the "extra strength" formulas.
Avatar f tn The symptoms can sometimes be reduced by the use of antidepressants, antiandrogenic agents and anaesthetising gels. Psychotherapy with cognitive reframing of the arousal as a healthy response may also be used. More recently, the symptoms of the condition have also been linked with pudendal nerve entrapment. Regional nerve blocks and less common surgical intervention have demonstrated varying degrees of success in most cases.
Avatar n tn Follow the directions on your prescription label or the package label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take omeprazole exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often or for a longer period of time than prescribed by your doctor or stated on the package. Tell your doctor if you have taken nonprescription omeprazole for a longer period of time than stated on the package." As Selma advises, talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn Are there any off label drugs which can be useful for herpes? I have read therapy with Tagamet and zinc may have some benefit but I cant find any good information on that to show my doctor. Also what about globulin or interfereon injections ? Are there other immune modulating drugs or treatments that can boost my t-cells against this virus to keep it down? Is there a type of doctor who may know more about this than my PCP ? Have you ever encountered this before in a healthy person?
Avatar f tn Has anyone been approved for Olysio and Sovaldi off label and on Medicare? I failed traditional interferon/ribavirin, have fibrosis stage 2, and waiting for approval.
Avatar m tn off label use of a medication is something you and your provider need to discuss. it might not be paid for by your insurance if you are using it for an off label use - just a fyi.
Avatar f tn Grammy, I remember you saying your doc was prescribing off label for all his patients. Do you have any idea what reasons he is giving to insurance....as in key words or arguments he has to support the off label. Hope that makes sense. So tired and it's been a frustrating day. Again, so very happy for your success! Can you spell CURED?
Avatar n tn hi my partner has just had a heart attack hes been a smoker for a lot of years , he has gone cold turkey for the last 5 days but is now finding it a struggle , would it be ok for him to use electric cigs
Avatar m tn My guess is that they are having label issues. They might get an approval with a limited label, followed by a label modification in the near future. Just a guess though.
Avatar n tn Hi, first post but have done a lot of reading on this board. It seems really supportive! So, has anyone else used their pain meds to stop diarrhea? The reason I ask is because it has been a wonderful off label use in treating my chronic diarrhea. Background: I'm 31 with anklyosing spondylitis, some unknown inflammatory bowel problems, severe tmj(sometimes my teeth don't line up), my neck vertebrae are all damaged except c1. Until being put on remicade, I lived on the toilet.
683231 tn?1467323017 My Dr is asking my insurance for pre approval for Solvaldi Olysio off label. Originally she said a week or so but now says could be 3 or 4 weeks till we hear. I am wondering how long it has taken others from when their Dr asked for the off label usage before they were approved.
