Valtrex withdrawal symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Valtrex withdrawal symptoms

valtrex

Avatar f tn t think that your symptoms are consistent with new herpes, no. But I would strongly recommend that you stop taking Valtrex completely and wait three months to have another IgG for HSV 1 and 2. If you are negative at that time, I think you can believe that you aren't infected. Valtrex would probably not have stopped lesions if they were coming.
Avatar f tn I tolerate acyclovir much better. when I stopped the valtrex, I had a significant change in symptoms within a week. Odds are if this is also an issue for you, you'd notice things were better in a week or two. no change in symptoms, resume daily suppressive therapy with one of the 3 herpes antivirals and go from there.
Avatar f tn Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!
Avatar m tn I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.
Avatar m tn Is it possible to have constant prodrome symptoms? Since I've begun the Valtrex suppressant therapy 500mg per day I seem to be constantly tingling in my vaginal area, and it appears that I have a cold sore outbreak but inside the underside of my upper lip. I have never had that before :(. Could the stress of the diagnosis or start of the Valtrex have caused this? I thought the Valtrex was supposed to help alleviate outbreaks? (I just received positive results for HSV1 and 2 last month.
Avatar f tn OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
Avatar n tn I have been under a tremendous amount of stress recently and had just had a rare (for me) outbreak of cold sores for which I was taking the two dose course of Valtrex. (If I remember correctly, I had just begun the Valtrex prescription the day the condom slipped off.) I know I need to be tested, but am just trying to make sense of this. I had a pimple (which I removed) in the exact same spot as the genital HSV outbreak at the same time I had the cold sore.
Avatar n tn Cold symptoms are not a sign of herpes infection. The "flulike" symptoms we talk about are completely different from the common cold. We gals have more nooks and crannies in our genital mucosa than the boys do which is why we are more prone to infection - more surface area that can be infected. The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com goes into all the other info for you.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
Avatar f tn I have a Western Blot positive for HSV2, have never had any symptoms. My partner has not been tested and I'm unsure I can convince him to get tested. We continue to have unprotected sex. I am now taking Valtrex daily. The questions I had posted before are copied and pasted here: Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status.
Avatar n tn I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
Avatar n tn Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?
Avatar n tn The visual diagnosis by a knowledgeable provider is usually valid and most aspects of your initial symptoms are typical, as is the improvement with Valtrex treatment. Some asepcts are not typical, especially the apparent delay of symptoms until a little more than 3 weeks after exposure. It can take that long, but the incubation period usually is 3-10 days. Also, it is true that your HSV-2 blood test results are on the low side -- technically positive but borderline.
Avatar n tn can be the beginning of an outbreak or actually be the outbreak. so if i have any of those symptoms again to start taking 2 valtrex a day and it will go away. Any new news about possible vaccines or anything of that nature?
Avatar m tn From time to time I try stopping the Valtrex and the virus seems to come back in the form of swollen, painful gums. Each time I stop Valtrex, it seems to take longer for the virus to reappear but it always reappears in the form of swollen and painful gums. I had this same symptom (although much more severe) when I initially contracted the infection together with fever and lesions on the penis and testicles and one strange lesion on my lower stomach.
Avatar f tn I may start a new thread ( and thus pay for your time ) regarding valtrex usage (ie dosage 500 vs 1000 , or 500 usually but 1000 for a few days if symptoms occur). I'll post that later.
Avatar f tn I would really appreciate any comments. I got oral HSV 1 from kissing and the burning, redness, swelling symptoms on my tongue & lips have continued for over 2 months despite being on Valtrex (Valaciclovir) continuously. Has anyone else had this experience? I can only think that as I have Cystic Fibrosis and my immune system is busy with other infections that it can't push the HSV into its latent state???
Avatar n tn my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.
Avatar n tn Hello. I had sex (twice) with a person who later told me that they had Herpes. The person said that they were on supressive treatment and had not had an outbreak in over a year. Within a day or two I started to feel a tingle on the end of my penis an a slight burning in the urethra. I took some Valtrex from her and three days later I was examined by a Urologist. The Dr. didn't think I had Herpes but prescribed 1000mg of Valtrex 2 day for 10 days.
Avatar m tn m a gay male and messed up/ had an unprotected dry humping incident about 3 nights ago. Now my perianal skin has been burning/hot feeling and I have had some flu like symptoms.. No rash or blisters but does this sounds like an upcoming herpes infection? I am on Prep so HIV isn't too much of a concern esp since there wasn't penetration... Would an urgent care script me some valtrex if I voice my concern ? Awkward visit...
Avatar m tn s had if for 10 yrs now, and takes daily Valtrex, at my request). Before we started dating, I was tested negative for HSV (1 and 2). Four days after vaginal intercourse (with a condom, and not during an outbreak) I noticed what appeared to be a small pimple on the ring of my anus. My girlfriend inspected it and said it was very probably a pimple and not a blister (she said it was half the size of her blisters, and had a white head, plus it doesn't hurt).
Avatar m tn ve seen dermatologists, neurologist, and an STD specialist and no one seems to know what I have. About 1 month prior to the testing I took 3 days of Valtrex just to see if it would help the pain. It did and didn't help, which confused me. I wonder if that much Valtrex would affect the test? Terri Warren doesn't believe so and she doesn't believe I have herpes. All I know I was perfectly fine until I had that brief, protected encounter. Any one have these symptoms?
Avatar f tn Thanks for the clarifications; it helps. Your doctor obviously thought your oral herpes was a recurrent outbreak (the treatment was the recommended one for a recurrence, but not for initial herpes). I agree, despite the fact that this is your first recognized outbreak. As I said in my original reply, this isn't a rare circumstance at all. I am confident your oral herpes is chronic, not acquired from your current partner.
127596 tn?1210922622 Instead I found an empty bottle of Valtrex, prescribed to her. Needless to say, there was no way in hell I was going to use any toothbrush in there. Rather than blowing up about it, I came home and did some research. But I was sad to find that Valtrex is only prescribed for Simplex I, Simplex II and Zosters. So I asked her about it (via instant message - is that bad?). She said she gets cold sores sometimes, and the Valtrex gets rid of them quickly.
Avatar n tn On and off, I had to avoid sex with him because of the yeast infections. A week and a half ago, I was treated for a yeast infection. I felt that the symptoms were gone, but the doctor said she could still see that I had it, and gave me a prescription. Five days passed, and I had no symptoms. I thought it would alright to have sex. My boyfriend and I had sex, and things felt fine. Ten minutes passed afterwards, that I felt alright.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have experience with symptoms (leg pain, bad crotch burn, achy muscles) that come and go during the day, everyday for months without a break? I was recently diagnosed, but only becausec the doctor didn't know what else to call it. I'm getting suspicious because the 10 day Valtrex didn't help. Is there a way to test if I have a drug resistant strain?
Avatar n tn Since my initial outbreak of 2 ulcers (not blisters, not painful) in December, I have had these symptoms - burning and constant irritation of vagina, lower back pain, pain in inner thighs, weight loss, constipation, burning around anal area. Is it common to have lingering symptoms after an initial outbreak? I took Valtrex at initial infection and the ulcers went away in about 6 days. Also, does low IGG = mild infection?
