You cut that risk in half if she uses Valtrex daily, or if you two decide to use condoms. If she is already using the Valtrex daily, you are getting a protective effect from that, so your risk is down around 2% PER YEAR. That's not with each episode of sex, it's during your sexual relationship over a year. If you throw both of these methods into the mix, your risk, as you can imagine, is extremely low.
Oral sex is not really something to be concerned about.
Hi...I've had genital herpes for a little over 10 years now. I was first diagnosed (via culture swab) with type 1 and just recently had blood work and it showed positive for type 2 but negative for type 1...so I'm not too sure which type I have.
Up until about 6 months ago, I had never had another OB since my initial OB (which by the way I only really found out because I had an obgyn appt during the same week).
there are many uses for certain meds i take pills for parkinson's but i don't have that i have tardive dyskinesia :)
I know someone who has had the virus for 10 years. Only uses Valtrex with an outbreak. Does not use condoms with his partner and she has been HSV free for 7 years they have been together.

so i was tested on 2/19 hsv 2 igg and got a result of 1.52, doc gave me valtrex and i took it for 2 weeks and was rechecked at quest lab and results was 4.82, i stopped the meds and was recently rechecked again and went back to labcorp on 4/19 and got a lower result of 1.39.
my question is could this still be a false positive?
if i am truley positive wouldnt my results stay high?
actually labcorp uses the captia test even though they do still list the herpeselect on some of their websites. they stopped using herpeselect a few years ago when quest bought herpeselect.

I think you need to come clean with him!! As much as he can transmit HSV2 to you, you could transmit HSV1 to him!! You are less likely to transmit the infection to him since the shedding rate is lower but at the same time, he is more opt to shedding 2 to you if he isn't on Valtrex so you both need to sit down and be honest!! Stay protected, get on Valtrex and have fun!!!
I also get white, rough patches on my scrotum and I almost always get conjunctivitis. I have Ig H 6.34 for HSV-1 according to my blood work. I have been given 500mg/valtrex a day to take.
Question: Does this sound like herpes even though I don't outward get cold sores? Why do I always get conjunctivitis? Is the conjunctivitis viral or bacterial? I often feel like the valtrex does nothing, and the eye drops they give for conjunctivitis do nothing.

s just my immune system out of wack. If I get a cold sore and take Valtrex my stool become less painful. Right now, I have bloody skin, skinny stools and pain! when I go to the bathroom, this is nothing new for me. It's been 6 years! and I cry a lot because sometime I will just go to the bathroom and it will be bloody, skin like stuff. A usually diarreah. My doc says it's just UC and she doesn't believe it would be Herpes ...
5 (some were even telling me 3.0) turn out to be false positives. one problem is that no one uses conformation testing if there are no present symptoms (if no lesions present to do culture or pcr)-maybe that is y its spreading so fast (w no symptoms) and its not a routune std check up unless requested.
unfortunately, there is no sure-fire way to prevent him from getting it, but there are measures you can take that will greatly reduce the chance of him getting it. if he uses a condom every time you're intimate, that will cut the risk roughly in half. if you get on a suppressive medication therapy (such as taking valtrex daily), that will further reduce the chances. and of course, you should never have sex when if you have sores or blisters.
So now that i found out that i have hsv-1 do i need to take valtrex everyday for the rest of my life if i dont want to get my partner infected?
My doctor told me to stop taking Valtrex for a while to let my liver regenerate. While I think Valtrex is an excellent drug for treating HSV 2, I think users should take into consideration that long term use can cause some mild to moderate damage to the liver as my tests have proven. Also, anyone using Valtrex should not drink ANY alcohol while on it because it will exacerbate the problem with your liver. I'm hoping in a few weeks my liver tests go back to normal.
I have not had any outbreaks at all, I occasionally have burning and itching, but beyond that nothing else. I have been on supressive therapy w/ Valtrex since the end of may. I have had pain on lower right abdomen, under my ribcage it feels, and pain on my right lower back. Is this a symptom of Herpes, or can this be a reaction to the Valtrex?
I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.
What is the possibility of being immune to Valtrex? Is there a possibility that after taking Valtrex daily that in a couple years it may no longer be effective?
my partner who i met has been on Valtrex for a couple of years and the pass year we had unprotected sex. I went and got tested and my blood work came back negative. She is ok with the results and angry that she allowed me to convince her and not using condoms. I just can't explained why we did it without condoms only that I love her and we are getting marry.
How would the Valtrex slow down antibody production? Would it suppress the virus to the nerve ganglia before the body can start to develop an immunity response.
Thanks. I have started daily Valtrex to reduce the risk of transmission to him. After much discussion, he has agreed, reluctantly, to find out his status. If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I got your book recently and will I'm sure get a lot of information (and much needed strategies for getting my head around this) from the book. Two final questions for you:
