Valtrex is strictly for the person who has herpes. There is no drug available as a preventative for someone who's herpes negative.

Her risk of transmitting the virus to her baby during delivery is very small. No obvious lesions a tthe time of delivery and the risk is less than 1%. If she'd have an obvious lesion at the time of delivery then a c section will be performed.

I started this outbreak last weekend, I got diagnosed with Herpes (by my Gyn.) on tuesday and I did the 3 day Valtrex. now all those sores I have are almost gone and I find this NEW sore, up just above my pubic hair area (had no idea you could get them there either)
I am confused... why isn't themedicine working? should I go get more?

However, we have not had sex but we think we are reaching the point in our relationgship where we need/ want to. Not having sex has been had for both of us. I am on Valtrex I take it everyday and I just don;t have sex. Beside the medication and a condom what else can we do to reduce the risk of her getting it? We tried to talk to some one before and they were not helpful. In fact we were looked at like a couple of stupid teenagers. We are both almost 30 yrs. old.
How did you find out you had herpes? By blood test? If you get a copy of your exact results, and post them here, I can help sort that out. Your boyfriend also needs to get tested, and he needs a type specific IgG herpes blood test.
If you do have herpes, you can still get pregnant. If all you do is avoid sex during an outbreak, your partner has a 4% chance of getting it per year.

If you are hsv2+ and your male partner isn't - if you just avoid sex whenever you have anything going on genitally, his risk is 4%/year of contracting hsv2 from you.
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.

my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.
How would the Valtrex slow down antibody production? Would it suppress the virus to the nerve ganglia before the body can start to develop an immunity response.
Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status. If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I got your book recently and will I'm sure get a lot of information (and much needed strategies for getting my head around this) from the book. Two final questions for you:

Can taking Herpes medication, such as Valtrex, create a later false positive test for the STD?
OK. So its been nearly 2 months since I've been diagnosed with this inconvenience. Since I never had a "noticeable outbreak", every little itch or tingling that I get spooks me (The reason why I say that is because the time I had sex with my ex, I did have some tingling and 5 days later he had small blisters on his penis, so I know he contracted it from me).
Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks. How long can this crazy virus last? Does it subside or run it's course within 6 months? I thought I read this somewhere. Sorry for the multiple questions- this is just so frustrating... I want relief. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!!!
